I used to always want the physical copy but as technology changes so do i, as well as getting older. I no longer buy cds anymore and all my cds that i do own are ripped into mp3s. I have huge hard drives for digital "stuff."

I don't think physical copies will ever go away but i do think there will a digital release to coincide with the physical copy.

As for Strania. I'm up in the air about it. I watched the videos and i see a dude slashing the whole time. I hope there's more to it than that. I also saw some weird as gun weapon...onto tomorrow.

It is absolutely aimed at the XBLA-mass market. You think they just want it to be a niche product within a niche market? No chance. There's no profit in that on XBLA. They'll probably need at least 50K sales to break even (similar to Cave's target for Guwange) but it'll be lucky to get 20K IMO.

Champion of the grocer's apostrophe Rush'n Attack is up, but no Strania. Later, maybe?

Just played through the demo (2 levels). Not much to say imo, it seems pretty straightforward. Can't say I care for the weapon system though. Switching through equipped weapons is awkward and the game throws out a ton of pick ups through each level. But still, it's probably well worth $10.

Stage 4 boss retardedly hard...

Can barely beat it in training. Is there some trick?

Otherwise, amazing game!

Is this true? JP version has more stages than the US version?

There are definitely more than three stages - I'm getting to the st4 boss, now. I smell a bumbler.

BTW, the weapon system becomes much less of a pain in the arse once you notice that weapons are replaced according to which side of your mech (or which "hand") touches a power-up. If you have a rocket launcher in your right hand and want to keep it, for example, you can either make sure to touch new weapons with your left side, or toggle it off to keep it in stock.

Thanks for clarifying the weapon system, it really had me confused.

This feels a lot like Ikaruga to me (without the polarity thing, obviously), but it has a tendency to get way too chaotic making it extremely hard to see what to dodge and what's just scenery, the second boss battle is a perfect example.
If it wasn't for that "detail", I'd say this game seems to kick a lot of ass.

This game is sorta boring. Not bad. Pretty fun. I truly hate the weapon pickup system.

Yeah, the screen is definitely very busy a lot of the time, but it's only a problem on your first few goes, really. The third stage feels pretty chaotic at first, but there's not all that much to get hit by once you've sussed out those laser cannons that break off.

Stage 4 boss is fairly simple, just know to move around whenever he starts glowing purple. when he starts shooting lasers everywhere, you can sword him from the side for easy damage.

I'm liking the weapon system myself, though there are maybe too many weapon pickups in the stages. Still, it was known from the start that you would be switching weapons around a lot.. works better than I expected tbh. I find myself having to use all the weapons, which is a good sign.

Still haven't fully understood the scoring system.. Overdrive gives you a multiplier that rises for each kill, and getting kills with weapons gives you point bonuses incrementally. The max bonus seems to be able to repeat itself? You also level up weapons faster by finishing off bosses with them. Some big bonuses for completing objectives too.

Klatrymadon: those are your friendly ships thrusters.. you're supposed to protect them :P Just pass them as soon as you can.

Oh yeah, and the netcode seems to be really good.. big surprise there.

Oh! Hehe, I thought I was getting points for taking them out before the missiles got there. Hadn't even occurred to me that it might be a friendly ship. D'oh.

A couple of G.Rev employees worked on Ikaruga, and a quick check of Strania's credits show Hiroshi Iuchi in there under 3D graphics.

Props to Zaarock, I think you have like the #2 score on XBLA right now.

I'll keep working on that Stage 4 boss. I found a safe spot on his first form that lets me get an extra 10% damage in, which is helping a bit.

What are the extends in the game? I know there is one for Boss 1, then hitting 1,000,000 points? Any after that?

According to an article that Siliconera did on this game, you can get the multiplier over x2.0 at points. Anybody done that yet?

Yeah. After playing some more the weapon system isnt too bad. I too am baffled by scoring. I think there is multipliers for quick killing bigger enemies and then the whole "combo" you get it on certain area's and others not.

We've all probably seen this moron before, but it could be a different account. He basically trolls with all sorts of BS on videos and other sites, then when people start flaming him he makes a new account to do it again. And he's been doing it for years.

But it's definitely BS, just like all his other crap.

Anyone else had to redownload the full game after buying it? Just buying it from the ingame menus didn't do it for me. neither did relaunching the game, I had to click on "download again".

So far I just don't know if I like this or not.

No 4:3 support :(

You can't zoom in to cut off those borders either. Looks like crap on my little TV. Probably should have waited until after I moved my 360 from my HDTV to buy it.

And anyone get to stage 4 equipped with some kind of rocket booster? You can't stop moving, but all 3 of your weapons will fire at once. I thought I broke the game at first. Made the boss stupidly hard when trying to dodge his laser spam.

The first few bars of the st3 tune are a maddening earworm. The kind of stuff characters in SF novels use to stop people from reading their minds. Argh!

No 4:3 support
So it has top/bottom letterbox? Please don't tell me it has right/left wallpaper AND letterbox... If so, my 20" screens are going to be too small :(

Sorry, I don't want to turn this into a 4:3 rage thread...
...so, about those earworms lol!

I hope to grab this either tonight or this weekend.

So wait, how is tate support? My only decent gaming monitors right now are a tate dedicated PVM and a tiny old CRT with messed up colors.

It has darkened borders at the edge that you can't enter, so the play area is 4:3. You can see enemies who are outside the play area, and sometimes I think you can shoot them, but the game would play just fine if you couldn't see off the screen. I don't think any enemies shoot when they're out of the play area.

Not as bad as Guwange since the extra width is still showing game data, but I'd rather have a full screen display on my 4:3 TV.

It doesn't support tate because it's horizontally oriented.
