I admit my hours-put-in count is probably one of the lowest on the board. I still decided to throw my theories out there based on 10 years as a game developer... but of course they're still just that, theories. It's perfectly possible that this type of dedicated hardware does all sorts of crazy things, or runs at an abnormal vblank frequency, or who knows what. I have zero experience with this type of hardware so your guess is as good as mine.
As for asking them, it just might work. A lot of developers like programming enough that they'll take any excuse to go off on a detailed account of some obscure implementation detail
Even id's John Carmack has answered my questions on occasion; just make sure it's straight to the point, not overly broad, and formulated in a technical, precise way... and you might get five pages of interrupt synchronization specs back... or maybe not
