Here's my score for Team Drink And Fly.

Malcolm-Team Drink and fly-5,965,890-6-Aryustailm-MAME

I thought I kicked ass until I saw 26,000,000 on the high score board.

Some people have played the game before. 26 million will be nothing by the end of the week. 8)

No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

What is the "break" stat? I get "00" so I figure I might be missing something there.

During performing a charge attack, press B to fire the "defensive" weapon.

My best so far...

The Coop - Team Old Schoolers - 7,552,340 - Stage 6 - Peplos

Somehow I just can't get the combo multiplier system to work for me. The increase in score has always been marginal at best. I'm obviously missing something, but...

I wish this was automated Victoly-style so I wouldn't feel bad about posting multiple scores a day.

This game is great. Not too hard, either. Anyone have a decent strategy for that ambush in the middle of stage 6? Near the hardest part in the game.

Stage 6 is where they put all the hard parts they forgot to put in the past three or four stages.

If you're refering to the section that follows the rotating blades you have to carefully move through, yeah, that spot's a pain.

By the way, am I the only one having trouble finding the "Y" in stage 3?

I think it's from an enemy in the ground hatch before the boss. I think I've got that once, so can't be sure.

Team Apes reporting in another score! But this time it's actually half decent.

_Bnu - Team Apes/Loser - 16,989,730 - Stage 6 - Windina (MAME)

Image

Managed to keep the BONERS chain up this time, but I still get horribly slaughtered in stage 6. I swear those little buttheads that pop out of the holes and shoot bouncing bullets remind me of an old classmate of mine, and he was really annoying. And I still can't get used to the autofire crap in MAME Plus. :( My fingers hurt.

Never played this game before. But after this all I can say is "Awww yeah." You guys are gonna have a hard time topping this one!

Landshark - Buffet - 663,010 - Stage 3 - The square made up of little squares

I suppose you want proof too? It's the only screen that shows up properly. See that? Top Player! I win!
Image

Wow, this game's graphics suck ;)
Image

Ok, when the big spark shoots wedges of cheesecake at you, move.
Image

Apparently the game knows I'm playing on luck.
Image

And in level 3, something covers the screen in little yellow crackers.
Image

Level 2 endboss is interesting. Especially when the big square made up of little squares bounces around the screen changing size and letting out little pink squares =)

You're using the old ROM set that was introduced back when NeoRAGex showed up. Get NeoRAGEx and it'll work properly, or go look for a set that's actually compatible with newer versions of MAME. :)

I like how the loser team has two of the highest scores now. More like false-modesty team.

I expected a sizable number of people to actually read the strategy forums and learn how to make mad scores but I was wrong

Yeah, i was thinking the same...

Edge - Team Germany - 16'102'650 - Windina (MAME)

BTW, I think the difficulty increasing level is a bit messed up in this game. I think Stage 5 is one of the easiest in the entire game, and right after you beat it stage 6 suddenly just wakes you up with enemies from everywhere. And I didn't know Blazing Star was so much fun, I always avoided this game because I thought it's only about chaining.

EDIT:

The week has just begun, I have the feeling that more people will pop up with mad scores. They are still lurking and preparing in their shadows... :P

Well it's still Monday.

But yeah.

I remember being underwhelmed by the competition at the end of the Gradius V contest and there were prizes. Good ones.

Got a little better. I can make it to stage 5 usually before I lose a ship. Stage 6 is kicking my ass with that weird section that makes your ship look like it's moving sideways...
