I'm really not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand I want to support any shmup that makes it out of Japan, but on the other the most enjoyable part of Otomedius was getting the 3 fondling achievements. So is it worth the $60? Hard to say,

well i am torn....should i pick this up to support the release of more of our beloved niche here in the states? if in doing so will i incourage these assholes to slap absurd prices on further releases? i thought the price on DS was very reasonable..i ll buy the LE and normal ver of that(if there is a normal ver). its something i have a real problem with..they got their cash out of this game in japan so maybe they should release it alittle cheaper so joe blow would b more apt to take a chance on it, but nooooo GREED wins out again...and they piss and moan about not being supported....

Now this is interesting (and makes sense, considering the price). I dunno if I'll pick it up at full price though, I like Otomedius but not that much. If it sells as well as the first game, I'll just wait for the Platinum Collection release. The backgrounds seem to look a bit better.

Also, looks like one of the new DLC characters is Castlevania-themed, so there's probably going to be a DLC music pack containing remixed Castlevania tracks. Wonder what her unique weapons and Burst Attacks will look like.

Oh wow this is going to be a whole new game altogether? What a tweest, and if the US release works on asian systems as well I might pick it up at launch cause I really want this to improve on the first game's flaws. I wonder if (gasp) the US and JPN versions will be released at the same time too?

I wonder if an AC release is in the works to hit earlier, those original dedicabs for this game could use an update

I won't buy it because I've put too many hours into the first game. It wasn't even all that good, I pretty much only played it to personalize my own character for online co-op. The rest of it I didn't like at all. I thought the touchscreen gimmick was completely unnecessary, and I don't know why they released the stick at such a high price. On top of that, it was full Sanwa as well. Ugh.

Well whatever. I guess it's no surprise that this is getting a sequel.

Tried going to two different Gamestops to reserve the US release, neither had it listed. Either I got two dumb employees or the listing has been pulled? I spelled it out and saw them searching for it.

Agreed on both.

For anyone who can read the article, does it specify if this a new game altogether, or DLC/a re-release of the first game?

It's definitely a new game.

I enjoyed the first one despite having to use the non DLC charas to max the achivements. If they take arcade and gorgeous and mash them together minus Burst spam (make it an item pick up instead of a rechargeable part of the weapon bar) they could have something really fun.

Will probably grab it as part of my collection, but I find it weird Konami would chance this game outside Japan let alone what seems like a simultaneous release. Setting the bar at 60 is a mistake for the US if they are gambling on casual interest, but since its a simultaneous release its probably to make it seem like they aren't intentionally gouging their jp customers by offering the game bargain bin range outside their region.

I can't find the listing for this on Gamestop or Amazon. I guess it just hasn't been officially announced to retailers yet?

Quoted text tends to mask links, so to be sure, that entire post is a link.

Perhaps that link is a hoax? Try going to the gamestop website and searching for that exact title. I've tried it over and over in every spelling variation I can think of, including exactly what that link seems to point to. No luck. It doesn't seem to be actually listed. I'm not freaking out about it, it's just odd.

I'm not sure it can be pre-ordered online at GameStop yet - though the link in StarCreator's quote post did take me to Otomedius site at GS to do just that. However, for me, it was just a matter of a walk-in visit to the GS I frequent and reserve it for $5.

The new characters I've almost got nailed down, in the famitsu article, when you go into the gallery, the first two are the first 2 Busou Shinki figures released. The third is obviously Anoa, We know who she is (and hopefully by this point, how to play Gradius), and the 4th is Kokoro Belmont, who is obviously based on a specific Bloodline(S! I made a castlevania funny) from a certian series.

The 4th new chick with the large rack and pink all over her I have no idea on. Anyone want to fill in the blanks?

Although from the comments in this thread, I am clearly the minority here. I think Otomedius is actually one of the best games Konami has turned out in the past 5 years or so, is quite fun, and I love my all Sanwa LE stick. Each to their own I guess.

Konami just announced this at E3, and IGN is reporting it as an XBLA game. Strange.

Konami's press release said it had multiplayer via XBLA, obviously they must have meant XBL.

Yeah Konami fucked the press-release up.
Odd that the US is getting the sequel and not the original.

Yeah, I would assume so. If they put it on XBLA for the rest of the world besides Japan, people over there would just buy a US point card and get the game much cheaper than the retail disc. Probably a screw up on the press release. Plus Gamestop has never put up a pre-order for anything thats eventually become an XBLA game.

It is very odd they're releasing the sequel first over here. It'd be nice if the original came bundled with it (and maybe justify the full retail price tag), but I'm not holding my breath.

Anime trailer with no gameplay whatsoever and bit of censorship...

And yes it's retail release.

Man, I hope that the censorhip was just in the trailer, would be bad if they get too woried about the girls in the game and replace all female characters with male characters like the ones on Cho aniki...

I am fully of the opinion that Cho aniki's content is far more disturbing than Anything Otomedius has to offer, except maybe Diol Twee's quick D-burst overlay. If the Censorship makes it here I still won't care as I have a feeling Konami will region lock this just to piss me off (as I no longer own a US360). God knows if original mode is even in this anyway, there's only 3 screen shots up and they are the most generic screenshots of a gradius game that has ever existed, they all show power up phases. Well done Konami.

I have a feeling Konami was censoring it because its not yet rated. There was no ERSB rating at the beginning of the trailer (as per industry standard) and they are "only 25% done with the game" if Famitsu is to be believed, so we're a long way off.

Also, the entire internet is wrong - there are 11 characters in this game - the 7 other than Emon 5 from Otomedius/Gorgeous, and the 4 we saw last week on Famitsu. They are all shown in the trailer.

Please for the love of god Konami, don't cut Versus Mission, its seriously one of the best things you've ever done.

Gamestop had it listed for a early September release and when they've leaked dates early before they're usually very close to, if not on the exact release.

And? that's still 4 months away (counting the rest of June and the parts of September before the 8th).

Like everyone else this game will bomb hard in the US. While Deathsmiles is not my cup of tea I would personally tell people to get that instead when it gets release in the US.

It's pretty much the same as the E3 video, but without the silly censorship. It's up on YouTube also :

The two new characters are related to Castlevania and Getsufuu Maden. I don't think the second game was released in English.

I can't find pics of the new characters, but they're in the trailer anyway.

This thread is pretty confusing. Is this much right: there is a sequel and it's being released in the states? All sounds good. It was a bit slow, but I did like the original. I even got the LE stick when it came out.
