Mighty No. 9
Re: Kickstarter: Inafune Mega Man-esque game(Mighty No. 9)
I concur with Skykid, Inafune for biggest troll.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I'd actually forgotten this game was a thing. What's it been now, four years since the original Kickstarter?

It's not like it looks any worse than early screenshots, is it? Just what did the apologists expect back then?

I feel like that trailer would've been better without the voice work. Or at least if they didn't try so hard with it. "like an anime fan on prom night"? Really?
It hasn't always been 3D has it?
I didn't know they were gunning for a physical release, either. (unless the box was just for show?)

You really have to wonder what kind of target audience exactly the propaganda department at Deep Silver had in mind when it greenlit the "dudebro"-like voiceover who talks to you as if you were an edgy-wannabe 8 year-old or something. And, aren't anime fans part of the game's actual audience? I don't get it.
Anyway, the nonsense around Mighty No.9 is more entertaining than the game will ever have any right to be.

Huh, so it's about voice job, the beef. I watched it silent and couldn't work out what's the problem that hadn't been all the time.
The title resurfaced on some videogaming sites again, so I guess it did the job. All that I made out of the vid without sound was that the running animation isn't great.
Real shame the UbiArt Framework engine isn't widely available for devs but then again - to make bad graphics with it must be just as possible as with any other tool.
I can't be the only one wishing to see a 1vs1 fighting game using it, even though I don't really play these.

In other news, The Last Guardian is due the year 2016 now. I'm getting a strong Heart of Darkness vibe from this one.
P.S. Meaning the Heart of Darkness game here.

Anyway, what is that pic supposed to even be? It's like Sonic running and his dust trail is pizza or something? Wtf? They could've just had a picture of Sonic or something. Was pizza mentioned in the trailer or something, I forget.

Oh, right.
Anyway, I watched it again and it's even more pathetic the second time around.
Is this what localization and marketing is coming to? Do people think things need to be needlessly badass in order to sell well?
I could go on, but everything's already been said.

If Iga manages to avoid this kind of backlash (considering it's Inti) it'll be a miracle.
Re: Kickstarter: Inafune Mega Man-esque game(Mighty No. 9)
Gameplay and level design in the trailer looks just as uninspired as it did in the beta (alpha?) footage. And it still looks like something a bunch of students could shit out in Unity in a weekend or two.
This one deserves to go up there with the Ouya on the Kickfarter wall of shame. Right next to Star Citizen.

I really want to know the story from the inside.
I mean sure Inafune probably had great hopes but how seasoned was the team he was working with?
What kills me is that they thought they could just tack on all this networking code and console support.
People who have just graduated think they can take on the world and often underestimate the difficulty of making software.
It is especially hard these days with 6 platforms to support and game engines that kind of approximate what you want but require work arounds.
I have suspicion that he was leading a relatively young dev team and they didn't realize how hard it would be.
After watching the video playthrough what is with the lurching camera as Beck runs?
I think the camera shows too much of the screen too, maybe that is why the levels feel a big big and empty.
I've bought my copy of the game from the Kickstarter.
I honestly wonder how many of the team are suffering from huge amounts of stress and depression.
I have the feeling a lot went wrong they didn't write about.
If they want to make another game I wish them the best.
However drop the f***ing networking code. It is nothing but nasal demons when trying to get smaller projects off the ground.
I think most of his fans would be fine playing with friends locally offline.
I'm totally fine with offline games.

The running animation easily is my biggest problem with the graphics. Then again, in Little Samson/Lickle, there's the sensitive subject of its music...
...
Watching it still without sound, the ladder-climbing animation looks just as bad as running. Not merely poor like S&P2 animations and such, no sir - it is bad for the wrong reason that is artistic misguidance. Few things in third person perspective games stick out quite as miserably as the bad playable character animations.
...
...
How odd, so much of it reminds me of Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project (except I actualy did like the presentation of that one).

I guess we just wait for stories from people who quit. Then again, maybe Japanese culture is too reserved for that. I don't know...KAI wrote:It's Inti creates, the best 2D/2.5D games developer alive. Might No.9 looks exactly as I expected it to about 2 years ago. Almost precisely, in fact.
It looks dull, pedestrian, and generally crude and ugly. I have no idea how it actually plays though.
