I wondered about that. What does it look like on a widescreen TV zoomed out all the way?Animaitor wrote:* Deathsmiles (XBox 360): not too bad but I like Cotton series better.
* Darwin 4081 (Mega Drive): played the arcade (Darwin 4078) to death. The game was just 480 yen (mint). Just need to get myself a Mega Drive.
* Darius II (Saturn): wish it could show the wide mode in a more proper way.

I forgot to play with the monitor's settings (Dell 24") and by changing the "scaling" from aspect to fill you get the the game to reach the side edges which looks great! XRBG-3 and Scart cables thrown in the mix.doctorx0079 wrote:I wondered about that. What does it look like on a widescreen TV zoomed out all the way?
Here you can see the game in a sequence:
1. All the way zoomed in (using the side buttons of the pad) you get the best picture quality but the game is pretty hard. Also pay attention the side black bars, something normal considering we are dealing with widescreens.
2. Zoomed out, that's the standard way most people will play Darius II.
3. If your LCD monitor or TV lets you change the way it scales the image you might get something like this. On my Dell, I just change the scaling to fill as I mentioned before. This way you get rid of some black area on the top and bottom and the screen reaches the sides getting the most of your TV or monitor and getting as close as possible to the arcade version (considering we are using just one screen and not 3!)
4. Settings for the scaling on a Dell 24".
Sorry for the off topic!

Just got a mint Raiden DX (PS1) to replace my severely battered hand-me-down copy. Original release too, old one was Hamster.

I've had a street fighter cabinet for 5 years now with a variety of CPS1 and CPS2 games.
Started to think about my limited shmup playing days when I was younger...raiden, strikers...then thought...let's take a dive into some shmup boards...
Got Raiden DX about a month ago...have to say i suck at this still...
On their way are:
Strikers 1945 II
Raiden Fighters Jet
Do Don Pachi
About to purchase:
DDP DOJ
I'm going to be busy with these...but with another little one on his way in August (on top of a 19 month old)...I don't have as much time as I'd like...

I just ordered Dodonpachi Daioujou for Xbox 360. I also have a Darius Gaiden (Saturn) game coming as well.

Shikigami III is a port and it's sucks. I could play it on my Japanese 360 back in Manchester on 720p. But see, I dont even want to do THAT. Major fail compared to Shikigami II. I don't know what Ultimate Shooting Collection is but it looks like Milestone games. Inotherwords it looks bad.Momijitsuki wrote:What about the Ultimate Shooting Collection and Shikigami no Shiro III?Erinu wrote:Recently purchased Gradius Rebirth for the Wii. I also thought there were no shmups available on the Wii. I only found out of Virtual Console on the Wii today, as it wasn't connected to the Net before. Did you check the titles there? OK the games are old but in my humble opinion those are the best. I am eager to download games like R-Type III for instance, or the Turrican series.Erinu wrote:Shikigami III is a port and it's sucks. Sure, the game out of the box isn't much (it kinda, well.. sucks, frankly); but you could *potentially* make the best shmup for Wii, right? >_>
Actually, I need a willing guinea pig to see if my save (/w the movement editor unlocked) will work with a PAL copy of the game (or even just a non-US Wii.) Anyone?
