Otomedius just doesnt have the love in NA, but its still popular in JP...

But you can't use points, you need to use a credit card. Oh and it's ip locked.
You can use points, Simply open up the game purchase page and press Y then it gives you the option to pay 2000 points per game.

Before last weekend I'd totally agree with you, but funny thing now is, almost all 360 shmups on Play Asia are not in stock. The only one in stock is Otomedius!

And this happens when I've just ordered Raiden fighters JET and Raiden IV

I would like to know if I need to be "Live" to play these games when purchased and safely available on my HDD?

Edit: Also, do all games seem to cost 2000 Live points?

According to the official FAQ, you only need to be 'Live' if you are playing the games on a console that you did not buy the game(s) on (unless you have used the DRM tool to transfer the rights to a different console). The same as with XBLA games.

However, Elixir is claiming that the games are IP-locked...

Xbox Originals were IP locked. Using a JP account on a JP 360 I could not buy GGXX#Reload - "This content is not currently available in your region" - I would imagine that I would get the same error if I tried going far enough with a 360 game-on-demand also.

How far did it let you go before you got the message? Were you paying using MSP? It may be possible to circumvent using a JPN Proxy server.

Select the game, choose to buy using MSP, and then it brings up the error then.

I've no doubt it's circumventable but it's still an almighty pain in the ass :) My biggest gripe with XBL lately is that they choose different region protection methods for different products - i.e. I can't buy some things from the JP marketplace due to having an UK IP, and yet because of my console region they won't let me play 1vs100 with my UK Gold account and IP.

I know one burning question about GoD is whether or not there will be locking on both the download and then the running, but I'm hoping someone else will take the plunge for me first and find out. If it's purely IP locked this is great news for owners of UK/US machines.

Yes, the games are IP-blocked.

Yes, you can circunvain it by using a Proxy. You do not need to make the whole download by the proxy, just the start and end of it (disconnectiong from the slow proxy in the middle of download). I do that for US XBLA games blocked here. However I do not know any free or trial Japanese VPN servers. Do you know any?

I'm sure some must exist (free JPN VPN servers).

Of course, another option might be to get a friend in Japan to login with your JPN account to buy the game, get them to delete it, then login in your country and see if it lets you redownload it. If that doesn't work then another option would be to send your HDD to Japan, get them to buy it over there and save to your HDD, return it, then use the DRM tool to transfer the digital rights certificate to your machine (so you don't have to be logged into Live to play the games). These GoD games work offline so I doubt there's a 2nd IP check everytime you run the game. Of course, this would only really be practical when purchasing several games, and for people with JPN consoles. I can't see them removing the region protecton.

No I wouldn't of bought a Japanese xbox if I had no intention of playing these games. Also if I didn't have a interest about the actual games themselves then I wouldn't have joined this forum.
In that case I apologize :D . That post doesn't refer to you.
No problem! :D
