I tend to think that any lack of attention that Dragon Blaze's release has gotten stems subliminally from the fact that anyone who buys it is going to end up getting Sol Divide with it, and prefers not to think about it.
Plus the fact that a lot of people have had qualms with the previous Psikyo re-releases on the PS2, and many say that the games which were previously released on other consoles had better ports elsewhere.
In any case, the fact is that if there was a lack of attention to this game before, there sure isn't now.

I don't think so, I think most people around here are willing to buy stuff if it's available and they like it enough...to use myself as an example, I'm hardly a "hardcore" shmupper, and I play stuff on MAME and whatnot, but I've bought a lot of the stuff I've tried out on there and elsewhere, once I'd figured out what kind of a price I'd be willing to pay for it. And with all the talk that's going on around here about how so many have been "suckered" into buying Trizeal to support its developer, methinks the community as a whole will end up buying this too, since it's not available anywhere else. Even I myself, as one who has a lot of problems with Psikyo's work as a whole, will likely get it eventually, though I'll wait for the price to drop some before I do.

There's very likely truth to that. However, if that were entirely the case, Mega Man Anniversary Collection wouldn't have done as well as it did and even non-hardcore sidescroller fans bought into it. And it doesn't explain why people would be interested in Trizeal, which will be as easy to download when it arrives, and not Dragon Blaze.Neon wrote:It's because people will just mame it. People would rather download it than buy it. Sad really.
Same thing will happen to Trizeal, only even moreso because it's on Dreamcast.
Methinks Dragon Blaze gets ignored because it's somewhat old, has a very generic name, and features an obvious fantasy setting that doesn't appeal to sci-fi hardened shmuppers.
But why Trizeal gets the attention when Blaze doesn't can solely be attributed to its status as an older title, emulated for years, and on the PS2. If Psikyo waited until now to release Dragon Blaze by itself (meaning if it never got an arcade version) on the DC, I predict the shmup community would be rushing out head over heels to support Psikyo and buy what might be Psikyo's last console shooter and one of the last DC shooters.

just for the record-PsikyoPshumpPshooterP wrote:dude what do you know..your avatar is shedder...and the only reason i compared these two games is because thier release dates are about the same time and its so funny how Trizeal get so much damn exposure just because its on a dying system..say what you want..But i havent played trizeal and i played DB before..and i can bet if I like Trizeal better then DB, then im dust from this forum..Ill be goneStormowl wrote:chill out a little guys. i think you are overreacting a little regarding the DC vs. anything else stuff and "attention" it gets compared to other stuff. there is a heck of a lot more spam around here, but counter act it by posting intelligent stuff. or just stick to the high score/strategy threads.
i'm probably excited as anyone that dragonblaze is making it to PS2. unfortunately you'll probably never see me in the high score thread because it rapes me so viciously.
as for DB vs. Trizeal, Chaos Feild or whatever...well i guess your just taking up space. you might as well compare an omega to a timex.
i hated the ninja turtles and everything about them. the shred av is a sort of reverse psych thing i guess.
but in response to what you mean, i agree that trizeal is getting more exposure. i never disagreed with what you said. but i can guarantee it probably wouldn't be getting as much exposure as it is were it not for the "HELP US PLEASE BUY OUR GAME" message that triangle service sent out.
that being said, i'm done with this thread.

Exactly. It is hard to pay $60 for something that includes Sol Divide. (I already got that for $5!)BulletMagnet wrote:I tend to think that any lack of attention that Dragon Blaze's release has gotten stems subliminally from the fact that anyone who buys it is going to end up getting Sol Divide with it, and prefers not to think about it.![]()
So I ask those of you who have played Dragon Blaze: Is it alone worth the price tag?

Why would Trizeal be worth $60 and Dragon Blaze not? I think this is what got this whole thread going the way it was. If it was a top tier cave game, people would be lining up, and it seems any new release on the DC gets the same results; but one of Psikyo's very best, never before on a console and everyone starts checking their wallet.professor ganson wrote:

I never see anyone questioning ESPgaluda being $60, why question dragon blaze?

On a related note, apparently in some markets the TMNT arcade game was sold as "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles". Possibly because ninjas were cool in the USA but had negative connotations in Europe or something.Heroes eh? Weird how things you always thought were clear you mis-heard.

This is true. Affected the whole franchise, even the theme song for the cartoon was edited.dboeren wrote:On a related note, apparently in some markets the TMNT arcade game was sold as "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles". On-topic, I think quite a few of us have pre-ordered Dragon Blaze. There simply isn't anything to talk about until it comes out. There are perfectly good resources on DB so it's only natural there's not much discussion and speculation about the gameplay and scoring mechanics. After all, it's not a new game like Trizeal.
And because there aren't videos or even screenshots from this particular release the nitpicky types can't complain about high-res, low-res, fake low-res, scanlines, whatever.
Seriously, the only kind of talk at this point could be:
"Hey BM, still waiting for Dragon Blaze?"
"Yeah. You?"
"Yeah."
"..."
"..."
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

I ask the question because of my ignorance about Dragon Blaze. The game just hasn't been discussed at all frequently since I've been on the forum, so I just don't know much about it. But I am now convinced that I ought to get it. I just need to figure out whether I need it more than I need to fill other serious gaps in my collection: DDP DOJ, ZG2, Border Down...CMoon wrote:Why would Trizeal be worth $60 and Dragon Blaze not? Yeah, you're right. So even though I really shouldn't be spending the money, I preordered DB. I hope there are a lot of dragons in it-- this would really please my 6-year-old.Neon wrote:Yeh, you're gonna have to get them all eventually. Indeed. I've now moved the off-topic TMNT discussion into a separate thread on OT to keep this about the Dragon Blaze & Sol Divide release.Rob wrote:This train sure got derailed. Dragon Blaze, people.

Actually, maybe sol divide is worth some discussion, namely what is wrong with it...
I didn't play it for terribly long and thought it was terrible. What I recall not liking was how proximity attacks were the only way to go (main shot was not powerful at all).
Your attacks didn't stop enemy attacks, so while you were hacking away on someone, they might also be hacking away on you (that's what I remember anyway).
Sort of a crowded feel to the game.
Man, I don't remember much more other than completely disliking almost every aspect of the game. It really didn't even feel like a shmup, more like a hack n' slash with no gravity.
It might be nice to elaborate, since I love the idea of shmups with proximity attacks, but SD pretty much mapped out everything you shouldn't do!

Playing imports on the ps2 is not terribly difficult, so I don't see why it not getting a US release should be an issue.

No, not every game needs an elaborate scoring system (I think Dragon Blaze's passes as "decent" with its tech bonuses and constant availability of extra scoring in coins). Dragon Blaze is just a super refined Psikyo game with quality 2D graphics and unique dragon riding gimmick. I'm not sure if you've played any other Psikyo games, but I can't imagine what you'd think of Sengoku Ace, Strikers 1945 or Gunbird if you think Dragon Blaze is "blah."twe wrote:Anyone else feel this way about DB?
