It's a petroleum company based out of the US. They own Texaco and Caltex gas stations, too.

There's one guy at GameStop I like, the manager. Guy's been a gamer since the NES days and we talk a lot about games. I felt good advising him to check out Metal Slug 5 on the PS2..next time I came he was like "Holy crap man, how long have I been missing out on this stuff?!"

Okay, I have a quick question for you guys- as I was browsing around various EB Games/Gamestops for a copy of Riviera yesterday (which was the shipping date, not the release date, I need to beat up Atlus for that one since WoW was released on the promised date), everyone was saying that I should preorder a copy to make sure that I'd be able to get one. I'd call BS on that statement simply because nobody's probably heard of that game anyway, so there won't be droves of people looking for it. Did I make a foolish mistake of not preordering a copy?

EB's policy on "unknown" games was to ship one copy of a game to a store unless it had preorders, in which case the store got one extra copy of the game for every preorder. The only game I ever totally failed to find in a physical store was Castlevanaia Chronicles, which I had to order online.

If you're going to buy a game for sure, and you know what store you'll go to first... you might as well preorder it.

In my experience from buying lots of games from lots of different places.

EB guys are really cool, but seem to emphasise the best games have the best graphics. The reason this is becomes apparent when you ask them how long they play each game. Which is approx 1 hour on average. Several of my EB guys have 2 or 3 games they have never played.

The Best buy guys seem to be slightly more fanboyish and will recommend certain GOOD titles.

ToysRus is full of people that have no clue at all, and will always ask you if you want to preorder Harry Potter.

Absolutely none of them know anything out of the mainstream.

You'd didn't make a mistake in not preordering it, Dai. If you can't find it at Eb then you can get it online - probably for cheaper.

I'd like to order from them, but I have to pay sales tax online now as well as shipping for the game. That's never good.

I work in a games store. Its the only one of its kind in the world and acts as a front for SNKP in Australia and also has other import titles. Some stuff I find that they ridiculously over-price but at least they are honest and the manager is cool.

I would never ever work at EB or the Australian equivelant of Gamestop Games Wizard and the fact that I don't and never will makes me proud.

As with any customer service job, I'm sure they care much more about customer service skills and retail experience than how much you play games.
I think that's true Andi.

I was told by a friend of mine who use to work in a game store that during an interview, you want to talk-up your customer service skills, and such, and not talk so much about gaming. The reason, according to this friend, is because game stores don't want people working there just to be customers there.

But, heck, I'd love to work for a game store-I mean, I love gaming, so wouldn't it be good to have a job that reflects on who you are? :?

And all the above negative comments about Gamestop and EB are why I'd LOVE to work for GameCrazy-seriously, the friggin' managers will actually TELL you if a game is not worth buying, and they have no problem allowing their employees to do so.

And it's such a fun atmosphere at the GameCrazy near my house-on Monday night I was trading in some games, and one of the two young teens working there had a Queen compilation playing in the background-and the four of us (there was another customer in there, too) started doing the Wayne's World head bang together when that part of the song hit.  It was awesome, and it was so much fun!

Yeah, I heard that a friend of mine wasn't able to get a job at Gamecrazy because he didn't know the answers to specific questions like who was the director for Devil May Cry 3 (or something like that) and which company was responsible for the Final Fantasy series (and if you guessed Square-Enix, you fail).

I love games but I hate the thought of being in a store surrounded by games 24/7.

I would go mad.

I work at an EB in the evenings, and I find it alot of fun. I am not a know it all, but I will give advice if someone asks. Moreover, I realize and respect that different people have different tastes.

All the other guys that work with me are really cool and have good taste in games, In fact, my assistant manager and I have done Fire Emblem 8 Link Arena on our lunch break on more than one occasion. Everyone who works there bought Guild Wars on release date, so it was nice to have an instant group of friends as soon as I started playing. The only downside was my boss asked me to come to work while I was questing a few times :)

There arent any gamestops around, so when the store changes name, I doubt anyone is getting fired. Most of the store's regulars are retro gamers as well, and I usually have alot of fun chatting when it isnt busy.

Edit: I'm not sure if its just our store, but we always get 5 copies of lesser known, or obscure games. We got 5 of Riviera and Atelier Iris on the 29th, same for Finny the Fish, Raze's Hell, Stella Deus, Technic Beat, and most others.
