I have the worst job for meeting people (and having a social life in general). Night shift, working alone - it's pretty terrible. I'm going to quit it as a reward for finishing the game I'm working on. That is going to feel good.Skykid wrote:Don't you guys have jobs?

Re: How to meet people (help thread)
Jobs can be hit or miss. I've worked at places where I could spend an entire day saying only a few words, and I've worked at places where we spent half of our time joking around. But even at those places, I usually never talked to anybody outside of work. Maybe the occasional lunch or a drink after work, but that's about it. I'm not sure how common that is or how different it is across cultures.Skykid wrote:Don't you guys have jobs?
Almost all of my college friends were people I met in the dorms or friends of friends I met in the dorms. Unfortunately you'll miss out on a lot of that by being part-time. You can still meet people in class, of course, it's just harder.junkeR wrote:I am currently attending college part-time.
Also, after re-reading my first post, it sounds like I'm saying "meh, people suck, don't bother." There's a certain amount of truth to that, but what I really meant to say was that socializing for socialization's sake isn't any better than being alone. Back in the day I bought into the mindset that activities done with other people are inherently better than any activities done alone. So I'd agree to go out and do something I wasn't particularly interested in just because it seemed like the right thing to do. It took me a while to figure out that it's alright to stay home if I want to, and that other people might not understand that, but whatever. I'd probably go insane if I never went out, but I'm comfortable meeting up with my friends just a few times per month, even though that would drive a lot of people crazy.

A healthy sense of humor helps, women like guys that make them laugh. Other than that the only wisdom I know is to not do something fake and don't try to buy friendship...act natural and it will come to you.

Don't bathe or shave and make sure to shit and piss in your pants regularly.
Re: How to meet people (help thread)
Ugh, I'm still not sure. I think I need to get this "need a relationship" bug out of my system. When I look back at my last and only relationship I've had, I would say I'm a lot happier being alone. I'm just going to let things go on as they are and if it happens, it happens. If I end up alone - then, I end up alone.
I like being able to play games and sleep when I want. I probably deserve to be alone, huh?

There's nothing that says you can't do these things in a relationship. I don't think you deserve to be alone, because you want to do things you like.junkeR wrote:I like being able to play games and sleep when I want. I probably deserve to be alone, huh?

It's all about finding the "right" one. "Right" and "most attractive" doesn't always match though. And beggars can't be choosers. If you find you're not in luck socially, you might wanna pick up "The Game" by Neil Strauss: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Game:_ ... up_Artists
If it won't help you socialize, it will at least be a good read.

All cool chicks are fat or uggo. This is because some little nerd dug his claws into the attractive ones when they were both like 8-13. When you find magical mythical leprechaun gold, only a foolish fool would toss it down the drain.

Re: How to meet people (help thread)
Im a introvert and when i was a kid i found it really hard talking to ppl, nowadays ive learnt the gift of the gab and enjoy talking to ppl when i see them i just dont go out of my way to see them as im still very much a person who likes his own space alot of the time.
I find its really helpfull to just try to take a intrest in as many things as possible and be aware of the world around u and current events so atleast u have something to talk about with the ppl you see. The more things u have to chat about the better the chance of finding a connection with whoever your socilising with. If your only into gaming and star trek then its goon be hard going. Oh and like some1 said b4 a sense of humour is a really good thing to have, even if all u do is laugh to other ppls jokes.
If u dont meet that many ppl in RL to develop your socilising skills you can still do so on the net eather in chatrooms or even better over something like teamspeak in a mmo or other multiplayer game that uses voice coms (just dont annoy every1 in the same chat channel, use a seperate chat channel if the situation warrents it)

It doesn't mean you deserve to be alone, but does shrink the dating pool. The annoying irony is that a good match for you might be hard to find since she's probably not frequently out and about either.junkeR wrote:Ugh, I'm still not sure. But, at least you realized that no relationship > bad relationship. A lot of people have that reversed and the results are often pretty terrible.

Re: How to meet people (help thread)
Best way to meet people is to use your family. You must have cousins, brothers or sisters that would let you tag along somewhere.
Get yourself arrested, plenty of nice people in jail.
Trouble is you come across a bit scary not being able to meet people. Be a fish out of water. If people are too much hard work, buy a dog... A dog can cure you.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Yeah - I understand this, and it's frustrating to a point. How am I supposed to find someone like me, when they're probably at home too? I should start a bachelor/reality TV series - "Lonesome in the Midwest".Davey wrote:The annoying irony is that a good match for you might be hard to find since she's probably not frequently out and about either.

Go on plentyofish or something and look up the chicks who like 4chan/somethingawful or something. Brace yourself for fats/uggos/drug addicts/excessive crazy.junkeR wrote:How am I supposed to find someone like me, when they're probably at home too?
Thankfully well rounded individuals do exist who are only a little of all the above. There is hope.

Those aren't the people sitting at home too. A lot of people I've known that go on there are just looking for attention, and they're not necessarily unsocial.BryanM wrote:Go on plentyofish or something and look up the chicks who like 4chan/somethingawful or something. It's important to be precise with these things as vague communication is bad.
