Ok then, but it is about $35, plus Espgaluda, and I'm already over $100.themachinist wrote:I don't think it is. I reccomend swapmagic to anyone who doesn't want to throw down another $200 for a jps2 when they have a perfectly functioning us ps2 for import playingdave4shmups wrote:In any case, Swap Magic is taboo on this site..

True, I think I'll get it! But what's this I've read about imputing codes for JP games? Do you have to do that for all of them, or is it just swap and play?MX7 wrote:As oposed to $250 for a JP console and ESPGaluda.

Swap Magic isn't taboo, per se, but it does have more shady uses that I won't go into (but you can prob guess). However, if it's just being used to play imports, then that's fine. It's all I've ever used it for, and I've bought a shit tonne of new JP PS2 games since I've been using it, so it's actually aiding the 1st hand videogames market, which is the only way developers will see any of your money. Hooplah!

True, same could be said for my modded PS2. The only reason I got it modified though was so I could buy new shooters from Japan, Cave particularly.
EspGaluda is an excellent shooter and well worth the investment btw.
Although I'll freely admit that my opinion may be moot to you because I friggin love DOJ

All I know is that threads have been locked on this site for asking about mod chips and devices like the Swap Magic. But I have no intention of using any devices like these to copy games; I've never even burned a CD-ROM in my life. I just want to play imports.Sycada wrote:True, same could be said for my modded PS2. I don't hate DOJ, it's definitely got enough firepower to keep me interested, even if can't maintain a long chain. I was thinking about Radirgy on the PS2, but I read a review of it on Play Asia that said that the framerate is about half of what it is on the Dreamcast.

Is it really the case, then?orange wrote:if this is really the case then don't get the ps2 version, the dc version is as smooth as silk and it runs beautifullydave4shmups wrote:I was thinking about Radirgy on the PS2, but I read a review of it on Play Asia that said that the framerate is about half of what it is on the Dreamcast.

probably is the case, yes as the ps2 port of chaos field also had an atrocious framerate and both games run on the same naomi hardware and are both ported by milestone themselves (who sadly don't seem to care too much about quality control for their ports).
the gamecube version runs the smoothest of the three 'last gen' ports of radirgy (this also true for chaos field, btw). i don't know how the wii version compares to the gc-version other that the wii version is apparently lacking the manpuku mode (that is found in the gc port).
i don't clearly recall what the okawari-mode was like in the ps2 version / how it differed from manpuku-mode but i seem to remember the differences weren't all that profound... but like i said i don't clearly remember.

Okawari is... well... a hard mode. That's all there is to it, I thinkeretsua wrote:i don't clearly recall what the okawari-mode was like in the ps2 version / how it differed from manpuku-mode
Also, yeah, the PS2 port of Radirgy is slow as balls. Never played the DC or GC ones to compare, but they can't be worse than that.

Understood. Well, the Swap Magic option is out for me, because I have an SCPH-77001 PS2, and would need this set of tools:orange wrote:i would've answered this but i've never played the ps2 versiondave4shmups wrote:Is it really the case, then?

There's no way I'm taking even a single screw from my PS2, and putting it back in, so it looks like I'll have to get a J-PS2 if I want to get into games like Espgaluda.
