Heh, they are alright, but the touhou series takes the cake, from what I have played. Well...The few patterns that aren't random in Kenta Cho's games are aesthetic (rRootage coming to mind.)
rRootage has some amazing patterns. However, I think that random sprays in Noiz2sa and Parsec47 are somtimes just as beautiful.
Indeed. Although the cool explosions in Gunroar were pretty awesome...but I don't think those count as bullet patterns.

Pretty much any bullet pattern that has more than little, yellow/goldish boring standard bullets (like the ones in psikyo games) looks at least decent.

Yeah, nothing looks shittier than simple white dots. I like how the bullets in Cave games rotate fast, that looks so much better, and somehow they are easier to recognize that way.

On the other hand, rRootage has those rhombus bullets that rotate, and that makes it really hard to make out there center, since it somehow irritates the eye. Those are mean stuff.

Speaking of rRootage, it also has this one Ketsui pattern, which is basically a long string that keeps chasing you. Noiz2Sa has the "trapped inside two bullet stream walls with small independently moving bullets inside", which looks cool too.

And the most mindblowing thing to dodge I`ve ever seen is the stage in Radiant Silvergun, where you`re trapped inside a ship, with moving platforms, huge misslies shooting out, and the whole mess ROTATES around you. I think it was a replay by Ben Shinobi, and keeping the chain alive and still have the concentration for dealing with 7 different weapons was the definite moment I realized how hard this game is.

EDIT: The stage was called "Victim" and the player was ZAT.

I never had any trouble with the rhombus bullets in rRootage. It was always the circlular ones because It would make me think that the whole bullet was a hitbox, not just the light part in the middle.
