I really need to buy a new monitor so I can play this again. This score was achieved way back in January. I wrote down my points quick and neglected to write down what fighter I was using. All I know is the score, I was on the 1st loop, stage 4:

The US and JP difficulty settings aren't equivalent to each other. A US board on difficulty 4 is very noticeably harder (more and faster bullets right from the beginning of the game) than a JP board on difficulty 4.

Well, I've made some progress today... I finally managed to 1 credit my way to stage 3 boss before getting blasted to hell by its crazy bullet pattern while my right hand started to cramp up like a motherfucker.

Can anyone give me some tips on how I can score more higher other than jewel gathering? I'd like to know, so I can get better at this game. Thanks!

Edit: I should note that the last time I played was when I posted my previous post when I finally broke 1 million points, and pretty much sucked at playing this game. But now I feel accomplished and somewhat impressed that I've jumped from 1 million points to 2.6 million points. Not bad, eh?

Okay apart from the whole Jewelling issue, if you have 3 bombs (or is it 4?, damn) and collect another bomb you will add 10,000 to your jewell count. This enables bonus points for everything you kill. You will see the jewel counter shows a x2 & a +10 next to it. Keep getting bombs and you will get +20, +30 and so on. Using bombs when the screen is awash with bullets will drasticly lower your jewel count and getting yourself killed will -10 from your score bonus. So stay alive and avoid avoid using bombs! (Easier said than done!)

Two things I'm still wondering about though:

1) Next to your score display there's a little animated sprite of the kids from the start of the game waving a flag. What's the relevance of this? It seems to dissapear when you die?

2)The x2 bonus on the Jewel count. It seems to be activated when you get an extra bomb but if you die you lose it? What does it do? How can you keep it/get it back?

There's just too much to this game!

Just destroyed the stage 3 boss, and died against the stage 4 mini-boss... Fuck. I was shaking the whole time, because it was my first time venturing into stage 4 territory. My score is still pretty low compared to those of you who are on stage 4 on US version.

There are 3 large "tanks" on the tracks, the mid boss and two slightly smaller ones, destroy the midboss, the top tank and then the middle tank and the 1up will pop out of the middle one when it is destroyed.

To enter the second loop you have to clear the first one without lose any life and without use any bomb!

No, to get the loop you just have to not bomb more than a couple times. Die as much as you want, tho.

The loop requirements are something like

Bombs + Lives used < ***

Someone can test what *** is by getting to the last boss (using cheats?) and then save state. Use a certain amount of bombs and clear it, seeing if you get to the second loop.
