I must admit, I thought that this was an old 'april fool' when i first read this thread.
I've so far shelled out for the 'Last Hope' Dreamcast version and now the NeoGeo CD version.
So, i'm looking forward to DUX- why the strange name though? Whats the meaning behind the name?? is it some sort of Latin name- meaning leader or something??
Anyway- count me in for a copy- it looks interesting and I love 'R-type' shooters so i'm happy.

Mee too
Dynamite Dux- the very first thing I had thought of. I had pictured this possibly being a Paro type shooter with a duck. So far it looks great, especially with the background made slightly darker in The Coop's first edit.

I'm afraid you have to play the game to understand this.

It's out of question that Soniqman and NG:DEV.TEAM will collaborate again. However, this time the music will be done by another very talented musican. While the soundtrack is not finished yet, it's already a great listening experience and will suite the game perfectly.
Will this Neo geo project once again be ported to DC too btw?

I've figured it out!
Folks, remember DonPachi and how there was a mechanical bee as the true final boss? Well, this game will have... A PAIR OF MECHANICAL DUCKS FOR ITS TRUE FINAL BOSS!
Hey! DUX looks pretty good in my opinion, and for that price, you have another buyer in the list here, for sure.
I prefer the first dark backgrounds pic too, better than the second/darker one, and as somebody said before, Chris Hüelsbeck would be perfect for the music. He is one of my favorites musicians in videogames history.
For some reason, the "plastic" looking of the game reminds me a game called Project Number 3, and I simply love it!
doodude wrote:What about other levels? Will it change up as drastically as say an R Type? Any screen shots of other levels available yet?
Do you mean graphicly or gameplaywise? In both terms every stage will have it's own flavour but of course will keep the overall style. Some screens of the other stages will come soon.
Not that its needed most of the time but how about the story line?
Naturally there will be one but nothing to make a book out of.

Not sure about that but it has to be jacket which suits the game to the most, so while I'm currently tend to a free layout there's still hope for a japanese one. Actually, the only thing that speaks against the japanese one is, that there most likely won't be a spinecard. Those are to complicated to produce outside Japan, so it would increase the production costs which isn't conform with the curent price tag. You can't have it all.

Well that calls for a DVD style packaging then.
Karous/Under Defeat/Cosmic Smash style...
Would still look officially endorsed and you can make it japanese style all you want without any extra costs (I think)...
Anyway... bookmarked the DUX blog and hope to be able to keep track of this.

Why would you want to it look officially endorsed when it's not.
The same reason as why they made Last Hope look as similar to an official release as possible... credibility and making it more attractive to collectors as well.
If RHE can, he should go all out with a new, striking design.
Well of course he is the one who decides about this stuff and he should do as he pleases. I'll get it anyway.
I'm in!!!! Anyone that knows me knows that I'm vert over hori anyday. In fact I'm just not a fan of horis. Unless they are what I term a Cute-Em-Up hori and this looks like it's right up my alley.
My only question is when? I've been excited over a few DC homebrew shooters in the past, only to find they ended up in development hell.

I've decided to put the game into a clear jewel case with silver borders. So the game would still fit someones collection and look good without a spinecard.

Around july.

It's a shame the Drill was canned if you ask me. They didn't even had proper reasons for canning it but maybe they're now biting their asses that they did that.
Nervertheless, there's no way to hell for DUX. Even if it will be delayed, which I don't hope, it would nonetheless came out at any another date.

You're damn right it's a shame. What a promising looking game Drill was. Good to see you'd rather see a game to the end.
