This. Forcing the game to run full-screen on a widescreen monitor will make the picture all blurry and stretched and crap.

But congratulations on your first TATE!

LOL :P

I've finally got s-video for my PS2 and SAT, I cant believe I didn't upgrade ten years ago... Ibara is actually playable now, and Mushi looks rather nice too.

I still can't beat Mushi, but I love the game too much - I'll never give up. In original I've got the game memorized, but those damn purple bullets move so fast sometimes... Ugh!

Been playing lots of Under Defeat. I had always intended on recording an all clear, but never got around to it. So now I'm getting back into 2-All territory. Of course, it'd be nice if my Dreamcast wasn't crapping out... constant dropped audio, massive loading times and crashing between stages does not make for a preferable practice environment.

Taking a little break from Mushi, which is now my favorite shmup ever, and playing thunderforce 3. Only got to lvl 4 so far, but what a great game!

Ketsui -- still sucking, but this is so much fuuuun
DOJ -- actually doing much better, not sure if this is because the MAME version is screwy [compared to the PS2 one], although I'm still pretty bad [barely got to middle of stage 3]
DDP -- had a great, great run, and started dieing on shit I didn't see at all [so I stopped]

I really, really need to pay more attention, either a: the death was my own fault for being too slow, or b: I didn't see it at all...
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Started playing Darius Twin for the first time since it was recently released on the Virtual Console. Don't know how I missed out on this series but, I did. So far I've made it to Zone E but died at the boss. I love the feeling of progression in this game although, enemies don't shoot much at first but Zone E amped it up a bit. The ship is a little to big and long for my liking but I love the sense of power it gives you as you power up. Soundtrack to this game is so awesome :)

Okay, after switching a bit among EspRa.De., Ketsui and Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 Black Label, I decided to concentrate on MushiFutari Black Label. It just feels the most fun at the moment, and I absolutely love the HD graphics on the box.

I'll still keep playing EspRa.De. and Ketsui though, but not as my "main" game, but more to get a little distraction if I'm getting to earnest/loosing fun with MFBL.

Incase you dont know, you can set up fullscreen 4:3 on a widescreen. Either through mame or through your graphics card drivers

Ketsui, just had an awseome moment: I died so much on the first stage, but this time I made it all the way through the third stage without bombing (didn't have any left), but of course I got killed when I started thinking "I can't believe I'm doing this well", right before the Boss. Then bombed my way through the Boss fight, ended like at the midboss @ 4th stage.

Stage 3 midboss right now, learning how to get the 1-up. The blue and red swirl is really hard to dodge, so I stay in the corner. But I've developed a pretty great strategy and would be willing to make a video for anyone who struggles with getting it.

Was having some trouble not getting hit by the first boss in thunderforce 3, so i thought I'd look it up.

Everyone kills him before he even uses that attack by flying into the ceiling early in the stage and getting a secret "sever" power-up. Damn, I would've never even seen that thing! I think this may be the first shmup I 1cc, as I was able to get to the last stage (purely due to the hunter weapon and options)

Just discovered Lethal Thunder and damn my wrist hurts - am gonna need my Dreamcast arcade stick for this one. What's the best adapter out there? I know this one: http://www.hkems.com/qa-TrioLinkerPlus.htm (Maybe I should start another thread for this question ...)

Anyway, I looooove Lethal Thunder. I'm not sure I have ever had so much retarded fun with a shooter before. Who needs autofire?

Same here right now, if you can actually call it 'playing.'

How does Ketsui stack up in terms of difficulty against other Cave titles? I'm assuming either DOJ or Esp2 are the toughest, with DS or Futari BL as the easiest, but where on the spectrum would Ketsui be?

Ketsui is right behind DOJ in my opinion. Probably equal to Esp2.

Lol good, was hoping you wouldn't say it's supposed to be easy. I can barely get to stage 3 now (still only my second day playing). I credit fed through to stage 5 a sec ago and...damn...

Esp2 just happens to be the next game on my list. Not gonna make it in time for Christmas, but it should be here the week after. Here's to hoping BL is somewhat more 1cc-able.

Just played half an hour of Papillon Gals on the Famicom, also known as Galactic Crusader (NES).
Another unlicensed Sachen that's surprinsingly varied and fun.

Ketsui (Christmas came early). High expectations were in mind, and were still exceeded when actually playing it. This has my favorite scoring system in quite a while. There's something that feels right about it; destroying enemies at dangerously close proximities with the standard Shot to raise the chip value to 5s and then quickly wiping out as many enemies as possible with the Lock-Shot to scoop up many more 5s.

This really is a novel, thrilling scoring mechanic for rewarding player bravery and skill, while being quite simple to grasp and offering some flexibility. In particular, the flexibility helps because I can ether a bunch of enemies but not feel useless because I'm still making a large amount of points (unlike with DDP, because I still can't bridge combos worth a damn).

Equal to Esp2? Espgaluda was easy to get into (score mechanics and difficulty), so I'd expect the sequel to follow similar design. So did Cave simply jack up the difficulty in Espgaluda II to their usual standards?

Geeze, Futari is considered easy by some? That game gives me a whooping on normal level 3 every time. So much harder than Deathsmiles for me. Then again, I do not have the BL version of Futari

Esgaluda II is one of the hardest games to 1CC by cave. I'd say its harder than Ketsui to 1cc.. The last boss final atttack is utter bullshit and I have yet to figure out a sure safe way to go about it.

Futari is only easy in BL but 1.5 is pretty tough. Way harder than Deathsmiles, but not as bad as Ketsui or EspII
Espgaluda III needs to happen.

Yeah, I agree with that, Mushi BL is quite a good starting point for me right now. 1.5 is a tad harder, whereas esp II is just plain cruel... :-) Really looking for deathsmiles here... I hope it is a little bit easier than mushi BL, that would be ideal for my novice ass...
