Improved my score a little bit in the last couple of days:

antares - 1,127,850,000 - Stage 4 - HHH - 74

Still can't defeat the 4th boss...

Gorecki - 481,495,000 - Stage 4 - EEE - 43

My highest score yet, but this was actually a very poor run for me. Didn't get the first extend until well into the first boss. Survived past the level 4 midboss (nasty!) and got caught in a huge downpour of evil looking spam.

I'm only playing about 1 credit of this per month, so I reckon with a little more dedication I could easily double my score.

Nope :P That's me, languishing down near the bottom (I blame my stage 3... no idea what I'm doing on that one).

Don't worry Gorecki, once you get the hang of it the Stage 4 miniboss is cake... his toughest attack might very well be the first (they're all pretty simple) I remember it was only a week or so ago that I thought he was difficult!!

Edit: Bah, I meant stage 3. Stage 4 is easy too... except for that blue bullet attack...

Getting there... I need to get to stage 4 boss without stupid mistakes earlier on... this run had 2 lives lost on stage 3 and one on stage 2 :(

Yamazaki, you always seem to improve your score the same day that I'm ready to beat you! Man, that's not cool

Well Yamazaki, I'm beating you to the punch this time! I'm really proud of this one...

With two very stupid deaths, too!

Nice one! Don't think I'm going to improve my score in the near future. For some reason every time I get a no miss run to stage four I throw it away with stupid, stupid deaths. Grrrrr..........

Actually the same thing happens to me every no miss run I do - my high scores tend to be runs where I died in stage 2 or 3 (by running into the lone bullet on screen  )! I guess my nerves get to me or something in a no miss run on 4st... because if I could just keep my lives, I could maaaaybe beat the boss. Or at least improve my score... 1.35bn is definetly within reach.

Bah, don't tell me that stuff about not being able to improve your score for a while. Knowing you you'll get a 1.5bn soon, haha.

Beware!

I got a new high score last night, despite stupidly dying twice in level 2. Very avoidable deaths, so I'm hoping tonight I can get a good no miss run up to level 4 and post an even better score. Level 3 is a problem only in score; I have trouble getting a high multiplier post mid-boss on the easy route. I might have to check out the hard route.

Level 4 is insane though. So many scoring oppurtunities. I love how a huge spread of bullets can either seem like mana from heaven or hellish death, depending on if you have the slash attack available or not.

This game is fast becoming one of my favourites.

Glad you're getting really into it!!

I had the same problem as you when I used the Easy path of stage 3. I don't know about you but I recall only being able to use the seven barrier slash once to put my combo up to x30 after the mid-boss... really low scoring.

I wasn't going to post this as I know I can do better, but since it shoots me into the top 15 I might as well.

Big improvement, and probably my biggest for a while unless I can experiment and find more rewarding strategies (or beat the 4st. boss... well I can dream right?

Rather messed up stage 4 which gives me some hope for a decent increase soon. Don't get comfortable Carmen! ;)

Heh, I'll keep on my toes.

So Yamazaki, what do you think of the 4st. boss? Real piece of work, isn't he? Bomb spamming allowed me to ALMOST beat his human form!

I've beaten the first form! I suspect that with a practice mode, he'd be quite easy :) I need to save bombs on stage 4 - but this means more seven barrier attacks, lower multiplier and lower score.

BTW, has anyone ever managed a 100% at the end of stage bonus? I'm sure I'm getting everything on stage one, but it never goes over 95%?!?

Hmm... to be honest, I've never tried to get 100%. I should give it a shot today. Maybe it has to do with the path chosen? I usually average 88-91% in my normal 1st. runs.

I finally decided to knuckle down and try to score good at something and in order to do that I needed to play a game that I had a console version of because I have a little more intrinsic motivation that way for some reason.

Is there a way to get your max combo count other then remembering? The table doesn't seem to record it.

What are your average scores after stage 1? At the end of stage screen I normally have in the ballpark of 285mil.

Nope, memory only for max combo I'm afraid! :)

My Stage 1 score is usually around 340 million.

Great! I'm not quite as far behind in the first stage scoring as I thought. I normally have ~50 combo at the junction between paths and just sort of ride that until almost the boss where the popcorn enemies come down in that sorta triangle formation and I use the slash attack on them to refill the counter for the boss. I suppose where I'm lagging behind is in the bullet reflecting.

You may be missing some small enemies or, like Carmen said, it may be dependent on path. Try tapping slash as you're comboing enemies, if you don't do this already. It moves you quickly through the combo and doesn't affect your multiplier. You'll come out of it faster so you'll be able to charge the slash quicker and less enemies will escape when you're comboing. I posted it in the strategy thread but I don't think anyone bothers to look at that.
