Yeah, I have a good number of them -- I've got Fighter's Destiny, SSB, Flying Dragon, Mace: The Dark Age, Clayfighter 63 1/3, and War Gods. I've also played KI Gold and MK Trilogy before. My opinions aren't the same as that author's, of course (I think Mace: The Dark Age is great, my favorite Midway fighter on the system for sure. It's got great graphics, interactive multi-level stages (first ever?) with traps and obstacles and everything, slower-paced gameplay than most Midway fighting games, with some clear Street Fighter influence instead of just Mortal Kombat... pretty interesting. Clayfighter is terrible, however. Hilarious, but terrible. The gameplay is simplistic and cheap (and combo-heavy, in 63 1/3, though you don't need to use them to win, you can easily button-mash your way to victory, against the computer at least). War Gods is just abysmal, truly, truly awful. It's like 3d Mortal Kombat, try one, with awful gameplay and the worst cast ever. It is oddly playable in 2-player mode, if you have a friend who likes Mortal Kombat and bad game and character design, butreally there are better games you should be playing... I paid $3 and it might not have been worth it, really. Fighter's Destiny, though, is great. It's a very interesting, unique game that really should have gotten a lot more attention. The scoring system is quite different and fun. I do agree about Flying Dragon, though -- it's a quite good game, with a lot of options and good gameplay. SD mode is indeed the better of the two; indeed, the Japan-exclusive sequel was SD only (the sequel is mentioned in the Flying Dragon section, but doesn't get its own listing... it's rare, apparently. I'd like to play it sometime...).

As for KI Gold and MK Trilogy, well, you either like those games or you don't... I've never liked KI much, myself, and while MK is okay, I've never been very good at it and aren't really a big fan of the series. I don't actually own any MK games, for instance... :)

The N64 isn't the greatest fighting game console ever, for sure, particularly in 2d fighters where SSB, KI Gold, MK Trilogy, and Rakuga Kids are all you get, versus the PSX and Saturn with their large libraries of great 2d fighting games, but I think it can hold its own against them in 3d fighters, overall. The other systems have much better known games, but give Flying Dragon, Fighter's Destiny, and Mace: The Dark Age a try... they're worth it. :)

For some reason, I absolutely loved Bio-Freaks.

I enjoyed Vanishing Earth quite a bit, too. At the time, it was cool just to see a game like it on the '64 (finally); but the secret paths/hidden stages really were a cool touch.

Might also be because I didn't have a Playstation, too; but I still like playing it from time to time. :)

(Fighter's Destiny was awesome, btw)
