Well - LGB has inspired me via PM to look into this a little more, and reminded me how little I know about Touhou, so perhaps I was wrong with that statement, but Mamonoro still doesn't appeal to me too much.spadgy wrote:I can see the Tou-hou analogy holds true from the limited bits I've seen.
However, with all these things I keep hearing about Out Zone, maybe I need to go and have a look see if I can play that, and then take another look and this newfangled Mamonoro...
EDIT: OK - Out Zone looks awesome - why I've never given it attention I don't know, but my interest in Mamonoro has piqued a little!

Outzone? hah if it is even half as great as outzone itll be a smash hit!
personally i dont see any resemblance between the two...
(spadg, if you dont have it already - BUY OUTZONE NOW!)

the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..
Out Zone would have been good if they made it into a proper shmup instead of this shmup/run&gun hybrid.sven666 wrote:Outzone? hah if it is even half as great as outzone itll be a smash hit!

It is powerup of laser.
But a ground based one. I have a special liking for ground based shooters of all kinds, especially the way they let you feel as part of the environment.CIT wrote:No, because then it would have just been another Tatsujin.320x240 wrote:Out Zone would have been good if they made it into a proper shmup instead of this shmup/run&gun hybrid.

.. it looks pretty much exactly like radilgy & kauros to me??
and outzone is perfect as it is, like CIT said, take away the ground element and you have tatsujin, dogyuun, vimana, VV, etc etc..
a little off topic maybe but hows fixeight?, never played it myself, is it worth tracking down?

Thirding Outzone being perfect the way it is. The scrolling not being fixed also gives you the option of trying to either speed run through the game or letting you milk for extra points along the way, depending on how you feel that day.
All I've heard of FixEight is that it's a big disappointment in comparison, sadly.

Do you mean that letter 'C' which you will accidentaly trip over each time you play?LGB wrote:There is always that letter "C".320x240 wrote:But a ground based one. I have a special liking for ground based shooters of all kinds, especially the way they let you feel as part of the environment.
Of course Fixeight is even worse in this repsect. Cave... eh Toaplan fanboys will call it a feature I guess...

I don't see why it wouldn't receive a port. I suppose MileStone will opt for the Wii, given that they ported their other three shmups to it (unless they have a stack of GD-ROMs hidden in a closet somewhere).clp wrote:i bloody hope illvelo gets a port theres 5 new videos on youtube of the stages it looks crazy .
It doesn't look a thing like either one. The only thing I can see that they borrowed was the individual weapon leveling from Karous. The doll system reminds me of the option mechanic from that shooting level in Gunstar Heroes. The bonus stage system looks really obnoxious though, constantly breaking up the levels. I guess you have to trigger all of those bonus levels and be successful in completing them to trigger the TLB (cause the player in those Youtube vids certainly didn't).sven666 wrote:.. it looks pretty much exactly like radilgy & kauros to me??

seriously, anyone heard of anything? strange (and a little worrying) that there isnt a single release in the pipe as far as i know atleast..

I'm in Tokyo now, playing A LOT of games, and the only ones that have sucked so bad that I've actually just walked away from the game before using my credits are this and some shitty light gun duel game. Mamoru-kun reminds me of a cross between Guwange and well, Commando 3, but with totally lame doujinesque graphics and boring level/enemy pattern designs. I wouldn't want to mention OutZone or Gun.Smoke here, they are great games. Shock Troopers.. well they are shit.
And since Chou Aniki was mentioned: There was a small section in Comiket dedicated to Chou Aniki merchandise ;D The legend still lives

First post here.
I have always been interested in shmups but couldn't find a place to talk, but managed to find this forum through Google.
I wonder what Treasure is doing right now. I thought they working on the spiritual sequel to Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga, and will feature 3d graphics 2d gameplay scrolling shooter way back in 2006. Last I heard, they postponed development of the new game to work on Ikaruga XBLA. So I wonder if the project is back on track. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3162888
