Pretty fun game I must say. The rotating mechanic is done pretty well. I found myself often rotating at some waves to see if there was a way to make it easier on me. Sometimes one direction was the right way to rotate and sometimes not. I can't complain about the analog control. Lining up tons of bullets and enemies with rotation and lasering them is satisfying. I got to wave 59 or so in infinite mode, shit gets pretty intense. I liked the powerups in infinite mode. Yeah, there's a percentage lifebar but that did not detract from my enjoyment. When killing enemies with the reflect power, it seemed to net its own bonus. Don't fully get how to score well, but Overdrive seems to make enemies shoot more bullets. I didn't notice where my overdrive gauge was... playing on a standard def TV I found it difficult to read the how to play pictures. I'll have to inspect that more I guess.

I didn't quite get the network update thing, is my score viewable by those who can network update then? Or do I need gold to upload my score?

For $3 this is definitely worth it, graphics are pleasing to the eyes. One thing I noticed though is that sometimes if I couldn't see the bullets well I would rotate to get them in front of a darker part of the background. Fairly minor as it didn't happen too often, but I think once I play it more I'll have more intuition about that.

Just a heads up, this game doesn't work with anything but the 360 analogue stick. So basically, I won't be buying it.

What is the secret of the massive triangles? They give me like 1000x extra multiplier. This has to be how akr dimahoo get the holy-fuck short range score he has.

I must have more of them

I was a bit disappointed by this. It IS a cool little game - the revolve gimmick is an excellent idea and is implemented really well - but there just isn't a whole lot of actual game to sink your teeth into. There's either the one-level score attack or the infinite waves survival challenge. Maybe I was expecting too much from an Indie release.

It's easily the nicest looking XBLI game I've seen though, very easy on the eye, but I do quite often find it difficult to distinguish bullets from the background when there's a lot going on. In fact, at one point there were dark red bullets against a dark red background :?

Also, it doesn't really have the kind of precision gameplay I look for in an STG. It is very forgiving where damage is concerned (either a life bar or just a penalty to your score) which makes up for things, but still... And yeah, although it's not a deal breaker for me, I've no idea why there's no d-pad support.

I do think it's a pretty fun game with some great ideas behind it, but it kind of feels more like an experiment to me. I'd like to see the revolve/rotation mechanic taken further in a full fledged release.

I like that short mode and infiinte mode have fairly different feels. The power-ups in infinite mode help distinguish it a lot from the super-quick short mode. You get taken through a different environments too.

I really wish the bullets stood out more--that's my only really complaint with the game. I'm hoping the consider doing an update and putting a double band of dark and light colors around the bullets to help them pop out on all backgrounds.
I found myself actually rotating a lot of times just to put the bullets on a background where I could see them better.

Really enjoy the score boost of trying to line up tons of bullets and zap them with my laser. As Aquas said, it's very satisfying once you get the hang of seeing the patterns, rotating, then blasting the bullets.
The in-game trophy system is nice too, good motivations. For being 'just a score attack game' I think it's very satisfying, and interesting. I'm personally more interested in more than just shapes, but the crazy pace combined with the spin mechanic and laser attack help add an extra interesting layer to it.

I happened to play this last night without even hearing about it prior, nice surprise, the game is really good, really good pacing, analog controls are superbly done.

Looks awesome, I'll give it a shot. How substantial is it? ie. How many bosses/levels? I like the idea and I wanna see it explored but for $3 I don't see there being much to it.

I'm not great--I'm 36th or so in Short Mode online, but from what I've seen there's only one geometric-style boss, but he has 4-5 possible versions, based on your rank when you reach him.

I'm really digging the boss though, because he forces interesting uses of the rotation, in order to keep from getting hit and keep your rank high.
There are a lot of neat looking areas, and similar to Ray Crisis/Leave Home/others, the better you do (better rank?) the more and stronger and varied enemies come out. There are 2 modes, infinite and short, and one has power ups, while short mode does not, but you can't die (it's like a timed score attack).

Personally I mostly like 2D art and creepy monsters to fight, but the pace of this game, and interesting scoring is keeping me coming back.

Regarding scoring:
Does anyone know how points are best gained in it? Matthew Doucette asked me, here's all I could figure out, but I'm definitely no expert at the game.

--My understanding of scoring so far in Revolver 360--
Shooting chains of guys gets you tetrahedrons that are point bonuses. Those are good.
Then shooting your super laser into bullets is good, but maybe not amazing (I can't get tell if you get points for shooting the bullets).
What I've found is great is the 'Overdrive' mode. You hold the Y button for that. The red ring around your ship has to be complete. When you shoot this, you turn all bullets into point things! So you get a ton.

The cool way you charge it is with your super laser. You vaporize bullets with your super laser, then charge your Overdrive mode.

So it goes, wait till tons of bullets are on screen, rotate to line them up, vaporize them with your super laser (which charges your hyper mode). Then when it's full, wait till bullets are all over the screen, and go into Overdrive mode for a moment, and turn them all into points.

Bullets into points has been done plenty before, but it works well here and I like the 2-layer system in addition to the strategic rotation. It's satisfying and keeps things feeling fresh as you play.

There may be more to the scoring, but that's what I think is going on at the moment.

This.

Game is a lot of fun, looks and sounds great, but there are far too many moments where the bullets disappear over the background making the game completely unplayable.

I found this game last night while browsing the recent indie releases - fantastic, didn't want to go to bed. Innovation, nice graphics and a storming soundtrack for not a lot of money! I'm going to make a video of infinite mode this evening so more people can see what it's like.

I also found 'Maids With Balloons', which is my pick for the worst game of the decade, a very late/early but deserving entry. I put a video of it on Youtube, should show up in the search, video owner 'PSUkbit'. There was also a Santa chainsaw game, which is vaguely like Robotron without a gun - it was somehow strangely enjoyable.

There may be more to the scoring, but that's what I think is going on at the moment.
I don't know about this analysis of the scoring system.

(To me)It appears that the gems are used to account for the multiplier. So destroying a bunch of enemies with the normal shot generates gems which adds to the multiplier (up to x16). The multiplier is taken into effect when destroying enemies with the laser, it decreases incrementally once you destroy several enemies on screen. The ideal thing to do is cancel a bunch of bullets while destroying enemies, so that your multiplier does not decrease.

Overdriver; more or less, is your bomb. It's saved me in a few instances. Doesn't seem to affect the multiplier too much if at all.

No miss and extermination bonuses (according to the achievements there are more than these two in infinite) add to your multiplier. I'm not sure how much, but usually when I got both a no miss and extermination bonus my multiplier was maxed out at the beginning of the next wave.

I've only played infinite mode for about a hour, and my best is only 14 million @ wave 32. I'll probably be playing this for a while, as it's a breath of fresh air compared to what I have been playing lately.

As far as I can interpret the how-to-play screen and observe things (this applies only to infinite range, short range has a different system):

The multiplier only applies to kills with the laser, every kill with it reduces your multiplier (by 1 I think) so basically you're cashing out with it. Regular shot kills increase your multiplier, as do the multiplier items that you get out of enemies and bullets. The multiplier decreases over time, the speed depends on the combined value of all bonuses you have earned so far in this game (see the bonus counter below the multiplier, that's not just the number of them I believe).

Using overdrive does not seem to do damage to enemies but converts all bullets into multiplier items and gives you pretty much instant laser recharge while the outer red circle around your ship is ticking down so spam lasers like no tomorrow when you overdrive against a boss.

I've found these bonuses so far:
No Miss: Don't get hit during the entire wave.
5 Waves No Miss: Get No Miss 5 times in a row.
Stealth: Not sure but it seems to require No Miss and shows for me in waves where I kill either no enemies at all or just a boss.
Quick Destruction: Kill a boss VERY fast. I don't think this can be done without letting a Shot or Laser powerup stay around in the wave before the boss and then using it on him, even double overdrive won't kill him fast enough.
Extermination: Kill all enemies in the wave.

I have no idea if these count as bonuses, they don't include the word Bonus and don't have an effect on the multiplier but the trophy might require them:
Overdriver: Use overdrive twice in a row, can be done by grabbing an Overdrive powerup after activating the move and then immediately triggering it again after the first one expires.
Nice Recovery: Go from very low health to a moderate amount, I noticed that I got it for going from 15 to 45 health from the 3 Life powerups dropped by a boss.

Overall it looks like I have 7/10 of the bonuses in the trophy progress but I might have missed some.

The waves seem to have a fixed set for every 10 wave bracket but get shuffled in every game.

So, an update patch just came out for the game, which lets you use the D-pad and adjust background brightness (among other things). Game just got better.
