I still want a less than optimal PS2 port.
Mushihime-sama PS2?
Dodonpachi Saturn?
I eat this shit up and love it. Bring on the bad ports, I don't mind 'em one bit. Enjoy them quite thoroughly in fact. I'd of course prefer a better port, but, crappy Mushihime-sama > no Mushihime-sama at all, and Ketsui is the same.

Why not the official name? Ketsui Death Label.Limbrooke wrote:Ketsui Lite?

I wish they'd get over it and release a less than perfect port on PS2 or just port the damn thing to a next gen system...
It's not like most the cave ports on the PS2 are flawed ports to start with....

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Man, talk about the very last system I would ever expect a Cave port to appear on. This is crazy cool if it gets released. But why not just port it to PSP which is much better than DS for TATE? NJ proved PSP can handle an almost flawless Progear so surely it'd be more suited than DS for Ketsui. In any case, Mihara is a programmer of unique choices that's for sure and would I ever buy this.
Everything you said. Even if he had to water down the last stage, it'd still be great to have a PS2 port. Guess that's just the perfectionist in him though.icepick wrote:Well, that one caught me by surprise. I've been thinking of getting a DS though, so... by all means?
It seems odd that if they're willing to "remix" the game for DS, why wouldn't they simply do the same for the PS2 port that they've already worked so much on? I suppose it has to do with the rest of the PS2 port being nearly arcade perfect in the other stages, whereas a DS port would perhaps be consistent in its not-arcade-exactness throughout all the stages.
Does the game actually appear adapted to vertical yoko screen format, or is it simply squashed tate? Very interesting in any case; Thanks Arcadia!

Varth on PSP TATE'd seriously plays great (thanks to CC Remixed having analog mapping). Despite ghosting issues, Gradius Portable is very nice to have. Two random examples.GaijinPunch wrote:Playing any shooting game on a handheld (especially Ketsui, and especially the DS) is simply perverse and disgusting.

What's wrong with the DS? DSLite's screen looks pretty great to me. And Micro definatley doesn't give me cramps like what most naysayers say...Dylan1CC wrote:Man, talk about the very last system I would ever expect a Cave port to appear on. I'm with you. As someone who lives in a largely arcade-barren country and is afflicted with a mortgage, a bad console port is my only hope of playing it at all, and is something I'd gladly put up with (like I do every other PS2 Cave title I bought, and enjoy thoroughly).Arvandor wrote:I still want a less than optimal PS2 port.

Did everyone forget there's a port for mobile phone?
Anyway, maybe BS. The Japanese live in the future after all. Not sure about 4 or 5 days in the future though.
Besides, there's a section of the video where the player's thumbs are shown, he's moving his thumbs like mad but the player ship hardly moves.

it won't top the PCB of course but I welcome any Cave shooter to any system anytime, anywhere.
Now I want to see what the actual levels will look like...

I should've changed that to "any game" but that might've been a bit too broad of a statement. I still hate handhelds, regardless of the games on them.Dylan1CC wrote:Varth on PSP TATE'd seriously plays great (thanks to CC Remixed having analog mapping). I can still view it and am very surprised. I would love to see this but what kind of information is this, who put this thing up, who is the player and who is taking the votes when and where?
PSP woul have been the better choice, but oh, well. One general question: why are ports to the PC so seldom. Would it be possible for someone who just has the rom of one of the newer cave games but enough knowledge on whatsoever to develop a PC port (and I'm not talking about emulation like MAME here) or would he require uncompiled sources for the game?
Having so many questions makes me feel dumb

My guess is fear of piracy. The need to mod and/or void your console warranty as well as the cost associated with console piracy makes it offputting. Also consoles make for a much easier platform to support, as there's noly one type of hardware. Port to PC, and there's a near infinite amount of hardware combinations you suddenly need to worry about.RotateMe wrote:One general question: why are ports to the PC so seldom.
Nowhere even close to being that easy. At best you could RGB-screengrab a running board, steal all the graphics, and try to make your own copy (MUGEN style).RotateMe wrote:Would it be possible for someone who just has the rom of one of the newer cave games but enough knowledge on whatsoever to develop a PC port (and I'm not talking about emulation like MAME here) or would he require uncompiled sources for the game?
Unless you are talking about a Cave employee or licensor themselves with access to the game engine code and raw graphics files, and then yes it would be doable. But the limitations there are legal, and not technological.
I'm sure Cave have their reasons. Remember too that shmups are a niche market, and home ports of shmups even more niche. Spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on technology and wages/staff to get a home port out that might only make you half that back in profits is not how a business works. Particularly when new games can be developed on the same budget with the same staff, and sold for thousands of dollars in profit per item to arcades around Japan.
Money is the root of all evil.

On a PS2 port you're supposed to do an almost-perfect job, at least Arika is. On a DS you can do whatever you want, that's the point!moonblood wrote:still, as mentioned, its crazy to think that they'd rather do this than release the PS2 version with some last stage mid-level loading or something...

I don't know, a Cave shmup on DS has to be good news. They'll probably be able to make a decent game out of it even if it'll barely resemble the orignal Ketsui. It'd probably finally convince me to get a DS.
I still think this is some kind of joke, tho. But that's what i said about Muchi Muchi Pork too. Who knows what they're thinking these days..
