I don't know why you'd have so much trouble with DFK 1.5 Bomb Mode because you get so many bombs it's like having 20 men. I'm pretty sure I 1 day cleared it, the 1-All.
Even I (zero skill) was able to do 1-ALL without much trouble.

But SDOJ is another story for sure. Dislike it entirely tho.
I need no games without lolis. Nuclear blast wind blowing some skirts off = instant awesomeness.

I'm not sure why anyone would WANT auto-bomb. It's very, very cheap. That's just my opinion.

I wouldn't put it in a game I was designing but once it's there it's part of your level field resources. It's not anymore cheap than the plethora of cheats they loaded the port up with either. It's like youtube videos are going to need to start with that settings screen to prove they aren't using any. Bleh.

Auto-bomb is balanced by how little damage it does, how it clears your bomb stock when activated and how it completely drops your chain.

No auto-bomb and good reaction on the bomb button is still better if you don't suck at using it.

Yeah, Pink Sweets feels like a hard Cave game to me, in that I can get to stage 4 if I'm doing extremely well, which is about what I could say for Ketsui or DOJ. Except those games don't have as many levels, so Pink Sweets is basically a mother.

I mean, I don't have anything against anyone ELSE using auto-bomb. I just kind of think that default settings without auto-bomb should be considered the standard.

All in all, don't really care. I just like this game a whole lot. Also, would like to see some sweet replays with the auto-bomb feature off.

I can't speak much for Pink Sweets as I only really played MMP before I sold my copy; but I'm having a hell of a time with SDOJ... I can't even 1CC Novice mode yet  I get all the way to 1-5 with all my lives and extend and just lose grip. I haven't even tried the other modes yet :X I'm also not using auto-bomb ;)

Yep. Four lives on 1-5 and then immediate and repeated failures of the stupidest kind.

On the auto bomb subject, awo summed it up pretty nicely in the strat thread. In practice, ON is better suited for higher level play because it screws you so hard, and it's only a true blessing when you can't damage the boss with bombs anyway.

"Other than the chain-breaking aspect of the autobomb, the only other disadvantage is you have less bombs to work with than with "OFF". Each time you die with "OFF" you get an extra bomb in your stock, and with Shot type, after a few deaths, you have 6 bombs for each of your last few lives, which is very helpful. I find it easier to clear the game with OFF because you can just bomb your way through the last stage and the last boss. But if you don't die much and/or you are shooting for a Hibachi clear, ON seems to be the way to go as it's more helpful at the end of the game."

Found another bug, if you play on P2 side, you can't change the controls, even if you assign them to anything else!

Finally got to try out the 360 SDOJ port with an Ultracade UVc setup (in low-res 15kHz mode rather than on medium-res 24kHz mode) on the ol' candy cab. It helps to have the 360's native Reference Level screen setting set to "Advanced" (if using Standard or Intermediate settings will result in softness of screen output easily) for the sharpest picture output before messing around with SDOJ's in-game screen settings to find the perfect sweet spot. As usual, the scanlines are quite thick with a dual-sync (15kHz & 24kHz) Nanao MS9 monitor setup. I'm sure it looks awesome on an old-school tri-sync arcade monitor setup or even a 31kHz SVGA CRT-based monitor setup just for fun.

Ok, so I was able to make it 2/3 of the way through stage 4 on a single credit in 1.5 mode. This is definitely easier than Ketsui.

This is my exact setup, using a Sony Trinitron Multiscan G400 PC monitor. Running my 360 through VGA, with system resolution set at 640x480 Non-Widescreen. For SDOJ in-game screen options, i didn't even have to zoom-in or adjust anything else, apart from screen position and rotate. with smoothing turned off, everything looks sharp as a pencil. And I can't really tell, but it seems to give me the least amount of input delay (this is compared to having it zoomed in at 150-ish% through 720p on an Asus LCD.)

Just saw the beginning of Stage 4 on 1.5. Whew. This game is damned good. Best release Cave has put out in a while. I honestly hope they have it in them to do a few more.

Inbachi fight was crazy cool, regardless. So cool to see her go down. I assumed it would be an autobomb off clear - more resources if managed like a pro.

I also assumed an Inbachi clear would result in an immediate WR (without the bug in play) but that doesn't seem to be the case. He must have been playing safe.

Yeah that's how I feel about it, the tradeoffs are pretty punishing when you compare it to playing without it so I think it's fair.

Huh I guess I should mess with that to see how much difference it makes. I'm playing on 15khz through viletim's adapter (posted pic links a few pages back), thought it looked pretty damn nice to me as it was already and I think I'm on Standard.

Wow, haven't been posting here for more than a year :D I guess I drifted off when I got caught by the pinball craze. This game had me coming back! New region free Cave game, and it looks awesome, yay! I have mine on its way from Yes-Asia, and I can't wait to play it. I originally bought it only because I heard it might be the last Cave shooter, like, ever.
Everything people are posting about it makes it sound like it's right up my alley, even if it's probably way too difficult for me (however Novice Expart sounds like they finally made a novice mode that wasn't so crazy easy that it's pretty much redundant).

I'm also really digging this OST track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuwg8jodzLU - so excellent

And I love how "Trouserplanking" has become a recurring term in here since I was last around :D

That s the only explanation i can imagine, because it looks naturally worse.
Yeah, that makes the most sense really, seeing how much glowy, transparent stuff they are throwing around here.
That doesn't make sense at all :P There's no crazy CPU intensive "shifting" going on, the final position has to be calculated no matter how far to the right it is. It's an intentional choice, maybe to make the enemy's position clearer? Dunno.

I guess it could be, so you see where enemies will come in before they appear on screen themselves. But really, does that help a lot?
In Futari BL you can use that to position yourself to get more gems because of enemies being invincible for a while, I guess it could help in SDOJ with keeping your chain in certain places?
Still, it's not like getting used to the offset shadows is hard, and the straight below ones look worse.

Got tired of repeatedly dying due to stupid mistakes on my part in Novice 1-5, so I decided to try 360 mode with Saya... and holy shit is it awesome.

First try, I was 1ms from a 1CC and barely grazed a bullet when i had no more meter... I've at least got the replay to prove it to myself.

360 mode doesn't seem too different than Novice As far as bullet patterns go; I've still yet to try Arcade or 1.5 XD

He definitely had a strategy to dodge the blue only part of the pattern and then bomb when it got totally nuts.
