i guess not but i remember icycalms sniper fotage of Ibara when it was released.. i watched those films over and over.. in fact i still have some on my computer
anyways, mushi 2 so far seems like a hit..
the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..

As it starts to die, you blow off the skin from its face, knocking its eyes out and exposing the brain underneath. The mid-boss of the first level was a pteradactyl and looked pretty sharp. The second boss was an incredible sea monster with tons of animating tendrils and shit.
A huge skin peeling T-rex and gaint sea monster in a Cave game! That is going to rock!

Exactly my thoughts!

Seriously, dude. Not that ESPG2 isn't cool, but I really haven't been this excited for a Cave game since the first Mushi (i.e. (Ibara || Pinksweets || ESPG2) != EXCITEMENT).

Hmm...with the oddball variety of enemies in here it sounds almost like they could have made this an entirely new game...guess they just threw Reko in there to avoid having to start from scratch on absolutely everything, heh heh. I recognized the first stage's music as a remix (I think) of the corresponding music from the first Mushi...I wonder how the scoring works though, since the "button tapping" of the first is the largest thing that set it apart from other chaining systems. Instead of a single character with 3 shot "types" you get 2 chars with 2 apiece, so a bit more variety there, I'd suppose (and, it'd seem, wonder of wonders, the ability to select whichever you want, not dependent on which joystick you're using or the option menu! What'll they think of next? )...
I liked the first game, I look forward to hearing more about this one.
Here's some info I quickly translated from the 2ch site, sorta rough but this is the general idea:
You can choose 'normal' or 'abnormal' shot types for each character.
Normal has the formation options, while Abnormal gives you
the trace options, though the trace options are 'homing'.
It seems 'shot' (=A button) and 'fullauto' (=C button) are gone this time around, replaced by '(rapid?)shot' and 'lapier' respectively, just like the Galuda games have.
As for the maniac scoring system, basically
you collect the gold and this acts as a multiplier.
You hold (and tap??) shot to increase the hit counter (like
the first game!), but when an enemy is killed you
get the bonus gems multiplier along with the hit counter contributing to your score.
If you fill the gems gauge high enough, when you kill an enemy they release
blue gems for you to collect. No one knows
how these are different from the gold gems yet.
It's nice they integrated the gold gems into the scoring
system this time, as outside of Original mode in the first game they were of little
importance, acting as little more than a garnish.
You can collect the gems by going over them, though
if you let off the shot button, they automatically get sucked
in, a la Zero Gunner 2.
The music in the first stage is sort of a remixed version
of stage 1 in the original, while the third stage's music
has some similarities to the stage 5 music of the original.
Character pros and cons:
RECO: very fast, bomb is like the first game.
Normal shot is W-type, with formation options. (=C button, full auto?)
Normal Lapier shot is S-type, with the options fixed in the front (=A button?)
Abnormal shot is a different S-type with trace options
Abnormal lapier shot is a concentrated central shot with 'abnormal rabbit options', not sure
what this means really, I think it means they jump to an enemy and attack
from on top of them, like one of the special options in Battle Garegga does. Apparently
this is tricky to use as when they're locked onto an enemy it leaves Reco sorta
vulnerable, so you have to be careful. And apparently it makes it really
hard to keep a good chain, so it's useful more for those who want to
blast through the game, and not for scorers.
PALM: Seems optimized for Maniac mode play,
fast with a good amount of power. His bomb is
an expanding circular field, which is sorta
like Gain (from Battle Garegga)'s bomb with rapid fire. It really clears away the bullets
on the screen.
Normal shot: small napalm blasts with light arrows, options are straight.
Normal lapier shot: Dodonpachi B-L lazer and rapid lazer options. Seems
his shot is for offense, and his lapier shot is for defense.
Abnormal shot is a straight shot with the options in a light sphere formation.
Abnormal lapier shot is a 'thunder blaster', involving light torpedoes
blasted from the options in a fan formation. Shot sorta resembles Tateha's
shot (from Galuda 2).

The images are high res. If you are in Firefox, right-click each image and choose "view image" to see it unscaled. For any other browser, save them to your hard disk and view them from there.
Went back to HEY to give this game another try and I'm really happy about it. I wasn't a huge fan of the first, but I'm looking forward to this one's official release.
It's also incredibly popular. Raiden IV had a loke test of no more than one or two days and there wasn't much interest, but Mushi 2 had 5 days and a long line at all hours, with at least 20 people watching all the time. And I still didn't see anyone beat the stage 3 boss.
so long and tanks for all the spacefish unban shw <Megalixir> now that i know garegga is faggot central i can disregard it entirely

There's another one at the end of the month somewhere in Kanagawa. Not sure where you live. I wouldn't go there for any game, but I'm a bit of a bitch.
You should also keep your eyes peeled. Before the first Mushi's official release, they had a loke test for about a week at Taito Station in Shibuya. Hardly has a presence in shooting game circles. Nobody touched the damn thing. At least during the day on the weekend when I went.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
The system looks more like Ketsui than DDP2 gone even more wrong. If it is, then I'm liking it.
