Sales threads, bitching and flaming about peoples prices.
Re: Sales threads, bitching and flaming about peoples prices
Assuming somebody knows it's there, and assuming you don't get ripped off or whatnot. Really, I've made a lot of my finds recently by just trolling eBay and getting a bit lucky.Dave_K. wrote:Ebay is a fine place to put something up for sale where you don't know how much its worth, and then be assured you will always get what someone is willing to pay for it.
I am not talking about strait to ban, But some people are doing it to piss others off or just feel the need to abuse peoples threads. repeat offenders would get banned just like people have in the past for breaking rules time after time or being told to not do what there doing again and again.KindGrind wrote: Friendly advice via PM, as Lordstar and others mentioned, should be the way to go, but then again, banning people who make comments on other people's threads seems too much.
It happens all the time though people say somehting there not meant to say or act how there not meant to act and most the time there blind to the fact there doing it. A polite prod to bring up the fact that what there doing is not "how we do things round these parts" will have the guilty party blush and say sorry in most cases. If they get all uppity and shity about it well they only have themselves to blame since if it was a rule it would be down in the rules thread of the trade section.
And we have all read that before we started trading, right?
as for being overley dramatic i was just point out the worst case senario. But we have all seen people go
Pfft! That price is too much i would not pay half for that
and if you have not then your blind. Becuase in the past week I can think of at least three cases where people have scoffed at a price and felt the need to get on there soap box about it and at least one of those cases where a thread had to be locked becuase everyone had something to say about it.
Hands up whos had a sales thread locked becuase someone got shitty and poisioned a thread?
when i had my first thread on here I had tons of people say. aah man thats like 24USD for a tee shirt I can get one at the mall for like 3! They forget i have to pay rent, tax material costs and everything was custom and bispoke as where the mall would be a shitty iron on transfer and you guys in the US have the advantage of paying us prices for stuff.
on the other side of it when i was selling MVS carts some one pointed out that one of my carts was on the heavy side via PM I had no idea it was and I adjusted the price a little.
so it does work. I just think a lot of people speaking out about prices is nothing but malicious or taken the wrong way

Pfft! This thread is too much I would not pay half that for this. Maybe your mom would if she joined the bandwagon and sold all her cave boards also. But then she'd be a big fat loser, like you, for having to have a game so bad she shelled out a grand or more for it. Then decided it wasn't something she had to have that bad and sold it b/c everyone else has them also so it's not quite that elite anymore.
(this is sarcasm btw)

Fuck yeah I will say it ! But only in PM its fucking shitty to call someone up on somehting in public, It makes them look bad and makes you look even worse.D wrote:+1 for lordstar to have the guts to actually say it.
There is nothing wrong with pm-ing a potential buyer and warning them about the possible overpricing. HE will thanks you and say: "I know, but I want it now". Everybody is happy!
Most of the arguments stem from the slaes thread and offtopic. I think this would stop the girly fights in the sales thread.
I know i'm Happy now that I have D's PS3. his mum has her pcb baggie. everyone happy. . . well maybe not D. If he is super nice his mum might lwet him look at the PCB feet. NO TOUCHING!Strider77 wrote:Is your mom happy D? She traded your PS3 for a sealed baggie of cave PCB feet.

No, I really don't think it's smart to sell something a month later for more than what you paid for it, excluding shipping. I actually pm'd him before Dave replied in that thread but it still didn't work. I give up.
Despite numerous Mushi boards selling for $500 shipped, I put mine up for $450 shipped and this is when you attempt to negotiate on the price by telling me what the "market" is. You provided cheaper sources, yet you were interested in my board over those cheaper sources.

If I have the choice between giving business to a random stranger or a valued member of a community, I'll try to work something out with the community guy first.robivy64 wrote:Despite numerous Mushi boards selling for $500 shipped, I put mine up for $450 shipped and this is when you attempt to negotiate on the price by telling me what the "market" is. If the price is significantly higher than the other ones, I'll certainly try and negotiate it down - and if we can't come to a deal because he refuses to negotiate on his price, then I'll probably pass and get the cheaper one elsewhere.
I like giving people here business, but I like saving money too. I'm not terribly interested in overpaying for something just because I'm helping someone here.
Same thing when I'm selling - I usually post on the forums I frequent before I drop anything on ebay/amazon. Give people here a chance to buy it before I put it on the auction block.
I try to be pretty reasonable with pricing, but even then sometimes people make ridiculously low offers. And although I prefer to sell to forumites than ebayers, i'm not going to take a huge loss just to do so.
If people point out cheaper prices elsewhere on similar quality goods, often I'll adjust mine downward for them if they want to buy - I have no problems being corrected on market prices. Things change so quickly it's hard to keep up with all of them. If I think the going price is too low, i'll probably just say "wow, didn't realize it was worth so little, maybe i'll just keep it for now" and take it off the sale list until next time.
You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.
I would rather buy a PCB for 500 on here from a known seller than an ebay one for a fraction cheaper. its just safer IMO
My peace of mind when buying is priceless to me. I have lost sleep when buying pricey items off ebay when the seller leaves it two weeks to dispatch.

I see your point, and dealing with the asian resellers can be a bit of a gamble. The source he provided was about the same price as my board. it is now obvious this was a poor negotiating attempt.benstylus wrote:If I have the choice between giving business to a random stranger or a valued member of a community, I'll try to work something out with the community guy first.robivy64 wrote:Despite numerous Mushi boards selling for $500 shipped, I put mine up for $450 shipped and this is when you attempt to negotiate on the price by telling me what the "market" is. I completely agree - if it was one at $450 vs the shmups seller at $500, i'd go with the shmups seller.Lordstar wrote:I would rather buy a PCB for 500 on here from a known seller than an ebay one for a fraction cheaper. its just safer IMO

On the other hand, if there are several going for $300 to $350 each, and the shmups seller asks $500, would you still pay the $500 to the shmups member?

entirley depends on the sellers Item history (did they have a history of good game/arcade selling) feed back and if it was carols collectables.benstylus wrote:I completely agree - if it was one at $450 vs the shmups seller at $500, i'd go with the shmups seller.Lordstar wrote:I would rather buy a PCB for 500 on here from a known seller than an ebay one for a fraction cheaper. its just safer IMO

That I am. I will make and send out an item if it goes missing. I have excelent customer relations and have great after sales service which most places dont. Ive had one "hic up" on here which was not my fault but other than that my record is perfect I can say im one of the best sellers on the forum. I take a bit of time to send stuff out but then most the sellers on here dont make to order what there selling.
p.s Thanks for the plug dude
so back on track
is this a good idea then? backed up with a what price do you think this is thread in the sales section it would work? Any big boys/mods care to comment?

They stopped this on eBay for a reason.D wrote:There is nothing wrong with pm-ing a potential buyer and warning them about the possible overpricing.
Much of the time it's probably a good idea, but it creates the opportunity for people to poison a sales thread or spread disinformation...jus' sayin'.
I would be wondering why the one on eBay is going for so much less.Lordstar wrote:I would rather buy a PCB for 500 on here from a known seller than an ebay one for a fraction cheaper.
Ebay is pretty much faceless though. On here were represented by the things we say in other parts of the forum. many of us are friends in real life. Ive made tons of friends ive either met or plan to meet up with in the future. I would not and I doubt anyone else would spread misinformation on prices. besides a price check thread would fix this.

Actualy, I'd rather buy my games from Fujita than from anyone else. I've bough 18 games from Fujita and all of them were very well packed, in aweseome condition, very clean and worked perfectly. All of these games came with their copied artwork and sometimes PCB feets. I've bought 7 games on gaming forum such as neo-geo.com and shmups.com and I had one boot, one non-working PCB and 2 PCBs with graphic glitches. Not to mention that sometimes, the packaging was a real joke. I've got a completly squeezed (U) PCB from Australia, the box was too small but thanks god that the PCB worked well.robivy64 wrote: dealing with the asian resellers can be a bit of a gamble. .
I have only ever sent out MVS carts but there wrapped like there fucking glass. If i ever was to sell PCBs I would wrap them how I expect them to arrive to me. Thats wrapped and stuffed and then put in a box so there not moving about.

oor just about anyone who shops with yaton on ebay will get some random box. i recall discussing a tampon box was used but I cant recall if we were joking or it actually happened.jpj wrote:always reminds me of pang receiving MD carts in a box of cereal from some seller on n-g

I know people who have had MVS carts sent in the flimsy bubble wrap envlopes only to find the case distroyed on arrival from ebay.
I am toying with the idea of having Chinese take away boxes branded with my logo for my shirts when my site goes live lol

Yeah but a sales thread is for sales.Michaelm wrote:I rather see some ocasional arguments and bitching about then a too regulated forum.Arguments and bitching can be fun ! Regulation never is !!
off topic is for off topic. If I put an item up for sale I dont really want people arguing in my sales thread about if the price is right or not I just want to sell it. How many sales threads have been locked because of bickering?
