Haven't played very far yet since the game is tough as nails and I suck at it, but it's, err... a shmup made from a developer specialized in rpgs.
That means, as a shmup, it's bad. Filled with many features that are considered bad for a STG and let the game play like those worse "euroshmups" out there that are just less fun to play than your typical arcade STG of that time period.
The player follows a seemingly light plot in a basic, typical PC-88 adventure styled presentation. In adventure mode the player can choose where to go next(what planet), chat with NPCs or go shopping for new weapons that can be equipped on your ship before taking off. The shmup parts are initiated whenever the player chooses to depart for another planet. That's it, from what I played.
On the positive side, the music kicks ass and there's some fine PC-88 pixel art to be found, too. Really, for being a shmup, the "old school falcom" atmosphere is still there at all times - you could switch from playing Sorcerian to this and wouldn't feel an all too abrupt change.

Also, the game's box really looks good with it's minimalistic looking(if you want to call it like that) cover-art and there's goodies like Star Trader stickers, a travel map printed on a very soft paper(feels almost like a cloth) and a "Falcom Catalogue". In said catalogue you'll find old shots of their recording-studio, various dev pics, a short Star Trader manga and other tidbits. It's like you put it before, a mark of falcom fandom, even if it's a crap-shmup.

I think the X68k version probably plays better, too bad it just existed as takeru release.

An employee of mine made it as a surprise after making ME a nice yellow one (w/ RED Cave logo)

Books!

Zombies and Shit was fantastic! Way better than I could have hoped, the back of the book blurb 'Battle Royale meets Return of the Living Dead' is all too accurate. I had been on the fence if I liked Carlton Mellick's books, and this was the first full length novel I have seen of his. I got it mainly for the death game story line, but was very satisfied, trashy, violent, funny, surprisingly well meshed charas, and completely over the top!
I haven't read Cosmetica yet, it just came in the mail today, in a laughably large shipping envelope, cardboard coffin thingy, really it was huge!

A sweet birthday gift: my sis' godmother bought herself a new TV set and gave me her old one, a 29'' flat screen CRT, to replace my old one that wasn't working right. In fact, she asked if I wanted the new set, but due to issues like this, I chose the old one. It's not a high-end set or anything, but things look much better than the way most LCDs handle standard definition.

So this is my collection: Dreamcast, Gamecube, and PS2, all connected by S-Video now. Also, currently not connected: a Telejogo II (70's Pong-clone), two Saturns (one broken and the other needs modding), and two Mega Drives (likely both broken).

(The PS2 is actually borrowed from my nephew; but my brother-in-law asked me to never return it. :P)

Believe it or not I bought the Saturn games at a brick and mortar establishment in Davis, CA, Bizzaro World. It's mainly a comic shop but the dude is branching out into games. I bought Rise of Kisai there for $5. One of the more tempting items at the store was the Steel Battalion set. The box wasn't in the best shape so I passed.

Except for FF4, all of the PS2/PSP and DS games were purchased from gamestop (yeah I know) all for $5 or less when they had the buy 2 get 2 free deal going on.

Now if only I can find a copy of Robot Alchemic Drive...

apple arcade> Is SAL similar to Registered Airmail or I'm mixing things up?

I've had one or two packages arriving like that from different sources... Odds are something heavy was put on top of them or it was carelessly thrown into a bag and pushed to the bottom.

Since I've worked in distribution/logistics, I can assure you the treatment that postal items receive isn't precisely the best. Here they even have an apology letter to include whenever a box comes all mangled and destroyed.

And now you have scared me a lot because I ordered two things from AmiAmi... and one is precisely a DVD. I would recommend you to look at CDJapan. The packaging of those guys is made of iron. I've had four boxes come my way and it's like they are of concrete. Really sturdy.

Yea I've used CDjapan before and was happy.

SAL is the slow way of shipping but it is registrable. This was registered and I'm in the process of filing a claim. (no help from amiami, in fact their customer support was rather rude)

Funny thing is AmiAmi charges the most for shipping and this could have been avoidable if they would have just packed it better. Throwing a game in an over sized envelope just doesn't cut it :/

Hope that your stuff arrives safely!

Mmm, thanks for letting me know this. Good luck with that, it truly looks in pretty bad shape. I think even the Paletweb guy pads the envelopes a bit more. Guess I will avoid them from now on... With CDJapan they've even replied to odd requests via Twitter and all, pretty friendly.

I'm probably going to post some pictures just to have some peace of mind, if and when the stuff arrives. One of the packages was unregistered airmail so it's going to take a while (2 weeks so far, it's around 3-6 weeks, maybe more) and the other is registered, shipped today so it might be next week or the next. *fingers crossed!*

Because you coughed up the dough for one of the most expensive Cave games money could possibly buy,
only to play it on an ugly setup that's unworthy at best.
Get a proper cab if you're serious enough to spend 4 digit sums on a single video game.
Ninja-Edit: also, what region are you from? Are you coming to the Garcia-Shmeet?

I can't see anything wrong with it? It's an arcade monitor right..

The guy who did the superplay for DOJ has a similar setup and I'm sure alot of pro japs do also.

Slight step up from supergun -> tv imo.

@Jockel, sorry i don`t see it that way. If you more into washing machines from sega, no problem.
Will try to made another one with banana cardboards, so it is easier to rotate the monitor and the cost would be less.
- I live near Düsseldorf, and not decided jet to go to hambug. It is more than 400 km from here and i only have a motorbike.
Depends a bit from the weather.

@spl, yes it is an arcade monitor. A 20" hantarex polostar. Personal i like it more than the 29" screens.
Cool to hear that the pros in japan do it that way, too.
