I just noticed the Japanese on the CP in the pics from the first post...
So I guess the Vortex manufacturers got cabinets from Japan, and either gutted existing games or got empty cocktails...strange. Well, maybe not so much.
Whatever happened to this cab? Another vote here for leaving it alone and just tidying it up where needed (which doesn't mean painting it, etc). If you do need anyone to come and check it over, P-man knows more about Taito cocktails and Space Invaders hardware than anyone else I know - top dude.
Given that it's dumped, I wonder why it's not in MAME yet, I'd love to play it. Is it going up for sale?
My mother is the rightful owner of the cocktail. She spoke with Firebug about it and I think the outcome of that conversation was that she feels attached to it. She would consider it being done up, but I don't really want to pay for that to be done. To be honest its in our garage gathering dust. For me its in the way, but I can't sell it on because my mum won't let me. I think she feels its worth a lot.
The pictures give a false idea of condition. The coin slot is not attached, I just shoved it in there for the pic. The legs have rust although its nothing that can't be sorted. The coin box is missing. P2 side is malfunctioning where the ship just rotates 360 degrees constantly. Video and audio are good, p1 side is good. I tried to take it apart once but the screws are in impossible positions so I gave up.
I don't know why people are dying to play it, its just asteroids with odd shaped ships. Its not worth my time talking about it any further. It will probably stay in the garage for another 20 years.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Because it's a piece of arcade history I haven't personally experienced yet, that's why. I'm more interested in that than the next Cave game, by far. Shame it's suffering in a garage
You're not American, bloodflowers, you're not supposed to care about some old arcade game made in the US.
@ Neorichie:
You want another cocktail table? I'll give you a Stratovox, you just gotta pay a bit to get it shipped...plus a "handling fee" of oh a few hundred (That's a discount!)
