I myspaced them all. Coconut Coolouts in particular were fucking awesome. I couldn't find The Young though.

Have been listening to pitifully little new stuff myself, but Make Believe's self-titled EP is worth checking out

The 2xCD Le 12 mars 1977 a Tachikawa set is really good and probably the best thing to own by them. I've heard another bootleg (everything by them is a bootleg) that was not so good. If you don't have the set mentioned above, go for it!

Also in that same vein:
Jacks 'Vacant Worlds' (late 60's)
White Heaven 'Out' (way the fuck up on my list of favorite albums) (90's)
Shizuka (pick one (or all) of her three albums) (also 90's).

In other news, the new Enslaved album seems really good. is it just me or do I hear shades of This Heat on this album???
I really like Heavier Than A Death In The Family and Blind Baby Has Its Mother's Eyes. I pretty much want everything by them. They can storm like a fucking jugganaut and often teeter on the brink. Same reason I love The Fall.

Magma box set--complete studio album discography

RE: Les Rallizes Denudes--I haven't heard any of those other albums (I think.) Every album by LRD is a bootleg, and of the ones I heard, the 2XCD I mentioned above was the best. But with your recommendation I'll check out these other titles.

That's funny, 'cause I see Jason ("Jug", who plays bass) on his laptop all the frickin' time. They're snotty, snarly punk. Nothing revolutionary, but I likes 'em.

I will do that.

So Neon, yer avatar made me pop in:

Thee Headcoats - Heavens to Murgatroyd Even, It's Thee Headcoats (Already)
Thee Headcoats - I Am The Object Of Your Desire

Yeah, they're a band I've known of for a long time and had heard a couple albums by. Unfortunately they were always too expensive to get. Of course, this box is also expensive, but nothing compared to the prices of each individual album ($20-$30 a CD). This set solves the problem and is very attractive.

As you have found out, the music is really challenging with some parallels to RIO stuff (Henry Cow/Art Bears) and Mothers of Invention, but also totally different than those bands. I wonder if when I heard them in the early 90's if I was ready for them? They are definitely great now!

I've been really into the Sunshine OST, great soundtrack to a great movie.

Explosions In the Sky - The Earth Is Not A Cold, Dead Place and Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die

Mono - You Are There, and Gone (A Collection of EPs) (The Sky Remains the Same As Ever has been in my DVD player a lot, too)

Envy - Abyssal, the split with Thursday, and Insomniac Doze (when Mono's DVD isn't in, Transfovista has been in)

Anyone else into any of these bands? Mono and Envy are my two favorite bands of all time.

I grow tired of post-rock after a while. There doesn't seem to be enough variation in the genre to encourage me to do more exploration. Short list of post-rock bands that I dig: Mogwai, Godspeed, Russian Circles, Explosions in The Sky...

Hush by Asobi Seksu. Pretty underwhelmed so far. Sounds like a definite step backwards.

Second listen and I eat my own words. A stripped down and considered effort altogether, with some delightful melodies. In fact, I couldn't help comparing it mentally to Au Revoir Simone at times. And Enya at other times

Speaking of Mono being more orchestral, Im going to their ten year anniversary show in New York with a 22-piece orchestra. May 8th.

I liked Russian Circles way more before Stations, when they were still a metal band.

Anyone into Set Fire to Flames?

Hideous album and song titles like this are the worst thing about post rock, IMO.

Speaking of post rock, listened to Jessamine's Long Arm of Coincidence last night (after not hearing it for a few years.) Still a really, really great album that will no doubt be lost in the shuffle of the hundreds of other mediocre post-rock groups (especially since 'Long Arm' is probably their only truly solid album.

Didn't bother with much metal last year, but I got around to checking out the Krallice album, which I'm digging a lot. Total wall of sound, with layers upon layers of guitars and some insane shredding.

Dimensions comes out sometime this year, Sunn O)))'s new album.

So excited. Yes, I still love this band.

Edit - Has anyone heard the new Earth album? The Bees Made Honey In the Lions' Skull, I believe its called.

All EITS albums are shit. Live, they are amazing however. One of those annoying bands like Nisenenmondai who have never really translated to a studio environment.

I saw the same show in AZ. EITS were indeed great but Eluvium wasn't so hot unfortunately. I also like EITS's proper albums although I would agree on the previous statement about post rock album and song titles being ridiculously pretentious.

Yeah it's a good record. Completely different to Earth 2 era stuff though so no comparison to Sunn 0))).

It's kind of spacious country licks over long stretches. Better than I just made it sound.

I saw them with Kayo Dot after it came out and it was pretty fucking boring live, though I haven't listened to the actual record. Kayo Dot destroyed them.

Anthony Braxton - Five Compositions (Quartet) 1986 (Black Saint)

A first listen so a little beguiling. I don't think I'm familiar with any of the musicians involved either. The bass player seems a standout of the session, and also quite prominent in the mix. I find the fact the Brax is way out in the left channel a little annoying though.

It is nice to hear him playing with a quick thinking pianist for once. I only seem to have sessions of Brax with a piano playing standards.

IMHO, Kayo Dot is horrible live. Saw them with Stephen Brodsky and Pelican this past fall, and it wasn't very good.

I'm also listening to this right now. I can't figure out if I love it or hate it.

Further complicating things, I seem to love it for a lot of the same reasons that I hate it.

They are straddling a fine line between being a serious band, and being a total fucking joke, like... GWAR.

16 - Bridges to Burn - I'm so fucking glad they got back together. So good.... now Corley and Bobby have to do a new Maxmillion disc and I'll be happy.

Electric Wizard - Dopethrone - I just can't get over how heavy this disc is even after owning it for almost 9 years. I, Witchfinder could level a city.

Enemy Soil - Smashes the State - Awesome Terrorizer style 90's grind.
