Well I got the letter yesterday - they clocked me at 53 in a 30 (which I thought was a 40) - so I will be definitely going to court and will probably get banned and/or 6 points on my license, and a large fine.DEL wrote:I am paying a £60 fine for 44 in a 30 and getting 3 points - today. 53 in a 30 should not be an issue. Ban speed is over 100. You might just get the same as me, or maybe 6pts.

AFAIK ban is double the speed limit, so 60 in a 30 and 80 in a 40 ect. unless your really lucky and they are lenient they will issue you with the standard nip or court summons if its above the threshhold.
Like I said mate, go onto pepipoo.com you dont have anything to lose, the one advice i will give you is when you get the summons make sure you tick the box to appear in court and dont just send the form off suggesting you will skip court and just take what they give you.
Go there admit your mistake apologise and feed them a sob story while re-assuring them it wont happen again, you will walk away with a less harsh punishment. Like I said I managed to get 4 points and a 60 fine + 30 court costs doing this while a friend of mine got 6 points and a near £300 pound fine exc court costs for not bothering to turn up to court.
Good luck though mate chin up and all that, let us know which way you tackle it.

just to reiterate I was clocked at 76mph in a 40mph zone (just checked originally thought it was 30mph zone) so I was near double the speed limit, also im not going to lie to you I was having alot of trouble sleeping after I got the summons some nights I couldnt sleep because i was worried about getting my licence taken away from me.
Dont let it get to you mate it took them a whole year to sort out my case and after the first month or two I had forgotton about it, its the waiting at first that really stressed me out but that was because i was actually desperate for the overtime at work and the only way for me to get that would have been if I had a licence having that basic privelege taken away from me really put a downer on me.
I really do not like traffic police such an easy way to make revenue, my brother was clocked doing 34 in a 30 last week and yep hes got the nip already, lazy policing imo when there is so much anti social behaviour going on and they instead target the tax paying public who maybe doing 3-4 mph over the speed limit.

I would skip the sob story, myself; I don't get into many brushes with traffic enforcement but when I sit there and be honest I have done well. Of course I look young enough to be a new driver, too, which helps I guess.
Re: Fuck this month. Seriously. Straight in the eye.
This is the thing - it's NOTHING to do with safety (they call them 'safety cameras' in the uk now). If it was to do with safety they would not put them on a road with no pavement, no houses opening onto it, which was a 40 zone, that's actually perfectly safe for more.Khan wrote:I really do not like traffic police such an easy way to make revenue, my brother was clocked doing 34 in a 30 last week and yep hes got the nip already, lazy policing imo when there is so much anti social behaviour going on and they instead target the tax paying public who maybe doing 3-4 mph over the speed limit.
If they gave a shit about safety they'd be putting them outside schools which they never do, or policing residential roads which they never do - the kids around here use our road as a drag strip, but they're less likely to pay up so they go for the soft targets.

You're not a soft target, get a sawn off, be a man.

Yeah, I went there - they think a fine plus 6 points, or a short ban.Khan wrote:Like I said mate, go onto pepipoo.com you dont have anything to lose, the one advice i will give you is when you get the summons make sure you tick the box to appear in court and dont just send the form off suggesting you will skip court and just take what they give you.
It feels like the police/courts just pick on normal drivers because they're so pointlessly shit at stopping real criminals, too much like hard work. I'd love to know why they don't have a go at the local kids who drive so fast up our narrow residential street that it's normal to hear them sliding to a stop at the t-junction at one end, and the corner at the other.

Highwaymen used to shoot arrows into your shit and take your money off your corpse. That technique died when banks became prevalent, so the modern highwayman just milks the corpse slowly while it still thinks it isn't dead.

Cops have never helped anyone, ever. What services the thugs do provide that are useful, used to be done by lynch mobs.
Only one thing you can do about it: don't drive. Take public transportation. I'm sure this is a viable option for everyone everywhere while at the same time it's extremely impressive to the lady folk. Win win WIN

Organized crime: fear of retribution
Druggies: lazy to find and unwilling to risk danger
The everyday driver: a simple and relatively safe way to "serve the law"
Honestly, I'd rather cops just sit around doing nothing or patrol the streets looking for real crimes than wasting time catching people speeding who are otherwise harming nobody. If we can't afford to pay them to just do that (since the number of citations would be dramatically reduced), then maybe that's a good hint we need less cops.

Re: Fuck this month. Seriously. Straight in the eye.
I was going to work and a law enforcement officer lit up his ol' red 'n' blue lights on me. Says that I was going 50mph in a 45mph speed limit zone. I see that it's a big burly guy with his hand on his 9mm Glock approaching my vehicle. Goes back to his car and runs my info on the computer. Let's me go without a warning or issuing a speeding ticket. I finally arrive to work late because of this incident. If you keep your cool and don't give the cop any hard time, he or she is likely to not write you up. It also depends on the mood/temperment of the officer as well. Treat them nicely and hopefully, you'll get off with just a verbal warning instead of a written citation and/or your vehicle towed. If your vehicle is towed/impounded, you gotta pay the associated fees for towing/impoundment storage and all that related stuff just to get it back -- which isn't cheap. It'll bite you in the wallet or purse monetary-wise.
So nowdays, I just gotta watch out for law enforcement as they are out to get their "daily quota" during the day or at night...that is how them smaller cities and towns earn their additional revenue for their coffers these days.
Add in the possibility of gang bangers to the work commute and shit really hits the fan. Them fucking gang bangers all driving super slow like going 30mph in a 45mph zone...pass them up or flash your high beams at them while they're driving super slow and they'll pump you up full of lead just on that fact alone. This happened to me once on my way to work and I just had to trail slowly along behind them because I knew something was up. Add in the fact that the gang bangers' car in front of me had both driver's and passenger's windows rolled down -- perfect opportunity to take some very easy point-blank potshots if you look at them wrong or initate a "stare-down" senario. Still was trying to beat the clock and punch in on time for work. Makes me wonder how each work day will turn out? Will it be a normal regular day or not? Hmmm...sounds like fun having to contend with both law enforcement and gang bangers alike.

its called 'no-one wants to crash their car'. They can't afford to and they don't want the hassle. So there's virtually no need for speed cameras everywhere. Outside schools is fine though
.
I'm noticing a lot of sheep out on the roads at the moment. People that have had the full blue rinse brainwash and suddenly slam the brakes on the moment they see a 30mph sign - regardless of there being no camera for the next mile and a completely clear road in front of them.

I totally agree. In fact there was no speed limit on motorways/highways over here until Dec 1965. Its just something they came up with, and now its a major source of revenue for them.Honestly, I'd rather cops just sit around doing nothing or patrol the streets looking for real crimes than wasting time catching people speeding who are otherwise harming nobody
