I personally love

"Your kid will know his dad's so low he'll have to parachute out of a snake's asshole."

Mad Bull's sexual content is a bit uncomfortable (but then again I am a prude), but its over-the-top violence and Manga UK dub more than make up for its shortcomings.

It and Angel Cop, along with MD Geist, are some prime examples of campy, fun 80s-90s OVAs.

But then again my thus-far favorite OVA from that time period has to be New Dominion Tank Police. Gotta love that Metal Slug tank.

yeah I found the sex (well 'R' scenes really) pretty intense, especially the totally flippant attitude to the 'bad cop' guy in the car - WTF?

However, overall it is is just pretty great, so it's worth the wincing I think. Another thing was a bit much was just how badly the Japanese cop gets beaten up, it's really hard to watch I think.

Yeah I'm trying to obtain the 'uncensored' sub (ok .mkv) of Angel Cop but it's gonna take a while so I'll have to wait a while. ;)

So MD Geist actually is good? - Imma check it.

So is New Dominion Tank Police better than Dominion Tank Police ? :o - is that even possible? :D

I might check one out tonight - I'm trying to learn a new animGIF 'technique', but once I get my head around that Imma be anime till sleeptimes ^_^

Don't get me wrong; I do love Dominion Tank Police.

However, its sequel has a far more coherent story, and a lot more focus on Leona, the Bonaparte, Al, and Chief Britain/Brenten. AKA, the things we care about. My biggest gripe with Dominion is how the last two episodes shift all their focus away from Leona and the Tank Police to an uninteresting and plodding subplot of Buaku and that stupid picture he's trying to get back. It's not terrible, but it should not have been the focus - after the big climactic three-way fight with Buaku's gang/Puma Sisters, the Tank Police, and the Red Commandos, things just sort of peter out.

Both have their pluses and minuses - the sequel has a slightly less cool atmosphere going for it, compared to the original's 80s Blade-Runner cyberpunk stuff. It's more grungy 90s stuff, but by no means bad. It also has less of the crazy side characters like Specs and Chaplain, which is a real shame. But it gets points for telling a focused story, and ratchets up the craziness and insane action each episode, building up to one hell of a climax.

I love both, but I kind of prefer the sequel. The soundtrack of the original is [urlhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G46a3h2ls7M]much[/url] better though. But I do love the sequel's opening theme though.

Also, MD Geist crosses the threshold fairly early on, and jets straight into the "holy moly this stupid shit is hilarious" territory.
Also some nice cheesy moments too.

cool - I just watched ep1 of NDTP and I do like it so far definitely, the intro music is super ace, the art is a bit duller or something though, not bad but not as dynamic or something as the original. I know what you mean about the picture story in the original, it did lose focus a bit but I found that guy's story really interesting and tragic in and of itself.

You should check out the original Japanese manga of Mad Bull 34. It was originally published in the weekly manga, Shonen Young Jump Comics back in the early 1990s. Pretty hard-core & crazy stories with MB-43 for a mainstream weekly manga publication back in those days.

For anyone like me who has held off on buying Madoka Magica due to the ludicrious price of the the US release, the whole series just came out on blu-ray here in the UK for £30. It's probably region B only, but I've just ordered it, so I'll let you know if the box says it's region free.

20 minutes into MD Geist (1) - starting to realize this is more Black Lion than Bladerunner...

I never knew 'Hyena' was such a bad insult o_O

'Most Dangerous Script' more like ;)

I'll keep that in mind but if it's more hardcore than the anime it would probably be a bit too much for me... :p

ok finished MD Geist - emmm well I think it certainly deserves it's reputation on just so many levels - just kinda shockingly bad, though obv I still enjoyed it.

I think I'll leave it a good while before I watch part II though eheh...

Yeah, MD Geist is a fun title, but it certainly deserves its reputation as pretty awful--and I don't throw that around too often when describing 80s OVAs. Still, worth seeing once, at least.

Avoid the sequel. It's absolutely dreadful.

Yeah I'll try to, though I kinda hate to leave any 'series' unfinished, so no doubt some night I'll stupidly watch it :p

finished Cosmo Warrior Zero - ok Kai I can understand why you would dislike it, as it's not in the same league as any other Matsumoto stuff I've seen so far, esp. the heavy handed preaching bits and some of the script is just kinda crap, having said that I still enjoyed it overall.

watching Big O episode 5 - really like the whole mood and style of this anime...

I'm looking forward to watching Madoka, it looks pretty decent. But, I think I'm just going to hold off and watch the movies. It sounds like they are just better cuts of the series, with some of the repetitive parts cut out. They are getting a theatrical release in America, although limited. There is a theater near me that usually shows anime movies when they come out, so there is a good chance I might get to see it on the big screen for the first time I watch it (I hope, if not ill hold off and get the movies on dvd).

Has it EVER turned out for the better? Theatrical RahXephon was particulary dreadful and... enough said about Akira.

Watching the original Mobile Suit Gundam for the first time here. Pretty enjoyable, wondering how the hell I haven't seen it before, what with it being famous as hell. On episode 10 or so. the one where he just flies off because Bright was talking about replacing him
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

I would like a new, decent and not gay gundam series, is that too much to ask?

Fujoshis, they ruined all my favorite series.

Anyone here knows Blazing Transfer Student OVA series?

Finished U-Jin's Tales Trilogy, consisting of the anthologies Tales of...Titillation, Misbehavior, and Sintillation.

The stories are all centered on perversion and sex, ranging from hilarious, disturbing, and even boring. The standout anthology is easily Titillation. Lots of character design and animation from Urushihara, so it automatically gets an A+ in my book. Funniest bit is "DANGER! A LARGE PERVERTED SALARY MAN IS APPROACHING," a Kaiju/magical girl superhero story of a perverted salary man who uses his power to lift up girl's skirts, only to ejaculate poisonous seed that melts everything around him. Magical girl Akko transforms and saves the day.

Tales of Misbehavior is also pretty fun, although one story, "The Match Vendor," is kinda depressing in a way. Tales of Sintillation is mainly boring, as six concise stories are shoved into 35 minutes, taking both a hit in the animation department, as well as in overall narrative and delivery. One standout tale, "Aim for the A! (Ace)", is an excellent parody of the tennis manga/anime, only with added perversion. Perfectly imitates the bold, exaggerated style of Aim for the Ace!

I'd at least recommend the first 70 minutes or so, and especially the Aim for the Ace! parody if one didn't want to bore through Sintillation. Or if you're a pervert.

I'm on second season of Big O - such a brilliant mood it has, I love the classic sortof 'mysterious' music that comes in with the bell type sounds, reminds me of the wondrous intro to Tales Of The Unexpected :)

Just finished watching Madoka Magica. What a great show. It really is the Evangelion of magical girl shows, taking an uncompromising look at the genre tropes that most similar shows expect the viewer to swallow without questioning. I mean, seriously, why would you believe anything a talking cat tells you? Generic designs for characters and costumes are the only real weak point of the show, though it ends up working in its favour when contrasted against the bizarre designs of the witch labyrinths.

Unfortunately, neither the sleeve nor the discs stated whether the UK blu-rays are region free or not, so I can't confirm whether importing would be a valid option for anyone with a region A player.
