yojo, did you already manage to full-chain Phase 2? I´m curious to find out if the trick did work for you...

Cabinet - 0.050.099.270 - 3-3 - IFUMI - 3027 Hit

I recently tried my hand at Original Mode, and I´m a bit dissappointed...
It´s much easier than Arcade Mode and you can totally rape the hit counter.

Cabinet - 0.051.081.290 - 2-3 - IFUMI - 3124 Hit ( )

I appologize for being out of place, but this seems like the best place to ask: what's the difference between the Arcade and Original modes? I noticed VTF-INO is starting to release some some Dreamcast videos to follow up his Arcade playthrough, link here.

I assume the first score to be your new high in the standard mode, right!?
I shall replace your current score with that one. If I am wrong let me know!

Would there btw be interest in a seperated "Original mode" table?

Well, Arcade Mode plays just like the Arcade game and DC version, minus the slowdown.
Original Mode is basically the same, but there are some additional scenes where you fight small swarms of popcorn and mid-sized enemies; the first 3 phases have slightly altered and/or revised bullet patterns that allow higher hit combos. The Original Mode also features a remixed soundtrack and presumably a different ending sequence, although I haven´t seen it myself yet.

Another question to all who play the DC version :
It seems that there are no polygonal buildings in the background for 2-3 on Order Field, although screenshots and videos from the Arcade version show that there should be some... the GC version is apparently lacking in background detail here. Is this also the case with the DC version?

I can't tell you right now; I am paying too much attention to the bullet patterns. 2-3 is usually when I enter 'panic' mode and lose almost all of my life trying to dodge this insane pattern. I'll try to pay attention next time.

Regarding the chain in 2-2 I can't seem to get the timing right. when the boss goes out for lunch I try to lock-on on one of his last green bullet, but my scan does not register on it  . It is consistent, I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Hm. You´re playing the DC ver, right? Maybe it´s because of the slowdown? I won´t know.
The thing is, since I use exclusively Ifumi´s craft, I am used to catching many bullets in one large "swoop" while dodging the purple ones with her satellite shield thingies, so I always wind up at the extreme right of the playfield almost automatically, catching the last few bullets with the shields. Then I use two or three lock-ons to delay the combo meter while moving to the left to the point where the boss will appear and becomes lock-able. Once I have him, I hit the field change button, engage a new set of shields and slash away at the blue turrets on the boss' head.
That´s how I do it. My hit counter is at around 800-1000 hits at the end of 2-2.

I think I´ll have to do research using the other two ships (though I can´t imagine how to do something similiar with Jinn´s craft, what with his strange lock-on and strategically useless wing-layer...).

Yep, I am using the DC rev. The issue of not registering the bullets also occurs (for me at least ) at the beginning of 2.3 when the boss morph into its second form. I'll try with your ship; might take me a while to get there though; I am too used to HAL...

Got this game 2 days ago, loving it so far. While my score is nothing great yet, it'll at least fill that open spot in the Top 10. :)

2-2? i can see how a combo would be easy on that one, considering the boss spews out a firework display every 5 seconds... that's a fun battle, i always play that one on chaos mode. ^_^

Congratulations on the major score jump HLC! :D

Shame you send me one place closer to the bottom of the list though! :?

Could you please confirm you score as the picture isn't clear enough for me to read the score.
I have read it as: 10.918.300.
I'll add this score to the table. If this is wrong then please let me know.

Onigiri - 31.467.380 - 2.3 - Ifumi - 2213

My current high score list

I'll try to keep that updated as I beat my scores. I really fell out of this on the DC despite loving it all to hell, because of the painful load times you encounter constantly while restarting. I grabbed the PS2 release and dumped it to the HDD, and I'm able to take it seriously again.

Edit: Not playing defaults, sorry. Jacked up the difficulty to max, but didn't touch the extends or shields count.

For no particular reason I deceided to take this thing out for a bit...

BulletMagnet - 14,772,760 - 2.1 - Ifumi - 1675

Finally getting the hang of the chaining thing...managed to keep it alive all through stage 1, and then, of course, ROYALLY screwed up on the next section...still happy to have done this much though, heh heh.

Just popped in this game again for shits 'n' giggles. Attempted to full-chain Phase 1 again, and...well...yeah.

Skyline - 32.240.570 - 2.1 - HAL - 2695

HOLY PENIS

Dreamcast version, BTW. Woulda gotten to Phase 2.3 at the most, but I went to go milk Meta Cubes on 2.1 for some odd reason.

Great score Skyline! :)

Cabinet's still the undisputed high score king of this board though.
Will someone be able to dethrone him?
Only time will tell, but it's nice to see people are still playing this much underrated game! :)

Also maybe the very recent release of the Gamecube US version will bring more players to the table. Does it feature an "arcade" mode or whatever it is named that is (no/less slowdown aside) exactly the same as the DC/Arcade version? Should I make a different table for it if this is not the case (to keep an honest/equal opportunity table)?

I made it to the "CAUTION" sign on stage 2. I don't know if that is still stage 2 or stage 2-2.

Hopefully, I'll get a better score soon.

Kazam! New high score! I'm really enjoying this game. It got dissed pretty hard on this forum and I didn't expect it to be very fun.

Glad to hear you enjoy the game Andi! :)

This once more shows that judging the quality/fun of a game just by the popular opinion doesn't always do the game justice.
One always has to try himself before passing final judgement.

Hopefully more people will try it themselves now they hear from more people
actually enjoying it. :D

I'm starting to like the scoring system on Chaos Field. At least the ship location isn't that big of a deal. (being able to draw in the cubes) GC Arcade Mode score btw.
