The 100 yen I paid to play the arcade version of this dreck was too much and I want a refund.

Did this ever get any patches or is it still the way it was, and did anyone actually suffer this game long enough to get that silly counterstop? I hope someone got the counterstop because that would be funny.

I'm not sure if Red Art Games patched up the Switch, PS4 & PS5 ports of Sonic Wings Reunion -- it'd have to be a fellow shmupper whom has had previous intimate knowledge/experience with the Steam/JPN Switch port of SWU to say if it's been patched or not -- that is the pressing "million dollar" question waiting to be answered in this particular instance.

There is, however, a subtle clue on the Switch port of SWU's main title screen that says "Play Ver. 1.40" while the USA port says it's at "Version 1" (pertaining to the actual Switch game firmware version itself). If the JPN region Switch port of SWU is listed at "Play Ver. 1.40" or an earlier firmware revision, then it'd be very easy to verify/determine that if it has been updated or not.

Adding a "Very Hard" difficulty, oh boy! And "adjusted the balance for some characters," whatever that entails.

As for counterstop - no one yet, but if you look at the World Record listings (lol) on the shmups.wiki, one Hien player has gotten up to 10 pacifist bonuses.

In fact, Plasmo has even started to begrudgingly accept SWR replays for his thread on Strategy, which is now graced by the world record for Keaton!

However, DMC's Shmup News series' most recent edition contains far more entertaining replays!

So, I just got and played this game, and... You guys are being way too harsh with it. You people treat it like it's something the Angry Video Game Nerd would trash in one of his reviews. Though my only complaint is that the final boss is timed like in the other Aero Fighters games, and if you take too long to defeat it, it runs away and you get the bad ending. It's especially harder on the second loop when it vomits more bullets and lasers not seen in the first loop. Overall, this game was just a run-of-the-mill average shmup, not a masterpiece, but I played worse games than this.

I thought it was very bland, lacking in variety and the visuals were pretty awful. The whole look is dated and drab and the bullets can be hard to see. The final level looks terrible.

Either way, I still think Assault is the worst one to come out of this franchise.
