Man, I never expected them to screw up 4:3 after getting it right in Ikaruga.
In addition to Guwange, Strania had a patch that added 4:3 as well -- is there any decent way of contacting Treasure about this? I don't think they have a facebook page like G.Rev where they respond to comments.

radiant sword: cancels pink bullets that give you gauge, use with max gauge to do hyper sword attackCaptainRansom wrote:Can I get a quick "RSG For Dummies" version of how this shit works?
normal chain: kill enemies of the same color and you'll get points in sets of 3, multiplier goes up until it's 100,000 per kill
special chain: kill red, blue then chain yellow and it will start at 10,000
weapon bonus: keep hitting enemies/bosses with the same/a specific weapon? 10k points each
area bonuses: destruction% = percentage of boss parts destroyed + others?
grazing and hitting enemies gives you small points.
Your weapon levels go up depending on how much score you get with them along with area end bonuses.
Weapons max out at 35, and the damage differences are big so you need to get some good chains so the bosses won't be too hard.
1st extend is 1mil, second 5 or 6 mil?

Cool to hear that the 360 version of RSG is finally up & running today. Shall compare it to the arcade ST-V version.

So for a nublet like me: focus on chaining one color to build weapon levels and get those chains with various weapons to build levels?
Thanks, Z.

Simplest way is to just kill the red onesCaptainRansom wrote:focus on chaining one color

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Curios, is this running on an emu with a fresh coat of paint or was it coded for the X360? Also another member said lag, i found no input lag in this version which is nice to see. Overall its a nice effort by Treasure even though some don't like the 4:3 support.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Cliff notes version of Radiant Silvergun is to kill all the red enemies with extreme prejudice. There are a couple of substages where you're better off with a Merry chain (1 red, 1 blue, all yellow) on the stage 2 route, and one sub stage on Stage 4 route where you're better off killing blues.
But just kill the red ones for now.
Main difference between Radiant Silvergun chains and Ikaruga chains is in Radiant Silvergun you can't mix and match the colors. Don't wash the coloreds with the whites. It bleeds over.
Vulcan shot, cluster bombs, and homing lasers will see you through almost anything.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
There's no way this is an emulator. Besides, as already observed by Kiken, some of the attack waves have been altered slightly. I really can't see them going back to a Saturn development rig, changing the original code (much of which is likely ASM), recompiling then running under an emu on the 360 (which I doubt the 360 hardware could handle).lawnspic wrote:Curios, is this running on an emu with a fresh coat of paint or was it coded for the X360? Also, it's only on one (or two) peoples HD TVs that some lag has been reported. I'm playing on a CRT and there's no lag when playing in SD.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I'm playing on a lagless LCD monitor, and I have no input delay either. And I just went and played my Saturn version, on a CRT to compare.
When I first played this version, I thought "this looks nice, but you can tell it's from the 32 bit era, due to the polygons". Which is true, but damn, it looks MUCH better than the Saturn version.
I hope Guardian Heroes looks as nice(even though I haven't quite clicked with that game yet).

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
You guys should really just be exclusively playing Ikaruga mode. No color discrimination there!
Does anyone else find the HD/bloom filters lurid and obnoxious? RSG honestly features some of the best 3D mechanical modeling and animation of the 32-bit era, and sprites are blended seamlessly with polygons. Low-res 1 is the only mode that does it justice.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Are you playing it on a CRT or a LCD(or Plasma)?
Because it looks a bit rough(to say the least), in low-res, on my LCD. I turn off the bloom though. It's aggravating.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
It's a shame you can't alter the extent of the bloom. It's just ever so slightly too saturated. Would have been a 5 minute job for the coder(s) to add.

I happen to be a huge fan of the roughness characteristic of 32-bit polygons. It lends a grittiness and ambiguity to the graphics that's entirely absent from anything made nowadays.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I quite like the updated graphics, but I think they've done the bare minimum required. I'd like to have seen a full-on HD revamp of the graphics, including complete remodelling of all 3D objects.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
That would be a bit much to ask given Treasure's financial situation, to say the least.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Is anyone else only seeing their friends when checking the Leaderboards? I have no idea how to view global leaderboards or if it's even an option.
Other than that, I think the game is looks and plays great. I'm really looking forward to grinding this out for the next few months.
Also, is there anyone else who actually likes grazing as a scoring mechanic? It's one of the main reasons I kept playing Raiden 4 for as long as I did despite how terrible I am at it.

Press B on the Leaderboard to change the filter options at the top of the screen.

You know, the Ikaruga mode, actually makes me feel like I have a chance. Not much of one, but a better one. It's certainly frees you more, and you can have a bit more fun with it.
OH, and I haven't watched the anime intro yet...but is it as vulgar as that fan translation made it out to be? I always found that to be a bit strange, to say the least.

Uploaded a small video of the XBLA release last night. It drops a frame very occasionally in strange places (actually did happen, not a recording fault).

There must be a 4:3 patch coming soon (I'm so bad at this game I need excuses like this).

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I just wonder how we could annoy Treasure to make a patch. They don't seem to chat with their fan base much.
And yeah, I'm terrible at this too. I mean, everything is moving so slow, and so are you...and speed is usually my problem. But not here! For some reason, I just get hit by these slow ass bullets all the time. It confuses me. I think it's the directions they're coming from.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I got the demo to see how it played, pretty offputting for a new player, it drops you in a later (altered?) stage (dont know for sure ive olny played the first few levels). They should've just put in level one like most other demos.
Graphics wise i'd rather just play it on the saturn. 4:3 box in 16:9 looks too square and chopped off. Dont think any 4:3 verizontal is going to look good in 16:9 though.
Treasure could make a buck or two selling represses of the saturn version
flood the market!

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
The generation that we live in is HD only and I dont see why people are putting games consoles into cabinets. They dont belong in them.
You certainly didnt get HD display 4:3 cabinets 15 years ago.
If a game is converted to be played in this generation than it will be to run in HD and not in 4:3. Especially if it isnt outputting in the same resolution that was probaly something like 240.

Yeah the stage and boss selected to represent the game is probably the worst choice they could have made.
