I've played the world version an you have an energy meter, not sure on any other changes though
er, its just MAME at the moment.. I plan on picking up a copy

the world version also has instant re-spawn where you die (no checkpoints)
and I think slightly faster enemy bullet patterns.

I like the Jpn. version better
i had the jpn version but i just couldnt get over how sluggish and unresponsive the gameplay felt, a real shame as the game sure has some fantastic potential..
i just chose LEO cause most people dont have it, all the R-types (and gradiuses) are better than xexex...
Yeah something inthe game doesn't feel right, like when shooting those small enemies and those ships at the start of the game.

I'm not sure how I can explain it really.

Heh, i got my first PCB in 1998 , a cheap copy of Robocop. I bought from off an arcade operator at a seaside resort near me, and a few days later i bought a Raven-Games Supergun complete with a shitty 3rd party megadrive pad  Over the years i amassed about 40 PCB's from trading Nintendo LCD games with said arcade operator which i'd get from sunday car-boot sales for £1 and straight swap it for a PCB:) I've since filtered down my PCB collection though, it just took up too much space and i didnt play half of them, anyway i have everything i need on xbox mame0x :o (and every computer/console game i've ever owned). Saying that though i prefer to play shooters on a proper PCB for the extra precision in control.

Would have to be R-Type, as it's been my all time faveorite for many moons now, with Vulcan Venture or DoDonPachi close behind. My ultimate obsession is to own an Out Run or Out Runners sit-down. One day.....

People touching a PCB by the solder side without even discharging their electrostatic load beforehand make me cringe. Recently I saw someone playing his Virtua Fighter 3 setup with some metallic parts resting on the powered PCB and a glass of juice standing beside it. I had to pull myself together not to scream out...

The way I see it, playing these things is a privilege, but also a responsibility.
I play my PCBs hanging out of the front of the cab, resting on the metal base/footrest. I have a thick sheet of cardboard between them though... The ones that make me cringe are people using non antistatic wrap and racking them up tightly, or worse - stacking upon eachother.

Robocop was my first board, bought from an arcade distributor along with Captain Commando! I bought a cab a week later from a place in Bolton. I amassed somewhere between 200 and 300 games before culling the collection as it took over the entire house. Got 42 now, only a few missing from what I want, and there are a few I can sell too.
