Another moderate Lynch fan here. I never thought much of Blue Velvet personally. I prefer Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Twin Peaks and Lost Highway.lynchesque wrote:YES!!! What's your take on Blue Velvet? I think it's hands down the best American film of 80s. Although Raging Bull is right up there...Ooohhh I'm a big David Lynch fan myself.
What does your username mean/refer to? (if it's not obvious)
Gai Daigoji was the nom de guerre of robot pilot Jiro Yamada in the anime series Martian Successor Nadesico. He was only in the show for three episodes, but he made an impression in that short time. I'm actually not much of a fan of the show; just the character. I chose the alternate (but still correct) romanisation Daigohji because there were a lot of people using the other spelling back when I first adopted it. These days I just use it for continuity, though I abbreviate it to Dai at some forums.

That's understandable on BV, considering that some people find it repulsive. But ditto on Eraserhead, that's my other favorite that Lynch has done. I like 'em all really though.Another moderate Lynch fan here. I never thought much of Blue Velvet personally. I prefer Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Twin Peaks and Lost Highway.
I liked Blue Velvet the most out the Lynch films I've seen. The acting really stands out in this one, IMO. Eraserhead is also really cool, but it doesn't make as much sense.lynchesque wrote:That's understandable on BV, considering that some people find it repulsive. Yes, in many of his films it's hard to distinguish dreams from reality. But hey, dreams often do not make sense in our minds; so why should they make since on film. There is a form of consistency there...
Mulholland Drive for example, although well regarded, was chastised by some critics for being too ethereal or incoherent. I believe most of the movie was a dream, ie the death of a dream in the minds eye of a actress obsessed with being a superstar.

At another messageboard, I created the the painfully generic username "Pfloydguy." Yeah, I'm a Pink Floyd fan. Some of the members shortened that to PFG. I happened to be using the Doom guy's face as my avatar, and so the natural progression was to rename myself PFG 9000 in pseudo-reference to Doom's most powerful gun.
In other news, I detest David Lynch and his films with every fiber of my Floydian being.

I'm sure there's a point to all of his films, and I did figure some of it out (like dreams in Mulholland Drive). I think I liked BV better because it was a movie I could fully understand (well, from what I can remember), plus it's got such a unique cheesy but moody 80's feel.lynchesque wrote:Yes, in many of his films it's hard to distinguish dreams from reality. I took it from a band who took it from a murderer named Ricky Kasso that referred to himself as the Acid King.

My high school nickname was "Fro", which was short for afro. Being a "white guy" I have never had an afro (I don't have curly hair), but I always combed it so it would stick straight up, & since it made my head look all round & so forth my friends came up w/ "fro" as my nickname. It stuck. This is the only forum I use FRO on, because that handle is usually chosen elsewhere I post, so every other forum or site I post on I'm known as MetalFRO, due to my nickname & my love of heavy metal.

I believe that thread is http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=9367On my first thread, I wrote:Got the name around the time cd burning was becoming feasible. Every year me and some guys would go to some cabin in Pennsylvania. Friends started looking to me to making entertaining road trip mixes, probably 'cause I was the only one out of the group who apparently was smart enough to only include full songs stolen from old Napster and not put the same song twice on the same disk.
When I first asked my friends when we arrived at the cabin if one of my road trip mixes were up to snuff, they agreed I choose well when it comes to the next track keeping the pace from the last song while keepin' shit interesting. Ha, so not to toot my own horn, but "beep, beep". ahh, I kid, I kid.
But the second year we went back to PA, somebody picked up the case with my handwritten track list. Disgusted to find that I put things like AC/DC, Meat Loaf, Marolyn Manson, Fatboy Slim, Primitive Radio Gods, Garth Brooks, Dokken, N.W.A.. Better Than Ezra, Kid Rock, War, Primus, and the theme song to Shaft all on the same disc, it became a total roast against me after that. So DJ Incompetent was what I was dubbed, and every time I was with those guys when we talked anything about music, that name would stick with me the rest of the day.
I always enjoy that postFrederikJurk on that link wrote:And btw, DJ Incompetent, I would reconsider your name if you want to live from DJing. I mean, if it would be DJ Insane or DJ Infinite, then ok, but DJ Incompetent? You could as well call you DJ Lame or something.
No offense though!

my screen name is just what came to me when i first found the forums a few years ago. it just a coincidence that it is the refered name of a character from a book i've never read.
my avatar, as everyone cool knows, is a portrait of me, because i am, in fact a pirate and a persian kitten.
*MEOW* where is SAM when you need him?
I have no sig whatsoever.
Ramus is a fat coward from Lunar: Silver Star Story. It was the first RPG I ever played back in the day when Sega CD was "high-tech". It basically turned me on to RPGs and sent me searching for more like it. My avatar is a picture of him from the Playstation remake.
(Plus... I kind of look like him if I shave my goatee and put on glasses.)

"Vincere" means to conquer in Latin.
Lost Highway and Mulholland Dr are easily my favorites by Lynch.

Same here-- it was an odd choice. Even my students don't usually call me professor ganson: I ask them to call me by my first name.captain ahar wrote:my screen name is just what came to me when i first found the forums a few years ago.

I just thought mine sounded cool and shmuppy. I thought about shmup-puppy for awhile, because that's what my little circle of friends back home called shmuppers, but decided that having 'shmup' in my title might be a little generic for a shmups board.
It also makes me think of Slush-Puppie, a once popular drink served at convenience stores up until the late 90's and everytime i remember those i get a craving for them. Especially the grape kind. So good. They still have slush puppie machines scattered about but i never see them anymore. See, now i want one again - i'm glad i didn't pick that username.

Shoes are awesome.
I wear them every day omgwtf.
And as this video shows, they make great weapons.
They leave a great impression, if you know what I mean.

Mine stemmed from a conversation I had with friend at a bar. For some reason we were trying to think of goofy first and middle names we could give our future offspring. They had beef jerky behind the bar so one of his potential children's names became Kippered Beefsteak or Kip for short. Going off on a food tangent, one of mine became Savory Pork. I just ended up using it as an online name since then.
