Eh, not one of Taito's best. It's not bad, but the chunkiness of your ship really hurts it.

Lord Hypnos - Scramble - Stage 1 - 1570

First time ever playing. used 1 credit, and then decided it wasn't worth it to use any more. I feel like this one is a bit of a memorizer (not that all shmups aren't to some degree, but this seems pretty extreme) fun game tho.
EDIT: maybe it isn't, maybe just takes a while to get the hang of the controls.

ACSeraph - Fantasy Zone - Stage 3 Boss - 69,360

Almost rerolled because I feel like I just played this, but didn't want to waste it. I really need rapid fire to be able to enjoy this game.

I like Scramble quite a bit, but the thing is it's a completely static loop (the only thing that changes is the fuel) so it gets stale over time. I'd say it's more worth playing for historical perspective than for anything else.

Yeah, definately highly influential. The issue that I was having I think was just getting the hang of the controls, and remembering not to crash into the floor. haha.

Thunder Force IV

CSF - 52,040 - Stage 2

I don't understand the love this game gets, though for some reason I almost never connect with Mega Drive games. My love of retro games may be more nostalgia-based than I like to admit (growing up, I was 100% Nintendo... though I loved to spend time with a Genesis if I could).

I would love to play but I really wanna play the Strania that I rolled, and yet can't access by 360 at the moment and have to study for an exam on top of it.

TFIV is definitely over-rated, but it's still a fun game with some nice points of its own. Some of the bosses are great fun, even if it can be sometimes frustrating to see if your damaging them or not. The later levels are also pretty hype.

I think I found something definitely not for the UTI thread. All the parallax or whatever is it makes my head spin.

ACSeraph - ASO II - Stage 1 Boss - 79,500

First ever attempt at this, can't say I enjoyed it much. The weapon system doesn't seem well implemented, who has time to scroll through menus in the middle of a shooting game?

Rolled Zero Rei. X68000 2:00 Caravan game. Looking forward to it, but cannot play immediately. Soon, tho.

Re Thunderforce IV: The music probably has something to do with it, though I think TFIII might have slightly better music overall. Haven't gotten around to learning either of them though, myself, unfortunately :(

Actually, I found TFIV's backgrounds made me feel a little weird... been feeling a little off all night, though.

And yeah, I couldn't really tell if I was damaging basically any of the enemies that didn't go down in one hit. It was seriously annoying. (Do bosses have weak spots or do you just shoot them wherever?)

Red hitspark = doing damage. Blue hitspark = not.

Bosses and some other large enemies do indeed have weak spots; NB some are difficult to hit with Blade due to its large projectiles. Gargoylediver (ocean stage boss) is infamous for this and can take all afternoon to kill if you don't know to use something narrower like Free Way, Hunter or even Backshot/Rail Gun's weeny forward gun.

Holy shit, if only I knew this first time playing. Does this apply to Elemental Master as well? I remember I could never tell if I was damaging the stage 5 boss or not.

Yup! EM's the same (had to look up my old Mania vid to recall, haha - not often I hit bosses without the charge shot in that one).

I just skip blade on the level and get it on the next one :)

I'm sorry Captain but I forgot to mention I used a credit in EspGaluda yesterday.

My biggest beef with it is just how hard it seems to be trying to be cinematic/atmospheric but in the end just manages to feel slow as fuck. That bothered me more than the esoteric weapon system.

Gaplus is really good. One of the better early STG.

If you like Galaga, you'll almost certainly like Gaplus. Big thing is that Gaplus is really intense and fast-paced and, uhh, hard. Probably the best pre-85 STG I think.
