Cool, thanks EOJ!

I sure hope the graphics of GWG on Wii are on par the graphics of the XBL game. I just love those wormhole effects.

Yeah I thought about that but I am afraid of getting jacked by some hidden firmware update or something and it's still a pain in the ass to mod a Wii.

It really isn't hard unless you have one of the newer Wiis. I had this person do it for me and it took 10 minutes.

Just realized Geometry Wars: Galaxies is on the DS, so I might check it out.

depends on what you like or how MUCH you need. Following games on Wii are pretty awesome:

-metroid prime 3
-mario galaxy
-resident evil 4: wii edition
-zelda:twilight princess

- already huge virtual console library
add to that huge user base and the fact that many developers are beginning to commit themselves for Wii, and you have pretty good investment on your hands..

On the other hand, if Fps shooters are your only interest, Xbox 360 is definitely better.

It's moreso that there just isnt enough OUT yet for it, honestly.

I guess it hasnt "hit it's stride" quite yet. Alot of interesting stuff COMING, but it's not quite there yet. My own purchase of the thing wont happen will Brawl comes out.... right now, there's not QUITE enough that I want on it.

I do have a 360, though..... lol, but I dont usually do FPS games whatsoever :P That thing has an odd reputation for those because of stupid Halo, but it's got so many OTHER things on it that dont get enough attention. I have quite alot of games for it, not one of which is an FPS.

As shmuppy things go, right now Im enjoying Mutant Storm Empires on that, a game which HATES ME. Fun as heck, but HATES ME.

And waiting on Omega Five, which ISNT FREAKING OUT YET, ARGH.

I'll get a Wii in February likely, but I'll end up with a PS3 before that (the fact that the Wii is SO HARD TO FIND isnt helping, lol.....)

Geometry Wars on Live Arcade or whatever looked retarded, but this has levels. And a stylus.

I just bought a DS and want a shooter for this pos.

From what I heard, the DS version plays at 30 instead of 60 FPS, but still plays well. I heard the stylus control works, but it has button firing too. I also heard the DS version may have some slowdown. Graphics are inferior to the Wii and 360 Geometry Wars games. All of the levels from the Wii version are included. It still has Retro Evolved too.

i like it so far... its not as "fancy" as the big bros, but it looks and plays pretty good... the stylus control of the firing its pretty spot on, havent really tried with the buttons yet, and dont think i ever will, since playin it with the stylus its like playin it on PC with a mouse.

thumbs up from me.

I kinda like the no bullets aspect(although one of the new enemies does fire heat-seaking projectiles at you), it makes the game unique. Plus, this game throws a shit ton of enemies at you. Moreso than any shmup I've ever played. Bullets or no, Geometry Wars: Galaxies is no less frantic than any other shmup. .

I caught this thread a bit too late- but there are plenty of good things on Wii (as ppl have already mentioned). I'm curious as to what part of Wii is a failure?

Back on topic- I'm waiting on that new Thrustmaster wireless controller to get here so I can play this game more. The classic controllers are just too small for me. The graphics are not up to par with 360 either- but for what it is, it's a great experience :)

I've been playing the DS version for nearly a week now, it's all I've been playing and it's absolutely wonderful.

Not sure on the 60/30FPS thing, it's smooth as silk anyway. There is slowdown, but when it occurs I've been pretty damn pleased it's been happening as it's like being in the middle of a random bullet-hell sequence - utterly bonkers and virtually impossible without it. I've had levels where there have been at least 200 enemies on screen at some points.

Incidentally, I don't use the stylus as I find it gets in the way of the screen too much when things get busy. D-pad and buttons work fine and allow me to bring the screen in close and zone everything else out.

The difficulty curve is pretty steep though - the first dozen or so levels are quite straightforward and shouldn't take more than a couple of hours, but after that it gets very, very tough to score gold medals.

It's a vast improvement over Retro Evolved (I didn't enjoy that much).

As far as the Wii version is concerned, I have no idea. I sold my Wii a few months ago. Wii Sports was fantastic and a great use of the control method, but nothing else grabbed me whatsoever.

I have been close to selling mine as well. Funny thing is, I have a 360 and Wii...the Wii has had to be sent off to Nintendo twice for repair/replace where as my 360 has been bulletproof.

Anyways, GW for the Wii does look like it would be fun times. I finally have something besides Wii Sports and RE4 to play. :)

I'm really looking forward to playing this. I've actually been enjoying GW Evolved lately. I still have a terrible high score, though.

Aside from Galaxy, the Wii is a failure system.

Then again the PS3 doesn't have any good games, and the 360 lacks variety.. guess what? This generation sucks.

Odd, there's always people that are gonna say that....

I have a 360 myself. Counting both retail titles, and Arcade download titles, I have about 25+ games on this system. There's ALOT for me to choose from every time I turn the thing on.

And despite complaints about the thing "only having FPS games", not ONE of the games I have for the thing is an FPS. I dont do those on console, I save those for PC only.

Lately, Im beginning to take the stance of "try it out before judging" on all of the new consoles. Even the Wii, right now. I just plain dont HAVE one (though I *might* by Christmas, given a bit of luck), so Im not gonna say much about it.

And I'll be buying a PS3 within a couple days here, as there's very suddenly numerous titles I want on that system.

I think a BIG part of the problem,

is that these dippy companies do NOT know how to advertise this stuff.

Microsoft only advertises the damn FPS games,

and Sony puts creepy babies and exploding Rubik's Cubes in commercials and thinks that'll do it.

Im finding, that if I go to someone and MENTION the games I either have, or will be getting (like what I want on the PS3), they'll very often go "wow, I really havent heard of those, I didnt know the thing had them". It's actually getting a bit silly.

And even with the Wii, I got a job at Toys R Us recently, in the R-Zone section (basically like a GameStop in the store), and we'll get all these shipments of all these Wii games that I have NEVER HEARD OF, due to a lack of good advertising. Im starting to think the thing has more of a selection than I'd previously believed.....

Aaaaanyway, back on topic:

I just picked up Galaxies for the DS.

Hoboy am I loving this.

This takes the stuff that I DIDNT like about Evolved, and fixes them, and then adds piles of new stuff.

Basically it takes Geometry Wars, and finally turns it into what I've always WANTED it to be.

And I did not expect the DS version to control well, but Im finding that it really does.

Im using the control scheme of the D-pad to move, left trigger-thing to bomb, and the stylus/touchpad to aim. I'd thought that was gonna be real awkward, but..... well, about 30 seconds into it, and it's second nature. I have absolutely no complaints about the controls whatsoever.

And the actual game stuff happening on the TOP screen, so the stylus isnt getting in the way of my view.

And yeah, there IS a bit of slowdown, but like nlen83 says, it's only going to happen during the craziest of moments, and the speed doesnt just sorta JERK from one level to another, like some shmups will (thinking of Shikigami no Shiro 2 when I say that..... *grumble*).

I *really* hope that Bizzare will continue this series further beyond this now.

Evolved only did so much for me.... due to it being a bit too simple, and not nearly as much dodging involved as there shoulda been..... but Galaxies is one of the best things I've played in a looooooooong time.

My main issue with this generation is a total lack of titles that are true pick up and play.

1) I do NOT want to be forced through a tutorial to learn how to play
2) I do NOT want to watch unskippable cut scenes
3) I'm sick of control schemes that decide to change the button layout from what has become an accepted standard. I'm not one for remapping the controls as this makes it awkward when playing on another machine.

I could come up with numerous other reasons, but ultimately I'm fed up with games that cannot be completed in one session.

I don't mean stupidly easy games, but ARCADE games. Games that take months to complete for the first time, but then can be forever completed in an hour or less. Anything greater than 2 hours to complete is a single completion only.

I want to start at the beginning every time and know that the possibility of seeing the ending is achievable within that period. With repeated play. Try doing that with something like GTA. A fantastic game, I agree. However it doesn't have anything like that type of challenge.

The 8-bit and 16-bit eras held the last of this in other game genres. On the console, only the puzzler and the shmup remain. And both are done better in the arcade :)

And back on topic.

Galaxies is kicking my backside at the moment. I've done the first few with all gold but the fourth is proving tough. Likely I could get through a bit quicker if I wasn't levelling up my lesser used drones. It's still immensely satisfying. The only down side I've come across is the corridor type levels, I'm not finding them much fun as there's bugger all room to manoeuvre - the swarm levels are a lot more intense.

(And I realise Galaxies goes against my rant somewhat, but it's not a A -> B game!)

This game is muuuuuuuuuuuuch too good.

Holy heck.

I just did the first level with the big "black hole" thing. Swirls everything around and all.

As if those damn blue orb-y things needed to get MORE obnoxious......

More frustrating, need, I think, 6 mil to get a gold on that one?

And I died with 5.9 mil....... lol.

Barely managed to gold that one. Needed a good defend drone!

One that's bugging me is a bit further on, a 25mil gold. My best is 24,987,650

Ooh, I had a great score in this earlier today (this is WAY TOO ADDICTIVE).

In the "Epsilon" system, the planet called "Roceis", seems to be the first place where those waves of flying red squares show up.

Score for that: 82,076,175

Hoboy was I pleased about that, hehe. Third on the online leaderboard when I submitted it.

It was odd, too..... the previous two attempts on that stage, I didnt even hit 4 mil :P

Gahhhhhh, love this game......
