GaijinPunch wrote:If you have the time, there's some good techno out there. However, you gotta dig like a mofo. I peruse Beatport and on a page of 150 tracks, I will find max 2 keepers. Oddly enough the Indie Dance/Nu Disco section has some really great shit, but the hit rate is even worse.

Official FM has my latest mix non-biographically titled "I Went To Another World and Fell In Love, But It Was Not Mutual and I Was Forcibly Removed."

Not sure what you're into, but it's a good example of what I listen to. 120bpm.... more groove than other elements.
cool man imma check that stuff out when I get home -

in terms of techno in general I prefer 909s to 808s (i.e. I dont really like a lot of what is nowadays defined as 'minimal' - you can kinda tell what sorta stuff I like by the tracks I make - which usually combine hard acidic sound with some type of old skool hardcore/breabeat elements.

UR stuff, D-Jax Up Beats, Harthouse (and esp. Hardfloor) would definitely be my favourite 4/4 stuff, also R&S and Rising High (yep all pretty old stuff ehhe) - and I especially like hardcore which stemmed from the Belgian New Beat (and in turn EBM) type sound.

in general I like kinda 'harder' sounds whatever the BPM, though there are of course exceptions - I love springy slightly distorted 909 kicks.

anywayz these are my tracks:

https://soundcloud.com/raytrace/sets/raytrace6

and these are my mixes:

https://soundcloud.com/raytrace/sets/raytrace-mixes

I haven't done anything in about a year though properly, pretty much this thread and anime in general has taken up all my free time hahaha.

sorry for wandering offtopic as usual.

I watched 08th MS Miller's Report last night, seriously there is NO reason to watch it if you've watched the main series, there is pretty much nothing extra of any value :s.

I like the deeper tech these days. I'll admit, I'm getting old. I used to listen to a lot of what you're describing, and have an affection towards it. However, those tracks are pretty few and far between these days. The events I go to as well, are generally a lot more relaxed than the ones I was going to in the late 90's. I have a few of my old records from that age, but I'll be damned if I could fit them into a mix now. :D

I know what you mean, I had a kinda self imposed hiatus from it though for a good few years so the hardness hasn't become bad for me yet, maybe it will haha.

I was trying to check out http://official.fm/gp but it just kinda brings up a blank blue page? :(

I have been contemplating putting 'Funky Doll' from BC OVA in my next mix actually eheh - it is great I love it's almost Soft Cell melancholic strings.

ep. 3 of Code Geass - wtf where did all that pervy stuff come from? just out of nowhere...

damn I really like the overarching plot so I'll stick with it through this and the fact that the characters faces literally look like some type of freaky fvckin insect...

Alright, seems like everything(?) has been posted for the Rightstuf sale. They'll probably extend it and may possibly add more items, but I decided to just go ahead in case something goes out of stock. A pretty comparable haul compared to last year. Mainly a lot of books and random OVAs that struck an interest.

Agent Aika DVD Complete Collection (Hyb) (Anime Legends) (*) 1
Beast King GoLion DVD Holiday Bundle (S) (*) 1
Crying Freeman Graphic Novel Bundle (Vols 1-5) (*) 1
Dark Cat DVD (Hyb) (*) 1
Demon Fighter Kocho DVD (Hyb) (*) 1
Ghost Sweeper Mikami DVD Collection 2 (S) (*) 1
Ghost Sweeper Mikami DVD Collection 3 (S) (*) 1
Ghost Sweeper Mikami DVD Collection 4 (S) (*) 1
Grave of the Fireflies DVD (Hyb) Remastered Edition (*) 1
Guin Saga Novel 2: Warrior in the Wilderness (*) 1
Guin Saga Novel 3: Battle of Nospherus (*) 1
Guin Saga Novel 4: Prisoner of the Lagon (*) 1
Guin Saga Novel 5: The Marches King (*) 1
Madara DVD (Hyb) (*) 1
To Terra... Graphic Novel 1 (*)
To Terra... Graphic Novel 2 (*)
To Terra... Graphic Novel 3 (*)

Quite a bit of other good deals as well, but most of those I already had. Really wanted to get the Dairugger sets, but seeing as Collection 3 is probably permanently OOP due to some weird shit going on with Media Blasters, I decided to skip. I think I've been waiting on boxsets from them for about three months now, which will probably inevitably be canceled with a big, "oh, so sorry," leaving me with a bunch of incomplete shit just like VIZ. Depressing as well, as I didn't realize the other Guin Saga light novels I didn't have were the only ones VERTICAL put out before canning the entire 100+ run. Somehow the awful anime managed to get 26 episodes. What a damn joke.

ok this isn't anime, but I'm watching it because of anime:

Image

tbh it looks like the sorta thing I'm definitely going to like anyway, nevermind it's influence on anime.

I've just watched 3 minutes so far and it does really feel like Priss and The Replicants :)

actually even chords wise the opening song sounds REALLY like one of the BC OVA ones

in fact it is pretty much exactly the same as Akuma To Tenshi No Kiss...

Oh and wasn't there even the bit where she just rips her head back and starts kinda moshing (well circling her head around anyway). This is really interesting, though obviously NOTHING can even put a minor dent in my love for the Bubblegum Crisis OVAs :)

HAHAHAHAHA - 'Try it again punk!'

^Hell yes. Perfect movie. I think it was the first part of Megazone 23 where you see Streets of Fire on the local theater marquee.

yeah it is great - almost finished now - I knew knew the woman in it from somewhere then I realised she's from one of my favourites; 'The Warriors', then I check up and it's the same director! :)

Also Ry Cooder is a legend - Paris Texas was fvkin ace soundtrack...

Michael Paré was in The Philadelphia Experiment I loved that when I was kid, still do...

Yep, Walter Hill! One of my favorite directors. A page or so back in the 'Movies' thread I recommended a bunch of his movies if you're interested. Glad you dig it!

cool Imma check deffo - the amount of times we watched The Warriors at some house party or other back then when we were wrecked - great times :D

yeah the cinematography and scene setup in Streets Of Fire is amazing - very anime-like (well ok actually obviously the other way around ;) )

Willem Dafoe as Kanuckie/Misfits Fan = brilliant

the soundtrack has a bit of a They Live! feel too, in that it repeats country/blues type riffs in a kinda hypnotic manner, with added 80s drum or pad atmospherics...

have you seen Road To Hell Drauch?

that bit about 'when you sing those songs, you make them yours.' that's definitely in some anime, pretty much word for word - is it BC? SDF Macross? - or maybe Macross 7 ?

the cop who Rick Moranis tries to pay off - I love that actor - he's the leader of the resistance in They Live! and he is also a general in Wing Commander IV :)

the new berserk films. they're awesome. like a lot of you, I thought they looked like shit when first advertised ~1 year ago. they're not shit. proper treatment for an excellent series. they've trimmed
a lot of "fat" off to cram these into movies. 3 movies for the first arc (manga is on arc 4). first two movies are done and presumably 2-3 movies for the other arcs.

The first movie made me puke (3D Cel-shaded vomit). Imagawa's version is better.

Yeah, I'd still like to give it a proper chance, I guess. It looks much better than I initially thought, but I still think a lot of it looks odd. I think my main complaint is that the character movement does not mesh well with the background, giving it a sorta of abnormal, synthetic look to the world within. I really just don't like this style of animation. It just doesn't look right.

second film is suppose to be much better). I watched the first film, went back and watched a couple discs from the art of war box and I appreciate the first film more. it has it's shortcomings. but fuck, so does the anime (images from manga during a battle scene) biggest complaint is the film felt really crammed. imagine watching having never seen the anime. I'm hoping for second arc and beyond films. it's long overdue for berserk fans. I think they'll learn from their mistakes and each film will be an improvement over it's predecessor.

Ho-leeeee shiiiiit.

Are you guys ready for Shingeki no Kyojin the anime to start airing this spring courtesy of Production I.G.? I know I am.

On an unrelated note, the 2nd season of Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls finally got a proper title and a date. That's cool too.

Great news, though they should have picked a designer with a grittier style; typical anime faces don't mesh very well with horror.

At least it doesn't look like absolute garbage like the manga, which is a huge improvement already.

I wound up getting that Mecha Masters set during black friday/cyber monday/whatever. Odd that they had it, especially for such a low price, being it is out of print. Now I can finally watch Genocyber in all its gory glory. Almost bought Lost Universe myself, but decided to hold out. Have you seen it before, bl0x?

I've been watching Full Metal Panic: Second Raid.
Now I just have 1 question: if Kyoani can do something as good as this mecha action series, WHY THE FUCK THEY KEEP DOING THINGS LIKE K-ON?!

DMC is making me laugh so hard, I need more series like this one.
