If you do break down and buy a brand new PS3 console, you'll find out that SCEA is so cheap-ass that they won't even include an HDMI cable but rather a lowly PSX composite video cable with both L&R audio jacks (reminescient of the PSX console days) to get you started out of the gate. Guess the console manufacturers gotta cut corners where it's necessary -- means having to spend more of your hard-earned $$$ if you want the best picture quality (just like with anything else these days).

I had to fork out $60+ for a Sony branded HDMI cable but it was well worth it in the end for the crystal clear picture in 1080p affords. Eventually upgraded to a Monster Cable HDMI cable set and it's awesome all the way! ^_~

Both Wipeout HD And WOHD-Fury are worth taking the plunge just to play it online with the super clean 1080p visuals. Playing Wipeout 3 won't cut it once you've had a sample taste of what the latest Wipeout games have to offer, Zaarock. You can even d/l the WOHD demo to see if it is for you or not from the USA region Playstation Store Network (PSN) site. ^_~

You paid $60 for an HDMI cable? They can be had online for around $5. Nothing is a bigger ripoff in stores these days..

Nobody does this. Of all of the HD compatible devices I've bought (PS3, 360, HD Video Camera, BluRay Recorder) none have come with anything other than a video cable. They will only put the minimum required in there. Only the PS3 was a Sony product.

You upgraded from a Sony cable to a Monster cable? You do realize that HDMI is digital, right? That as long as you have any signal, it's going to look the same?

I wasn't expecting the eliminator mode to be much fun (didn't like it in Pulse) but being able to flick around and shoot a plasma or quake into a group of ships is too much fun. The new ship skins look fantastic, too - the old ones were great, but the Fury ones are amazing. I don't get zone battle though. How am I supposed to take an advantage over the other racers? I hit all the pads I can and use the zone boost, but I can't take the lead on elite that way. I can somehow win on skilled, but I'm not sure what the strategy is.

Also, question for anyone who's plowed further through the campaign - do the old tracks get mixed in? For the first 3 grids it's been only the new tracks and mostly new modes, which gets a little tiresome.

Fuck this fucking game.

-When you win a round in a tournament, you're at the front of the line the next race, not the last.
-The laws of physics disallow something to go exactly straight up (perpendicular to the ground) when travelling fast. Why the fuck does my ship do this?
-Auto pilot -- move out of the way of the fucking bombs please. As a bonus, dodge the other ships.

It would be too easy if this were the case. Anyway, you don't get to shoot at other ships if you're leading the whole time.

If you bounce it off a 45* surface you can divert its momentum straight up. I've had this happen a few times, it seems to happen when you hit the edge of the track at the wrong angle coming off a jump. Definitely a physics glitch, but if your racing line is good this doesn't seem to happen much.

Worse is managing to stick to the side of track (dunno if this was HD or Pulse) - you take damage continuously and you can't get off, so you just explode.
-Auto pilot -- move out of the way of the fucking bombs please. As a bonus, dodge the other ships.
Auto pilot is worthless. Just absorb it.

I just got the 'Elite Campaign Legend' a few days ago. It's hard, but it's not impossible. Autopilot is only worthless on the slower speed classes - on Phantom it's really useful.

I haven't played this much online, but against the AI, frankly there isn't much strategy. Hit speed pads until your boost meter is (nearly) +8.0, then boost. Repeat until you win. (Or die trying.) The thing to note here is that while the first two or so pads will only give +0.3, additional pads are worth progressively more. So boosting 0.3 at a time will get you nowhere fast.

Barrel rolls and perfect laps will also give you some additional boost, but I find this rarely useful in practice.

Nope, the Fury campaign consists only of the new tracks.
