I'm glad I got in to PCBs because it made me focus on one particular game at a time. The cost of PCBs kinda prevents you from just buying a game, giving it a cursory play and letting it sit on the shelf. The games may cost more but if you're anything like me, you may wind up getting more out of them.
good point on the focusing..... i was actually just about to edit my post to add a comment to this effect
Elixir: I'm not expecting miracles in PCBs. I have Mushi on the PS2 and I'm happy with it for now, if I have some cash I would upgrade to the PS2. Until then I'm pretty happy.
jonny5: The reason for different connections because if I'm going to use it at different houses they won't have RGB, but they will have component or less.
Acid King: This is why I want to get into PCBs. I been collecting many ports over the years and the more games that I own the less time I play with them. It just sits on the shelfs without getting any use. That's why I'm down to like 30-40 games and tonight I'm putting up more games for sale to bring down the count to 25-30 games on four different systems (PS1/2, DC, SAT). I basically only play Shmups and platformers nowadays and noting else pretty much. Of course I'll still keep the shmup ports on the DC, the Saturn (Battle Garegga, Batsugun, others) and a good bit on the PS1/2 (Salamander Deluxe Pack, Wolf Fang, Raiden DX, others).

I can imaging. I actually like Mushi and if possible I would like to pick up the PCB in the future if I have a lot of cash (or I can use my credit card, but it's a credit card, meh).
Build a supergun and get a cheap pcb to start with, get Sky Shark or something Toaplan from that era. I've been toying with PCB's since in high-school, and traveling with them is no problem, you wrap in bubble wrap and put in a box, done. There is nothing to owning a supergun/jamma setup, it is bare bones simple and any of the more expensive stuff just helps keep things very elegant and minimal, you're better off throwing together something right now in a shoe box and then looking on YAJ or elsewhere for the sweet deal to show up on something nice.
Plus, you've got an XRGB2 already, so don't even worry about a supergun that outputs anything other than the R, G, B and sync wires!
what type of controller do you have? suggested priority:
-good stick
-bare bones supergun setup, arcade PSU and jamma harness, wired to DB-15 neogeo style plug and Japanese Scart connector for the XRGB2 and audio plug to route through the xrgb2?
-cheap pcb

I can't make a supergun or I'm not tech-savvy enough to do it (and honestly I don't want to fried a board).
If I go with Fire-bug I'll most likely ask for component and SCART output (for TVs with no SCART there's component). If using the XRGB2 the video plus audio goes in the XRGB2 and the video will be displayed on anything VGA and the audio will go the speakers.
I have four joysicks but if I'm getting FB's SG I'll most likely find a Neo-Geo stick or get a modded Saturn pad for it.
get a game you really love and focus on it for a good while.....i would say its probably best to throw down a little more money sometimes and get what you really want...dont be afraid to spoil yourself.....

I'm honestly not the biggest fan of ESPrade, I would like to get myself some Toaplan, NMK, and Psikyo boards.
The main reason I never got a supergun was simply that I didn't have room to store the PCBs. The cost was an issue, but storing a bunch of boards wasn't (and still isn't) really something I can do.
Maybe someday...
