True. The main reason the term "casual games" came about was to describe games with simple controls like the old arcade games, but easier to play. In fact they tend to start out so easy as to put most members of this board to sleep.
Closely related are cell phone games which have to be pretty easy because the controls are imprecise or just suck. I have yet to see a cell phone game I like. I want a DS phone dammit.
I think of myself as a casual gamer, but I use the term "casual gamer" loosely just to mean that I'm not hardcore in various ways. To give just one example: I don't really care much about/keep up on games that aren't RPGs or shmups. A hardcore gamer is going to be into videogames more generally, I suspect.
