Just like Nintendo's used to be red, as can be seen on the box of a Super Nintendo (and the boxes of all their (western) games & systems until recently). Pretty pointless to argue about this. And now it's officially grey.
Enter "NES box" into google image search and be surprised. Also, I'm afraid you're completely missing the point. Here it is again:
A couple of posts ago, I wrote:Nintendo has always adjusted the colour of their logo to fit the context.
Over the years, games have greeted me with red, blue, white, black, grey Nintendo logos on startup. And I've seen it in many a colour printed on their gaming gear. The colour of their logo obviously doesn't matter much to Nintendo themselves. If it was all that important to them, they'd have made sure that it's the same red on every occasion you might see it.

Fact is: If Nintendo gives a rat's ass about the colour of their logo (which dates way back even to SNES and NES days), and if they use different colours to make it fit various environments anyway, why would I care what the so-called 'official' colour is?

Even better: enter "Nintendo Logo" instead.

Here you go, but please go easy on your wrists :
Dear Media Partner,

For several years, a new generation of Wii and Nintendo DS games have adorned themselves with a new logo, in discrete grey.

In various publications the former logo, with red lettering, can still be seen. In the event that you have not already done so, we would like to sincerely ask you to now only use the current, gray Nintendo logo.

Yours sincerely,

The team from Nintendo & Popular PR.

Yes.
Well, yeah. Nintendo was great back in the days. Snes is a great console and Super Metroid will always be one of the best games ever. But today? Rubbish.

So? Again: Why should it be important which exact official logo colour gets largely ignored by Nintendo themselves?
