That wasn't the point of my post, which you'd see if you read it.

Personally I think the discussion would flow better and possibly go more interesting places if we could have something more than just the random regurgitation of press releases. Do I think that requires mod action? Not really. However I do think that pretty transparent and dedicated trolling - in the face of a very long history of complaints - is clearly disruptive. What trap15 said, basically.

It kind of is, yeah. Isn't it kind of, y'know, sad that this is a 'Console War' topic rather than a 'Console Discussion' topic? I'm sincerely interested in XB1 & PS4 information, but having it disseminated through cheerleaders who not only take illogical pride in their chosen company's successes, but also like to gloat over the opposition's failings is genuinely demoralizing.

In the past, console threads have been basically positive, and resembled: "This is a pretty nifty hardware feature," or "Dang, I really want that game but can't put out cash for the system just now." This is of course excepting the early XB1 debacle, of which I was as critical as anyone, although not so vocal.

And the fact that we have to manufacture a thread to keep our most annoying contributors at bay (though I'll give Friendly some [stupidly unwarranted] props here that he's basically stuck to the one thread; rm hasn't yet grasped that principle), is a sort of indictment in itself.

I dunno, it seems like we're pandering to the posters whom no regular, or for that matter, rational, shmupsforum member really accepts. I'll admit that I've posted several unproductive 'Get F'd' posts to deserving parties, but at least I'm voicing what I reasonably estimate as a popular sentiment.

Sony and Microsoft are the original trolls.

Both hardwares are very similar with just one ending up a bit more powerful / well rounded, can't blame people for crapping all over the internets for this.

Anyway I feel like right now it is like arguing which smartphone is best (dumbest machines ever). But people don't buy a new console every year so we're supposed to wait and see the games. It's way too early to tell which of the two machines is the best purchase.

PS4 wins the techno battle by a short throw, very interesting *yawn*.
Or are there people willing to compare the quality of the plastic shells and how they smell ?
And the boxes ! Which is made with the best quality cardboard ?

I mean there isn't much to talk about anymore.

PS4 / Xbox One console war

I like the regurgitation of press releases, bashing the consoles, not everyone can keep up to date with that, plus it's on topic.

Let people take sides, it's a topic of war.

Likewise, telling him to shove it where we can't see it is in the spirit of the warz. You're only trivially better than he is.

It's not just this topic.

Look around.

I completely understand your attempt at containment and I clocked it day one. I thought it was a shrewd and smart move. But you realise long after this console war is settled (and it almost already is) this thread will continue to be bumped every single day with related Sony information?

What you're not getting (or seeing) is not that he's a ridiculously irritating fanboy, but it's now highly likely he's on a payroll. He's also broken all the rules laid out on return from his prior ban ten times over.

So yes, you made a thread to contain a shill poster, probably employed by Sony, who shills in all the other mildly related threads too, pisses everyone off to high heaven, and only has time in the day for the following posting format:

Sony game
/youtube link

Sony game
/picture

MS fail
/picture

RSS feed
/dump

If you want solid proof, spend a brief while with this colourful and exciting tome of inspirational contributions and then convince yourself he's not getting commissions:

You haven't been here, from an observational point of view, long enough to comment. This goes back years and has resulted in several run-ins, suspensions and bans.

On a more serious note: point taken.

Maybe I don't. But to be honest, this entire conversation is off topic.

I don't see how anyone can condone making personal attacks on Friendly when his posts are on topic. It's a console war thread, full of Friendly's PR ramblings. You pretty much get what it says on the tin.

Good thing this place isn't run by the principle of mob rule. I am actually kind of surprised how patiently you continue to tolerate this periodically recurring behaviour by the same group of people who relentlessly gang up on me time and time again, showcasing their character flaws and defecating all over this thread while contributing little or nothing of value (other than providing slight amusement). In most other forums these repeat offenders would have taken a time out long ago, especially considering the rules you set here leave little room for interpretation.

Anyway, fear not. It will be my pleasure to continue posting topical information I deem relevant.

Has any console ever provided as much entertainment without owning it? Xbone is amazing in this regard. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

It's good for us to know you're still around to earn your coin - lord knows, it's difficult to figure out why else you are here compared to the hundreds of other forums that might better receive your periodically recurring behaviour.

We'll all just go back to being a mob defecating from the sidelines and contributing little or nothing of value, observing your continuing career here as Sony lobbyist and spokesperson with great interest and fervent anticipation. Thanks so much for your continued input, you make it a way cool place to hang out.

I think this thread will have run its course soon, there's no reason someone can't create one to replace it in the meantime which isn't just a Microsoft lynching - although I imagine it will require ... effort to police.

There's simply not much more drama to come ;) The rest is going to be a fairly predictable stream of high PS4 sales figures and Digital Foundry verdicts.

Just out of curiousity, but what is the likelihood of 360 Titanfall being "similar" to the Bone version? It's my brother's birthday in April, so I'd like to get him the 360 version. Am I making a mistake?

Depends who you listen to...

It may simply not be ready to show yet, it may be that MSEA are deliberately keeping it quiet on purpose, either just to keep the spotlight on XB1 or because the 360 is uncomfortably similar looking.

My money is on a combination of all of the above.

At the beginning of a console generation, this is a fine time to be ruthless. Do you see yourself investing heavily in the future in the Xbox One system? Do you even have one?

Surely, some day far in the future all these games and platforms will be very cheap, and Titanfall copies should be a dime a dozen, regardless of platform. But if the experience is essentially similar on the 360, I don't see any reason not to go with it for now, if that saves money. Someday we will all be able to choose amongst the "best" versions of a game but at this point in time I think eye candy and the relative game experience are what people are looking for - so long as the game performs at a good frame rate and plays well, I wouldn't stress about this decision too much.

Of course it is also possible that a system might perform better, given its detail and resolution levels, on the current consoles than a highly decorated next-gen version.

The best thing about this point in a hardware cycle is the lull in must-have exclusives on the new systems. This makes it pretty easy to ignore them for a while and get back to revisiting some old favourites. Hence why I'm replaying Final Fantasy VI, and am plannng to do a Xenosaga marathon shortly. :D

While on some games we can wait to play the best version of the game, if you want to play the best version of Titanfall you need a PC or Xbone now.

Multiplayer games don't stay the same while you save up money for them.

I have a pretty capable PC. But my brother loves MP CoD, so I'm just trying to work out what to get him. I was thinking of Titanfall, but may opt for Battlefield 3 instead.

I know that what I just stated was pretty off topic.

You poacher.

You're right though - I disregarded the multiplayer aspect of it in my post. I haven't liked (most) multiplayer for a while, but some games get tougher as only die-hards stay with them. The plus side is that I think getting into a game later is that the community is probably more mature (although composed of tougher veteran players, yes).

On that note, my post does assume that he is getting one version or the other straight away. I guess the theory is that you'd buy the Xbox One version to get a more upscale group of players, but I wouldn't rely on trying to buy my way to quality interaction...really, we need to be careful to split apart the assumption that the PC and Xbox One groups will be better multiplayer experiences. As far as the other stuff goes, it's really hard to say which system will perform better, even given that the Xbox One version "looks better." Still don't have any framerate comparisons, for example.

The Ouya is a few orders of magnitude better in this regard. The R-Zone is kind of horrifying in a Voorhees sort of way. etc

I'm surprised they didn't have an instant reaction of some British version of Francis smashing things because he just realized he got taken for a hundred quid.

But yeah, this makes things more interesting. We'll see how many motion gaming fans come out of the woodwork to support the Xbox now.

If I had the money, and if the PS4 wasn't a bigger priority, then I'd have no hesitation in buying an XBone at that price. It's pretty competitive - all things considering.

Wii U was £300-350 when it first launched. Didn't have too many people complaining then. XBone will provide more gaming value overall over its lifespan, and strategic moves like this prove how serious MS are about the gaming space.
