You're missing a couple of Saturn shmups on your list:

Capcom Generation 4 (Gun.Smoke)
Sega Ages Memorial Selection Vol. 2 (Star Jacker)

And depending on how far you really want to stretch the definition of a shmup, you could also consider:

Tukai! Slot-Shooting (sort of a combination of a puzzle game and Space Invaders)

- Grant
I have Tukai!, but I don't consider it much of a shmup. Fun game though. Especially on the higher difficulties (on the lower ones its way too reptitive and easy). But since nothing ever shoots back...

I thought I had Capcom Generation 4 on there, but I guess I don't. Ah well, 'twas a bit of a rushed page if ya can't tell. ;) I never really expected it to get the attention it sometimes does (and its always a surprise when someone mentions it, heh), at the time it was just something I made so I could keep track of my stuff (granted, I haven't updated it in awhile... ).

Edit: Actually, I guess technically I do have Capcom Generations 4 on there, I just call it Capcom Generation 3 instead for some reason. Though I guess I should add CG3 on there anyways since it has Vulgus and Exed Eyes.

How hard of a game is Layer Section? I think I played the first stage like once. Looked fun enough. I don't feel like devoting my life to clearing something right now though.
It's manageable. Rank gets pretty harsh if you score well, though.
Yeah, rank is a bitch on this game. Especially since your rank goes up when you fire your lock on lasers a lot. Lots of people tell me to suicide on the first or second level in order to keep rank managable but I can't bring myself to do it.

Cool game though.

I wanted to let y'all know that I just bought Batsugun.

Thanks for all your helpful input!

I also picked up Shienryu and Gradius Deluxe Pack from the same eBay seller 'cuz they were relatively cheap and I benefited from a combined shipping rate. Unfortunately, I lost the Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus auction.

This is how I shmup.

Layer Section is an excellent game, and can be found comparitively cheap on ebay.

At some point, you should look into the Paro games aswell... Totally fun.

The "Parodius" series, they play similarly to Gradius but the presentation is on crack (check some of the reviews on the main site). All 5 games were released on the Saturn (one on the MSX pack, the next 2 on the Parodius Deluxe pack, and the last 2 individually).

Batsugun would be more fun if they skipped the first 2 or 3 levels

I'd go for Battle Garegga, but be prepared to have your ass handed to you, over and over and over again

That's like going to an amusement park and riding the best rides first, so when you reach closing time you might be disappointed that all they have left is a pony walk.
