R-TYPE '87 is imo the Shooting Refference! It was simple waaay ahead of its time back then. It will always be my favourtie Shmup! (Arcade / PC Engine Hucard)
Now im kinda into Pulstar which has similar Gameobjects like R-TYPE. Was PULSTAR actually programmed by those who created the original R-TYPE or a t least some of them ?

Speaking of Gradius, I recommend all of you try out ovine's remake of nemesis:

Worth it for the music alone.

Wow, i justy played that "nemesis" remake. And as a big fan of Konami shmups and Gradius I must say it sucks hard.
The music is weird orchestrated stuff (i like the Gradius chiptunes better), they replaced the moai music by the stage 4 volcano music and they removed the pre-boss dodging music.
you can only take 4 speedups and with 4 speedups Vic viper goes at the speed of about 2 speedups in the real Gradius. In short the ship is slow as hell. Also the options don't shoot missiles, there seems to be no rank, wich means it's very easy when fully powered up (and that was at the hardest difficulty setting).
It's just a bad tribute.

Aye, you're probably right, mate. I'd spent so long playing R-Type that when I tried for a 1CC in earnest it didn't take very long at all; I just hadn't taken that into account earlier. :pEh... the original requires a larger time investment than III. IMO, III's got the most forgiving difficulty in the series. Even the backwards scrolling section takes very little time to memorize, and if you really need a crutch, the Cyclone Force makes things a lot easier.
I definitely agree that III is nowhere near as tough as people generally seem to believe, though...

Hehe. You do need some serious patience to get past that, but it's just trial and error and with the unlimited continues it's do-able. That's probably the toughest bit of the game, maybe along with a certain section of the last boss that had me tearing my hair out recently when I was trying to beat the gameDjango! wrote:God damn that section.shoe-sama wrote:lol R-Type III backwards scrolling section
