Weed always leads to metaphysics, astronomy, ghosts, or an episode of little rascals.

^^lol, Mayan Doomsday prophecy.

it's already known that the Earth will align itself with the center of the galaxy on that date. What can happen with that event is unpredictable.

Microsoft and Apple will merge, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch will make a comeback, Duke Nukem Forever will be released, the popularity of Spongebob Squarepants will finally be explained, and Jeff Foxworthy will get yet another show.

I don't know what the current argument is why this is so, but it seems generally accepted that "space" that the universe hasn't expanded into yet isn't part of the universe yet. There's an argument that time and such don't apply where the universe hasn't expanded.

To give an idea how big the universe must be, you'd need to be able to travel much faster than the speed of light to get to the edge of it (and of course if you traveled "outside" the universe you'd just become its furthest edge). Which means that, unless you can travel faster than the speed of light, you'll never see the edge of the universe. Looking far into the deep reaches of the universe with telescopes to acquire ancient images of the universe as it was billions of years ago is the closest you'll get.

Sooner or later, our Earth will get sucked into a black hole. Then what'll happen?

Reruns of The Andy Griffith Show will finally come to an end, the Vogons will be able to build that hyperspace expressway, and perhaps most importantly, everyone in the world will get a lot closer... literally.

 Yeah. But no one, not even scientists or expert astronomers, know what happens to something when it enters a black hole.

This is very true. Our current mathematics and physics simply fall apart once you get near the singularity. Despite that lack of knowledge, we know something happens to all the matter that "falls" into a black hole.

Heh. Fifty years or so from now, scientists will probably have several good theories, along with potentially new math to try and back it up. Then they'll be rolling their eyes at our current apparent ineptitude... much like our current scientists scoff at the ones who said the Sun revolved around the Earth

Minor aside here. I don't want to bombard everyone with it, so quote it if you want to read it...

That's actually part of the reason I continue to stand by my whole known/unknown universe thing from earlier in this thread. We don't know what caused the Big Bang, what exactly dark matter is/does, and so forth. Up until a few years ago, we thought the universe was progressively slowing down as it expanded. Now they say it's progressively speeding up. As such, when you consider how wrong science has been in the past, and how we as a species have had to adjust our understanding of things due to new discoveries, I honestly can't take the whole "nothing before t=0", or "our Big Bang is it" mindsets completely to heart. I understand why these arguments exist, and how they were generally formed, but science has had to be corrected in the past, and still has a lot to learn. Here we are, talking about black holes as fact, when thirty-plus years ago, scientists where telling us they didn't exist... that they were likely just fiction. So, I may catch some shit for my current stance on the known/unknown universe thing, but until someone shows me conclusive proof to the contrary, I see no reason for it to not be possible.

Anyway, I'll stop harping about that before I get temp banned or something.
