Nah, leaderboard controls are the same as before. RB changes ship, LB changes type, right stick changes game mode.
So, are we expected to turn our TV on its side?!

Saya is already overpowered so you might as well be happy with the added slowdown because she already isn't an equal character so now you have a slightly easier mode all around by selecting her. Like many things, perspective people.

Oh well, what the fuck me then. I've been angry and spammed buttons, I even watched that text go at the bottom of the screen multiple times and it said nothing about RB or LB. Yesterday night

At 480 on a 4:3 set up some of the options/modes are still cut off - just as they were before the patch. Way to go Cave, how many ports and they still fuck this up.

But I wouldn't be surprised if MS had different policies about stuff for different areas. And obviously we can't expect them to fix it. Why does Cave have to suck so much at porting their own stuff?

Still should be a fun game, though it would be better if the leaderboards worked and the the slowdown issues were fixed. I probably wouldn't play much with Saya's ship if the slowdown is worse.

As for the initials thing, I could care less. Leaderboards have pretty much gotten rid of the need for that. It's pretty much just an outdated feature to me.
Cave would get another free patch if they ever decide to release DLC for SDOJ, but that's not very likely to happen at this point.

And I completely agree about the score initials thing. It's one of the most ridiculous complaints I've seen on this forum. How neurotic/obsessive-compulsive must one be in order to be genuinely bothered by that? I don't understand, and probably never will. :?

The menus are correctly orientated based on your current screen rotation settings, so why not the wallpapers?
Pretty lame that that wasn't fixed in the patch. My wiring is done so I can only do anticlockwise rotation. Oh, well.

For those looking for another easy way to farm coins after the patch, I've found doing challenge 48 over and over is very easy. His first pattern is easy enough to dodge, second has a giant safe spot (little to the left of his center, the big red balls just sail right around you), third you can hyper/bomb through most of it, fourth is doable (protip: concentrate on the falling thingies) and doesn't matter much if you die (if you do, move up and shoot the boss in the face for more damage), last one just bomb when it gets heavy and you'll get another hyper by this point you can use also.

Edit: Challenge 43 is harder but still doable and much faster.

43 is definitely the best choice. I find it much easier than 48 actually.

So, basically, this game is amazing. 1.5 is definitely the second best CV1000 game. Right under Ibara. I can sense a fair bit of YGW influence in it too which is tickling my fancy oh so delightfully. The hyper recharging is super satisfying. All my dodges feel like I made them, rather than accidentally getting through. Lack of slowdown makes me feel like a real badass when I actually do things. Macro-dodging is actually important. I think I know why this game is so good: it's not really that CAVE-like. It's like they went back to Batsugun, figured out the problems and nailed them, then tossed in some nice chaining and hypers. Super satisfying game. Brb playing moar

I still feel like the recharge system in 1.5 is still too finicky. It's as if Cave had forgotten everything they learned from Deathsmiles 1 and 2, and are either unaware of what made those two games so successful or simply chose not to replicate it for whatever reason. I don't like the auto-bomb as it is either, feels too unbalanced: the costs of using it greatly outweigh the benefits. But aside from that, SDOJ is still quite fun as a total package, especially now that I can select Saya outside of 360 mode with my arcade stick.

Because it's an arcade game, and we want it to be as accurate as possible - it's part of the arcade tradition. But more importantly, some of us have friends that come over and play - there is nothing like having a mate's score on your leaderboard to haunt you, scrolling up above your name.

It's possible that scores posted pre-patch were still fucked, even though the patch was out.

They reset the leaderboards a day or so before the patch hit. I know this as the other day I got excited about posting a score that was 11th... then I realised there were only, like, 50 scores on there. Doh.
I still hadn't had the patch by then, see.

If that's all true I don't know why they didn't just wait till the patch hit before resetting the boards, mind.

They said they would fix the scoreboards the day after the patch, you guys just assumed since they reset them before that time that it would be fixed then

The problem is actually that the scoreboards were changed (the patch made it so they actually displayed scores in the billions properly) but the scoreboard rankings themselves weren't, so we weren't sure if the scoreboards actually had anything done to them or if it was just the patch that modified how it displayed.

I believe you can auto-bomb while you have hypers and while you are in hyper, which means that you can save up to level 10 during bosses to set up insane score on the next stage with less risk. This seems like a big enough benefit to me to be worth using as long as you aren't against the mechanic in the first place.

regarding 1.5...

Auto bombing while in hyper will stop it and break your chain so no level 10 hyper for the next stage.

Say you have level 5 hyper when you enter a boss and you have 8000 chain value. You'll probably end the fight with a level 9 or 10 hyper in stock.

but, if you get hit:

- With autobomb: you'll lose your chain. The earlier you get hit the more it will affect you negatively since you stop building hypers on the boss the moment your chain resets due to the low chain value.

- Without autobomb: You die so you loose all your hypers on stock but you still have part of your chain so you can build hypers during the the rest of the boss fight. The later it hits you, the more it will affect you.

Also, I don't know how big the hit count at the end of stage bonus is in the scoring but it can be a good chunk if you get a high value chain.

Anyone notice a slight change in the audio balancing after the patch?

They definitely did change the audio balance. My new settings are:

Music: 90
SFX: 90
Voice: 40

If you care to really hear the voices, putting them at 60 should still sound nice.

that's the one thing i wasn't sure of, while it may be true you build less with no combo, you will never build up to 10 after losing all your hypers anyway, preserving what you have already would be more valuable

i was seeing only a small increase in score from end of stage bonus, going from like 2.8bil to 2.9bil at the end of stage 2 (perhaps it is worth more later?), preserving a lvl 10 hyper for the next stage or in general, is however worth way more than that

i could see longer loss of MAX bonus (taking longer to get it back due to losing all bombs, if you don't suicide) to be a big deal though, the MAX bonus seems to give a lot more points overall in 1.5 especially if you aren't controlling rank at all

personally i do not use autobomb because i do not like the mechanic, but it seems worth using for the right playstyle to me, as the main source of points is building up level 6-10 hyper for huge hit counters and 3x GP bonus, and it removes some of the risk associated with fighting through bosses without using hyper
