Did any console shmup in the 8-16 bit era save high scores?

Really? I enjoyed Silpheed immensely when I had a Sega CD.

It was more fun to play than it's PS2 counterpart...the PS2 version was just "graphically" superior.

I also love Sega CD Silpheed, and indeed is a lot better than the PS2 version.
