I snagged a PCB of this game a few weeks ago and have been playing it quite a bit, wish I'd gotten into it earlier! Here's my best run so far:

884,500 - stuminator - Marion - 1-7 - PCB

1LCed to stage 6, game-over'd to the last attack in the pirate battle with three bombs in stock. So damn close...

EDIT:
998,100 - Azinth - Tavia - 1-7 - MAME

EDIT2: Third time's the charm. :)
1,132,200 - Azinth - Tavia - 2-1 - MAME

YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!

I got USA for my 2-1.

Have you ever tried to collect the coins with the right timing? Sometimes they flash brighter for a tiny fraction of a second. The timing is easier than in Strikers 1 and 2 because the coins rotate here. If you collect coins while they flash it gets you 2,000 points apiece. If you nearly do it 1,000 points. Otherwise 500 or 200 points.
If you collect multiple 2,000 coins in a row you get a chain and bonus points (maximum 4,000 points per coin).

Additionally you should trigger some gemheads which give lots of points. They appear when you´re in a certain spot at a certain point of time, then shoot them and collect the jewels. To know where the spots are, watch a superplay or here for example.

My first time clearing round 1, and upon first impressions, yeah, the loop appears as ball-bustingly hard as everyone says it is. Got Italy as 2-1, so I didn't get to see the infamous USA stage. Not sure yet how much time and effort I'll want to put into learning the loop.

Coin Chain: Azinth - 35

Finally 1-ALL'd again and beat my old score. It took me two goddamn months to do it, but I did it.

This game is kind of boring, and way too easy. (-_-)zzzZZZZZ

I think I'll move on to Turbo Force now.

Paltry improvement, but the second digit is a 3 instead of a 2 now so it looks cooler. :P

I had this kind of score in Strikers 1945. Well I could indeed improve it some time later...

Keep it up. ;)
One day I´ll also try again to get this damn extend and to reach 1-6 and then I´d probably be done with this game.

Maybe I should switch to Tavia first before trying to get the clear, this game gets fucking insane.

First time no-missing the first loop, though it was a sloppy no-miss. I wanted to also reach 2-3 this run, but I got USA for 2-2. :?

Wanted to get some diversion and thus I played a lot of credits in Gunbird 2 today. Switched over to Morrigan and Alucard and improved my score a lot due to finally getting the extend. The practice in other Psikyo shooters really seems to pay off. I got to the 2nd part of the Stage 6 boss.

For now I´ll mainly concentrate on Zero Gunner 2, maybe I´ll play a little Gunbird 2 now and then. Still gotta practice the gemheads in stages 4 to 6.

1,636,200 - Azinth - Tavia - 2-3 - MAME

-Died to the 1-6 boss during that really easy spiral pattern in the beginning of the fight
-Died while milking the 1-7 boss, resulting in killing him too fast and loosing a good 30k or so
-Lost final life to the 2-3(Japan) boss with 3 bombs in stock and about 10 seconds away from him dying ;______;

But aside from those three... heartbreaking mistakes this was a pretty good run. I swear I could get to at least 2-5 if I could cut away all the dumb mistakes in the first round.

Do you mean how chaining works? I can explain the basic rules for chaining. But you might just be saying that you're not into it.

Is there some trick to it? I tried a couple of different things, and well, only got a big ass chain of one. It seemed like however I picked them up the value was random.

The coins rotate and when they´re in a certain position (you´ll see them as a circle and not oval-shaped) they flash bright for a very brief moment. If you collect them in this moment you get 2,000 points. Collecting several 2,000 points medals in a row results in a chain and bonus points. You can let coins disappear from the bottom of the screen, but collecting a medal with wrong timing will break your chain.

Many other Psikyo games have a similar system.

Thanks, that clears up alot. I gave it a try, and well.. That's just evil. As if the game isn't hard enough already. At least it gives me more control, I would rather get a bunch of 1000's than 200's.

It's best to mostly ignore coin chaining before you're comfortable with the stages anyway. Go ahead and attempt some chaining in 1-1 and 1-2 since they're easy enough, but after that, worry about staying alive for now. Focus on getting to 1-5 or 1-6, you can get lots of free points there from power items. :)
