Thanks much for the showcase, icy, I look forward to seeing what else you come up with at the next exhibition. :)

After watching the videos, I also noticed traces of the first Mushi's Stage 5 music in the sequels' Stage 3 tune...overall there also seemed to be a lot more percussion in most of the songs, it gives it a more "exotic" feel than the first. I'm also thankful to see (hear?) that Reko's scream upon dying is much less shrill and piercing than before, heh heh. In addition, it seems that during boss fights the amount of shiny things you've collected slowly decreases, another element borrowed from Galuda...it also seems to go down like crazy when bombing, so apparently Cave's bringing back the DDP-esque "bombing is bad" mentality, which wasn't present in the first Mushi. The sucker definitely does look more difficult...right in Stage 2 we're seeing the reliance on blowing up screen-clearing enemies that wasn't really emphasized until Stage 5 in the first Mushi. The graphics really do look great, though I still say Cave could have created an entirely new fantasy-based shooter but was too lazy to come up with a whole new franchise, heh heh.

Original Mode looks like something I want to play.

Gameplay seems to be a lot faster than the first game, in both modes. Graphics are gorgeous, although the T-Rex does look a bit crappy. Although everything else looks fine, I don't really like that generic fantasy theme. I feel that it somehow makes Mushi less "special", if you know what I mean. At least stage three seems to have the trademark bugs.

and we all know........ everyone LOVES bugs.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

yeah after seeing those new vids my eyes were drooling at the grafix...
really pretty 2D visuals.

I really liked those transparent beams of light fading in and out in one of the backgrounds along with everything else moving around. That 3 way shot that rotates left and right looks fun also.

Looks like it'll be seriously hard from those vids - stage 2 looks ludicrously hard. Strange how there are no bomb pick ups in the videos, yet there are extra slots for bombs.

Seems that it's a war on all manner of animals rather than just the insects this time. The 2nd stage looks bizarre with giant lobsters and jellyfish.

Someone mentioned there were blue and gold colored gems this time. If you watch the videos, blue gems don't appear to increase the gem counter. Also the special effect on the number is different... gold gems roll the number in from the top and is gold, blue gems roll the number down and are blue (watch the numbers in the upper left if you don't see what I mean).

The boss patterns are a bit generic as far as I can tell - I hope they didn`t spend all their time on that eyecandy!

I hope they DID!!! I want it to play well to, I'm not to worried about that. What I REALLY hope is that it won't have ugly scaling issue on the home port....

The dinosaur looks really uninspired. Sure the animation is impressive, but it's nowhere near the level of stuff like that baby demon in Gunwage. Also, don't the boss explosions look weird? I was kinda expecting a bloody mess when the dinosaur got killed, but it instead exploded and send a bunch of debris. DEBRIS?

I think so far it's deffinately in a high slot as far as 2D sprite work... sometimes I don't get why folks will nit pic something to death over a video. This certainly is not an UGLY game by a long stretch just from those videos. That and on top of it it's not like games are flooding out the gates, especially with this visual quality....

Gameplay aside.. it's deffinately pretty.

Now Trizeal is a different story. Still this sometimes confuses me on here when I see certain posts. Especially with so many positive posts on new games like Karas, I think that looks no where as nice as this new sequal to Mushi... I know verything is opinion but at times I think thats a thin excuse...

I'm being a bit opinionated here myself, not trying to sound like a dick. Just like I said before sometimes I'm baffled by some comments or I wonder if they are being made more so to go against the grain more than anything else....
but it's nowhere near the level of stuff like that baby demon in Gunwage
I agree on that game, it's got some amazing style to it...

Looks like a Ketsui like score system to me. When he uses normal shot he gets the gold gems that just get added to the multiplier, but when he uses the rapier shot (or whatever) blue gems are released and the player gets massive points, but the multiplier stays still. Then there's that bar that sits under the multiplier that makes no sense to me, it just fills up really fast when the guy's getting blue gems.

Whatever, looks fun to me. And I'm sure the games far more difficult at that location test than it will be in the final version. I remember videos from the first Mushihime's location test and some of those boss patterns were absolutely brutal.

Location test are traditionally harder, but not buy a whole lot. If you look at the pre-release Galuda 2 vids, you'll see some boss patterns are different. Definitely harder, but only in a couple of places.

So far, the game is missing the beautiful and complex bullet spreads of the first game. This disappoints me. I hope they throw more bullets in Maniac mode, or at least make the bullet patterns look less like they were ripped right out of Galuda 2. Or perhaps they'll save most of that for Ultra mode? BTW if there is no Ultra mode this is going to suck.

Anyway, I'll buy it when it hits $1500 USD for a new kit. :D

Agreed - I didn`t download the normal mode vids yet, but the maniac mode seems to consist more of fewer but faster (?) bullets instead of thick bullet streams. So while the game looks hard, it doesn`t look like the typical Cave bullet spray. Not including an ultra mode would offense some people for sure - I`d say if they did in Mushi 1, they should in Futari, otherwise it would seem as if they didn`t care.

Honestly, I thought Mushi had some of the shittiest, gimmickiest, dryest, most unoriginal bullet patterns ever. It was like a million variations on the same spiral pattern for 90% of the game. The patterns in Mushi 2 look decent though. I dunno if they'll ever surpass Ketsui's genius patterns.

I doubt that this is ever going to happen. The Ketsui bosses were the pinnacle of bullet patterns. 8)

Considering how many people complain about how "in a rut" Cave is, hopefully this will be viewed as a good thing.

2 and a half minute cave promo vid shown at the AM show:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_oYWEaaphk

The version on the third day of the show was a NEW one, with a bunch of changes. A few include :

-the gauge under the main counter changes from blue to red
-some of the boss patterns are different
- some changes in a few of the shot types
-In Maniac mode the bullets have slowed down a bit but now there's a shitload more on the screen, so it's going to be just like the first game in this regard. (hooray!) -Getting blue gems, while still giving massive points, now makes the multiplier go DOWN (and not stay still), so it plays almost like Ketsui (as MrMonkeyMan was quick to observe). This should please some people.

More changes are likely to come. Seems Cave is taking player feedback and fine tuning the game for its end of October release.

That cosplay dancing at the end of the vid was ridiculously funny, but I doubt Cave will ever top their Pink Sweets promo, hahhaha!

I enjoyed the first one quite a bit so I'm pretty excited for this release, though I'm one of those people that will have to wait for a port (*prays*) or for it to show up on MAME in 2025.

Can't wait to see Ultra mode. There IS going to be an Ultra mode right?

I really like the different shot styles shown in that promo vid, they look really nice if nothing else. What was that little advertisement at the end all about though lol?

The cosplay sequence mentions 'DVD'. Is it just a promo for the INH Mushi DVD, or something else?

The new clips of that game look quite exciting. But I`ll never understand the rules of cosplay. I mean, they didn`t even barely resemble the Mushi characters... unless of course it is self-ironic, which I hope it is. And agreed, nothing is gonna beat that Pink sweet trailer, that was the most batshit nonsense I´ve ever seen.

I think I saw the word "box" in there someplace too...too bad I couldn't read anything else, heh heh.

Thanks for the link, though every oddball cosplay sequence I see from Cave makes me wonder anew whether some of 'em should be committed.

Two more vids, these are from the AM show (right-click to save):

http://www.ojakan.com/img/am2006/am_m002.wmv
http://www.ojakan.com/img/am2006/am_m005.wmv

First one is Maniac mode 1st level, second one is Original mode 3rd level, and it includes the boss fight! Both are very clear quality video of flatscreen monitors. Well worth a download, especially the second one.
