everyone must see dark star.. a movie about how boring space really is.

silent running is also a cool sci-fi movie with a hippie twist :)

Anyway, no one's mentioned The Planet of the Apes. Best movie ending ever, unfortunately universally spoiled now.
Yes the Planet of the Apes original is awesome. The music score is perfect, really creates the atmosphere. The film is powerful, with the message being just as relevant today as it was in the late 60s.
The Burton remake is yet another remake that should not have happened  . As much as I like Mark Wahlburg he trundled through a planet run by Apes like he was going down the local WalMart - no tension, no fear, nothing.

Not quite Sci Fi, but I've just watched I am Legend. No spoilers but its just copying a couple of UK films; 28Days/Weeks and the Descent. Nothing special I'm afraid :? .

Galactica's RAZOR film is just a filler for the fans for the large gap between Seasons 3&4. Again nothing special and the lame Aliens quotes "Knock it off Hudson" and "Stay Frosty" just fall flat. I was expecting a "Saddle up Apone!" :? .

Robocop hasnt been mentioned yet, neither has Alien Nation, which is pretty good in an 80's way, and generally gets forgotten about (this is completely different to the crappy 90's tv show with same name)..

never heard of soylent green before, might have to check it.

ive heard of zardoz before, but only because of the Ed Rush and Optical drum & bass track of the same name :)

So its a remake of a remake - Great! That really sums up the laziness and lack of creativity that is the 00's  .
Rotten Tomatoes gave it 63%.
I give it less. It throws up nothing new, nothing that hasn't already been put on film. I guess there's been such a low standard in Hollywood films in the last few years that a mediocre film can receive a better rating than it deserves.

I TRIED to watch I Am Legend yesterday. I fell asleep somewhere after Will Smith loses his dog in the dark place. However i did find Starship Troopers 2 in the 5 dollar bin at Wal Mart yesterday, which rules. Normally i don't shop at Wal Mart, but i had a 25 dollar gift card.

Fans of original series should be banned from watching remakes. They are fundamentally unable to appreciate a successful remake. I've never seen the original series, and the remake is by far some of the best TV i've ever seen (along with Dexter).

I have no doubt there will be another BSG remake in 20 years that will make me nostalgically moan about about how bad it is compared to 2003's remake. But that's not saying anything objective for new fans.

BSG

Post by DEL »

unsane - I only wrote one line about Galactica's RAZOR. The full story is that I loved the BSG new series intro and series 1 & 2 (new series). Series three got bogged down in character infidelities and generally lost the plot. RAZOR stars only a few of the principle characters and seems a bit of a rush job.
I am a fan of the original series and I avidly follow the new series, I just hope they can get back on track.
The Cylons keep saying "What has happened before will happen again". I can't help but feeling that this is a reference to the fate of the new BSG - Will it lose its way like the canned Galactica 1980 series when they reached Earth and didn't know how to continue?

Ah that's cool. I was blinded by your page 1 comment, which wasn't as glowing as the above:

I'm not judging the original, i'm only judging the new series. And it is mind-blowingly good. :D

^The new one is still good, even if Starbuck is not likeable and swallows her lines like the Chief. Maybe she should just swallow the Chief - that would be more watchable.

Oh, and I second Logan's Run. Gotta watch it again, must be twenty years since I last saw it.

Time has not been good to Logan's effects (granted, they were considered outdated when the movie came out), but the story is strong as ever.
Weren't they remaking it?
And why hasn't Bioware made a rpg based on it?

Yeah it looks like they were remaking it. I hate the idea of remakes of course, for the simple fact that they are lazy moneyspinners with no original thought. The visuals and script are already there to copy, tweak and fob-off onto today's younger generation. Its the same in today's mainstream music industry.

One good thing is that the originals are better 99% of the time :D .
With the possible exception of the new Dawn of the Dead and the new BSG.

I scanned the thread kind of fast, but didn't see Solaris (the new one). I thought that one kicked ass. Super heavy classic sci-fi. It reminded me of ray bradbury's work a bit. Great pace, great sounds, great themes.

that movie is kinda crappy but i like watching it for some reason. i got the uncut dvd a few months ago...
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I got to watch The Omega Man yesterday and enjoyed it quite a bit. Exact same story as I Am Legend and the same character.

Things that made me LOL:
The abuse of the word 'brother'
Robert Neville likes to take his shirt off a lot
The Amish,... Erm,... Mutants...

Now the episode of the simpsons with the nuclear holocost makes sense to me :D

Anyone know if theres movies similar to westworld? I like the idea about robot themeparks where the robots go mad
