Having 2 Parodius games on the poll was intended to split the votes for the two games, as otherwise Parodius games are likely to be the most famous. So to keep the poll less predictable.GaijinPunch wrote:Has anyone made an official complaint on having basically two of the same game in the poll?
But that's just how the voting goes, you'll never know what the masses are going to pick up in the end. I am pretty surprised that out of all these games Twin Bee made it.

Going by popularity in this forum. I'd say that Parodius and Gradius are way more popular then Twin Bee. Twin Bee Yahhoo is pretty unknown in this forum and had not even a highscore thread. It could almost have qualified as a hidden gem. I am pretty surprised that it won the poll. (I think if it would scroll horizontally it might notRob wrote:

Afterall I think the choices on Konami Week were all quiet decent. I also remember that you, Rob, said that this is finally a good poll. I am sorry if you don't like the voted game, but that's just how the STGT works. The randomness in selected games is the whole point of this event. And no matter which game we'll play, there will always be a lot of people hating the game. If we'd play DoDonPachi, every year's 1st place game in popularity of this forum, there would be a lot of bitching about that game as well.

I hadn't even tried out Salamander 2. Also, I don't like the idea of having similar games competing for the same vote. In some weeks there is no choice but in Konami week there isn't much excuse. And there is no way of using this same balancing strategy throughout the tournament. For example, if (heaven forbid) DoDonPachi made it on a list, what measure could be taken to even the playing field? It just works in this case to screw the Parodius series (none of these games even make the top 25). One of those spots could have been used to get another different style of game a fair, if unlikely, shot.
I'll say again that I appreciate all the effort you guys put into this. Managing the high score chart looks like torture on its own.

The name of the game is Twinbee "Yahho", not Twinbee "Yahhoo". The voice in game says "yahho".Edge wrote:Going by popularity in this forum. The high score area isn't always a good indication of game popularity. It doesn't have popular games like R-Type III, Gun Nac, or MUSHA in it either. There are plenty of topics here on Twinbee Yahho, mostly about the Saturn Deluxe Pack. JP's site even has a little blurb on it. Also, while some people did vote for Detana becuase it was a vert, plenty of people like me, Turrican, and Shatterhand voted for it becuase we guniunely like the game. I like horis quite a bit and I'm sure plenty of others who voted for Twinbee Yahho feel the same way. Heck, I almost voted for Gokujo Parodius and probably would of if Japan Game Stock wasn't on vacation.
The problem isn't that I didn't like the voted game. The problem I have is with the way the games got chosen. No explanation was given until after the games were chosen for the poll. Some games people voted for were left out for reasons I don't agree with, like a game simply being obscure. Xexex got left out simply because it is a lesser known game, despite the recent posts about it on the forum. Gradius III was chosen despite how it's hard in a bad way and well known around here for more infamous reasons.Afterall I think the choices on Konami Week were all quiet decent. BTW, I feel that Xexex being obscure has nothing to do with it being a hori. It didn't get a home port until recently and the version in US arcades was butchered.

So, what method would you suggest instead?BrianC wrote: The problem isn't that I didn't like the voted game. The problem I have is with the way the games got chosen. No explanation was given until after the games were chosen for the poll.
We have a thread where people can suggest games, point out known problems, etc.. I think the community already has a large impact on the games which get chosen. However if we'd try to debatte until we can agree for 5 games, it would probably be impossible. As there will always people have different game tastes. How should we make that agreement anyway? Also if people know the choices on the poll before, the weeks get more predictable. So the organizers decide for the games on the poll. The community have the final say with the poll, they get to choose from 5 games.
I honestly do not understand what you want to be changed in future? But please go ahead and tell me, everything can always be enhanced offcourse.
PS: I left out Xexex, because it got hardly any votes last year and that was in Hidden Gem Week(!), not because it is a horizontal shmup.

I personally was very pleased with this selection of titles, Edge. Besides Twinbee, it was pretty amazing that I could have played any of the listed games, without a MAME setup. There was the über-hardcore choice of Gradius III, two different enough Parodiuses, Salamnder 2...Edge wrote:So, what method would you suggest instead?BrianC wrote: The problem isn't that I didn't like the voted game. I don't actually know if console ports availability has been a criteria when choosing these (and not a Thundercross or Xexex, for example), but I'm grateful!
No doubt, this week will mark the apex of Twinbee's popularity around here. I'm glad that comments in the poll's thread gradually changed from "on noez, this week is ruined" to "hey, actually this is sorta cool".Edge wrote:Going by popularity in this forum. That's exactly my point. I feel the games were chosen by assumption rather than actual evaluation of what people said on the forum. You can't pick people's tastes.Edge wrote: I think the community already has a large impact on the games which get chosen. The problem is that the organizers based the poll on assumptions that didn't completely reflect what people posted in the forum before the poll. I got the impression that certain games wouldn't be allowed no matter what people said about the games before hand. More guidelines about what exactly is and isn't allowed would be helpful. Letting people know what's on the poll before it is finished would probably be bad, but I feel giving people an idea of what isn't allowed on the poll would probably be a good thing. Also if people know the choices on the poll before, the weeks get more predictable. So the organizers decide for the games on the poll. The community have the final say with the poll, they get to choose from 5 games.
That is an incorrect assumption, which is exactly what I would like to see left out. I mentioned the hori thing because you complained about horis not being voted for. I was not saying that it was the reason Xexex didn't get voted. In a way, I was saying the opposite.PS: I left out Xexex, because it got hardly any votes last year and that was in Hidden Gem Week(!), not because it is a horizontal shmup.
I know you left out Xexex because it was obscure and didn't get enough votes. What part of "Xexex got left out simply because it is a lesser known game, despite the recent posts about it on the forum." suggests that I thought you left out Xexex because it was a hori?
oh ok. I usually see it written as Yahho, but it does look as if the writing says Yahhoo. I assumed Yahhoo was wrong becuase that it is how it is written on rom sites. The previous topics on the game here either used Yahho or Twinbee Deluxe Pack. Now I feel silly for having the game, but never bothering with a katakana chart to look up the name.nZero wrote:Yossy Island? ヤッホー ends in a long vowel. So, Yahhō or Yahhoo. ::shrug::

Yace's (oversized) ego has been hurt in this thread, so he decided to give up the tournament and never ever come back on those boards again. If you think this is a dumb decision, you're right. You can take a look at the whole drama here.
Since Yace doesn't want to participate anymore, what about the score he already submitted for Twin Bee Yahoo?

I am sorry, Minzoku, but the tournament already started, so you can't join anymore. Maybe you'll join next year though.Minzoku wrote:If this is a crap entry, Kiken tole me to do it!
